Located in the heart of Tribeca. Renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent and Chef-Partner Paul Liebrandt have created an inviting and romantic ambiance in a 65-seat dining room that is light and intimate, with vaulted ceilings. Corton features a modern French menu where Chef Paul Liebrandt adds his own personal style to the greatly respected tradition of classical French cuisine. As Corton takes its name from the largest area of Grand Cru in Burgundy, the wine list will feature many selections from the Burgundy region. For dinner, Corton offers a three-course prix fixe menu for $85 and a tasting menu for $145.

"The chef is a madman, combining flavors and ingredients unexpectedly -- and generously: Each course is served with a variety of small accompanying dishes. And all of it is extraordinarily delicious. A winner. One of New York's best."

"This is the 6th or 7th time we've been to Corton and, for the second time in a row, we found it very disappointing. The service was slow, the food lukewarm at times and the attention to detail inconsistent. The funny thing is that they always think they're the best in the business, but if they sat on the other side of the table, I'm not sure they'd feel the same way. In a way, arrogance is seeping in and that's too bad. They're a much better place than that."

""Chef Liebrandt’s modern French menu melds the tradition of classical cuisine with a contemporary approach [...]. The flavors are clean, precise and intense." (The text is from Corton's site.) And while the plating & compositions at Corton were impeccably artful, the flavors disappointed. In this regard the most memorable components were a turnip gelee (one bite's worth) that accompanied my entree (a sadly chewy wild duckling), the duckling's crispy polenta side-dish, and a sumptuous pear sorbet & balsamic pre-dessert. Not a good sign when flavor highlights are this sporadic & stem from supporting players. It's like a tulip bed at a botanical garden that's chiefly memorable because of a few fantastic butterflies that happen to wander in."

"We try and go to a highly rated restaurant once a month or so. Sometime we are disappointed. But not this time. The food was excellent. From the appetizers through the dessert. (and the desserst were great.) We had the beef and the cod as entrees. Would recommend Corton without question. For dessert we had the brioche, great, and soemthing called clafoutis. It was excellent. Highly recommend it. really enjoyed the experience.."

"If you want to spend $200 per person for rude service, skip Corton and go to a club in Meatpacking. Foie gras, truffle, scallops, and FOAM in every dish doesn't assure you a tasty dish, just an overpriced meal. I'm all for sophisticated, experimental cooking, but this fails miserably and is coupled with very rude service. When you wait 45mins for your entree, it's no surprise Med rare steak turns into Med Well. Worst ever."

"The tasting menu at Corton is excellently prepared, as you'd expect for its recently earned 2 Michelin stars, however, my one issue with the menu is that it is hugely over-complicated. I'm a real foodie and very adventurous in the foods/ flavour combinations I enjoy but in some of the courses at Corton there are as many as ten different flavours in one dish. An interesting experiment but sometimes it results in sensory overload so you can't enjoy the overall dish. In comparison to Picholine (another French similar style restaurant with a similar atmosphere that I dined in a few months ago) I would say it's not as good. Picholine is a similar price for food but much cheaper on the wine pairing to go with it and in my view a much better menu."

"Given the previous reviews that critized both service (attitude and speed) and the food (too intellectual) we were sceptical how our visit would turn out. After our visit, I suspect that the negative reviews were written by people who don't understand the difference between haute cuisine and McDonalds. We were pleasantly surprised: the tasting menu was fantastic, innovative, tasteful, and high quality. Service was great - we never had to wait for more than 5 minutes to get our next dish. Highly recommended if you want great food and don't mind spending 300 dollars per person (which was worth every penny)."

"A near-perfect meal. Every dish, including the little items before and after the main courses, were exquisite and delicious. Most memorable for me were the "Flavors of Winter" appetizer and the lobster entree. It may be, however, that the chef shines most when working small, since my companions were somewhat less wowed by their entrees of fish in one piece than I by my entree of three (or was it four?) small portions of lobster, each prepared in an imaginatively different way. The service too was excellent."

"Food was absolutely marvellous. Surprising and refreshing - more so in looks than in taste, but the two Michelin stars are absolutely warranted. Timing was well done, cocktails are superb as well. Decor is outstanding too - the only point not worth 5 stars was the service. Professional, courteous, polite - nothing that was done wrong, but several other "starred" restaurants we've gone to made us feel a bit more at home than this one."

"All about sous-vide cooking. The tastes and presentations are slightly "out there" down the molecular gastronomy route, but the execution is quite good. If you don't like getting at least a little intellectual about your food, then this isn't the place for you. I personally enjoyed our tasting menu and found the price of both the food and the wines to be quite reasonable by high-end NY standards. Although the place is a little dreary, the service was very pleasant. Overall, I liked the restaurant's general lack of pretension which commonly accompanies this kind of food, but I found one thing very irritating: no photos of the food allowed... I payed for it and the Chef's need for control makes me wonder about his rationale."

"Corton is a fine eating experience but not fine dining at its best. The quality of the food is clear, and we respected the commitment to the concept and integrity of the execution. That being said, it's way too fussy and intellectual, and I rarely say this but the portions really are laughably small. This is food to contemplate, not savor. Some of the combinations were memorable, a few were questionable, and one or two were unpleasant. But the food dominates, sucking energy (and personality) out of the restaurant and interaction among fellow diners. Great service and wine. Glas we went, won't return."

"Not since 11 Madison Park have I been so wonderfully surprised by a restaurant. My main, the lobster prepared 3 ways, was memorable and playful; and the starter elevated seasonal vegetables to a artistic redefinition of how each should taste. Every other dish that came out of the kitchen was also inventive and fun. It channels perhaps what's best about Tribeca: low-key, relaxed and still extremely refined. One very un-Tribeca feature, though, was the price, which for food of this caliber is more than reasonable. I can't wait to return."

Even our server mentioned that he found the flavor of that dish to be "aggressive" when he saw that we hadn't eaten most of it. Other restaurants of this ilk, such as Ko or WD-50 are better choices for memorable food."

"The food is the star of this restaurant; though the decor and the service are great, there is something mismatched about the both of them. In terms of decor, it seems like it's missing something- warmth maybe? And the service, although high quality, feels a bit impersonal and a tad too uptight. I think the restaurant would do well in relaxing its staffs' attitudes- changing this won't affect the high quality of the food, which I believe is absolutely outstanding, and give the customer an overall better experience. Though the operation is slick, the person to person encounter need not lack warmth."
