"This was our second time eating at the SF and enjoyed it greatly, with a small food issue. We loved the garden room, feeling like one is in a greenhouse. the wait staff was very attentive and did a great job.
the appetizers were the abalone bisque, roasted garlic and salinas salad, all excellent and super flavorful.
one entree was the special halibut and thermador shrimp, tasty but the butter was too heavy and the shrimp tasted a little pasty.
the petrale sole dish was great with chive risotto and vegetables. done perfectly.
almost a 5 for food."

"Poor service & lighting lets this noteworthy place down badly. We had to ask for water 3 times over a 15 minute period before it eventually arrived. The lighting is so low we could not read the menu's - we asked for a flashlight but they didn't have one. All of this detracted from the food which was good. We will not be going back!"

"I have been enjoying The Sardine Factory for all the forty-five years it has been in existence. I cannot recall a single visit on which I was even slightly disappointed. In my opinion, and I travel often and widely, this restaurant provides, by far, the most enjoyable dining experience ever - unequaled anywhere! Thank you - staff and owners!"

"Excellent food with fantastic food & service, the staff where so knowledgeable and helpfull in particular the wine waiter who recommended a fantastic Champagne for our anniversary meal

"I took my parents to the Sardine Factory for their 58th anniversary. Several people had recommended the restaurant to us.
Other than service that could have been a little more attentive, it was a perfect evening.

What was slightly disappointing was the service. We had to ask twice for some things we needed and the sever only appeared when delivering our food. I expect a server to ask at least once after serving a course if everything is fine. Our server did ask if we needed anything else after placing the main course in front of us. Thankfully the severs helper did a great job of keeping the. bread basket and water glasses filled."

"Perfect in everyway, food, service ambiance. We had a wonderful Birthday Celebration for my Daughters 30th! We couldn't ask for a better evening. Just Beautiful and the most enjoyable experience we had in a very long time.

"This was our first time at Sardine Factory. I knew the prices would be high and they certainly were (dinner for two including 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and 2 glasses of $12 wine was $130 plus tip).
The food was good, but not great.
This was not the best halibut I have had.
The service was excellent.
The ambiance was nice.
BTW, their corkage is $25, which I feel is too high.
There are better values in Monterey. I doubt we will be back."

"My wife and I dine at the Sardine Factory every time we visit Monterey. It never fails to provide an elegant and enjoyable dining experience. The service is first rate and the food is always very good, if not excellent. One of the best dishes we've ever had there is the Black & White Tuna. It is Ahi encrusted in black & white sesame seeds and lightly seared. It is only offered as an occasional special. We wish that it would become a permanent menu item. It is absolutely the best tuna dish I've ever eaten."

"This was our second visit to the Sardine Factory. The food and service was very good and the waiter even brought us a complimentary desert in honor of our Anniversary. The prices seemed a little steep this year for what we got. My husband had the steak and salmon combo for $49. I had the scampi and rigatoni. The rigatoni was sitting in a runny kind of alfredo sauce. I could have done better with Pasta Roni! Anyhow, we probably wont be in Monterey next year, but take your money with you since you will need it at this place!"

"We read the reviews and even though the interior is a time warp, we were optimistic. Wrong. Beginning with the signature artichoke soup, it had no flavor remotely resembling an artichoke. Heavy with sherry. In fact, everything seemed to have sherry added. We had 4 diners and 3 different entres. All bad. Only decent item was the bread. This place needs a complete makeover, decor and food. Oh, and it was very expensive. Luckily, we had a great dinner the following night at another restaurant in town."

"A place where my wife and I could actually have an intimate conversation. (My wife and I have been married for 27 years). Soft lighting, elegant surroundings and professional wait staff are genuinely friendly, but not imposing. I highly recommend a cup of either of their freshly made signature Artichoke and Abalone bisques, the 6oz filet and lobster tail platter with Salinas steamed spinach and mushroom risotto. We had a bottle of our favorite Soledad Hahn Vineyards Pinot. My wife and I committed to going back now for dinner, after Mass, at least once a month. My wife said this birthday dinner was her most "memorable' and she means it. I could not ask for more."

"I had dined at your restaurant many times (80,s and 90's) and had looked forward to my most recent visit however it was a let down because your food is not prepared as well as before. I had the pasta and shrimp and i rate it as marginal. My wife ordered the filet mignon and she was unable to e at it because of over salty seasoning. You have beautiful restaurant and a great reputation so please Become more mindful on the preparation. "The Sardine Factory has been one of the Monterey peninsula's top restaurants for many years and it is good. The restaurant itself is very pretty and the service is excellent. "We had seen the Sardine factory many times but never tried it. We ate in the conservatory room and it was beautiful. This definitely is a restaurant for special occasions. My husband had the sand dabs and I had the short ribs. I thought the short ribs were very tender, but the sauce was a little too spicy for me and it was all over the mashed potatoes as well. The sand dabs were good but not great. The artichoke bisque was wonderful and the Caesar salad was good too. I think we felt our expectations were higher than what we got for the prices that were charged. The service was very good as well."

"We chose this place for our special night because we had never been here and wanted an excellent dinner and romantic experience in dining. We were no disappointed from the moment we stepped into the restaurant. We were shown 2 options of seating, chose the Atrium for it's beauty (despite the noise of other diners!). Our experience was very consistent with previous visit/review.
Noticed this time that the house Cabernet Sauvignon is Leal Vinyards 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon: Rich plum, coffee and chocolate features; smooth with mellow tannins. Excellent with beef, lamb, duck and cheeses. I recommend it.
First time to have the calamari puffs...really good. Rack of lamb...medium rare with a paired lobster tail from Maine.
Our server, Freddy, was superb. We really had a great time."

"We love the Sardine Factory and frequent occasionally. We made reservations for Mother's Day Brunch at 1:45. We arrived 5 minutes late(I called to say we would be). We didn't get seated until 2:55pm. I had the Filet Mignon Benedict. Both of my eggs were hard and had very little bernaise sauce. Our waiter was Richard. He was very attentive. My dinner guests both ordered the prime rib. Very fatty, but what little meat there was, was tasty and tender."

"I was a bit disappointed with the food. I had the filet Mignon Benedict and my mom had the crab spinach omelet. The Benedict's eggs were over cooked but the filet was great and the omelet seemed to be under the light WAY TOO LONG. It was rubbery."

The 4 of us had the sole, the halibut special and the Thai scallops. The flavor of the scallop juice was divine, subtle, delicious. And the scallops were BIG, perfectly done. My friend raved about the halibut. My husband loved the sole. Everybody also savored the excellent wine, especially the Pinot Noir."

"We took a new work colleague and his wife here as a way to welcome them and get to know them. What a lovely evening! It was the nicest dining experience I have had in a long time. We don't go out for pleasure that often since I have a lot of business dinners. The Sardine Factory was an excellent choice. It is comfortable and at the same time world class. The food was wonderful and the serving staff have that knack for knowing when to approach the table. They always seemed to be there just when we needed them but did not seem at all intrusive to our conversation. The ambiance is very special out in the conservatory. It was perfect in every way! Thank you."

"We knew before hand that Sardine Factory is known for atmosphere and that food is below average. After avoiding it for more than 30 years, wife and I finally dined for our 40 year anniversary. We were right: it has a nice atmopshere but food is below average. I had the $75 wild abalone staak, and it was mediocre, tasted like cheap calamari steak, and wife's venison had no taste and petite lobster tail was petite, but tasty. Got a nice complimentary dessert for anniversary. Atmosphere and service were nice, though. But would not return as food is below average."

"The staff was very friendly, experienced and many have worked in the restaurant along time so they understand what the restaurant is all about and make the experience much more pleasing. Yes they have sardines on the hors d'oeuvre menu and they are excellent! The abalone bisque soup was excellent. We shared our entrées which were lobster stuffed ravioli and Alaskan halibut, both were excellent. The dessert menu was out of this world, although we didn't have room for dessert, next time we will save a little room!"
