Winds Café
Winds Café is located in the small, progressive town of Yellow Springs. Visitors enjoy independent and artisan shops, riding along the bike path, hiking in Glen Helen and John Bryan State Park, music or performing arts venues and independent art films at Little Art Theater. The food is European inspired with an American twist and uses as many local ingredients as Chef Kim can find. The menu and wines change monthly to reflect the seasons, and no, you cannot have tomato on your sandwich in February. Winds Café tries to find organic producers whose methods are humane, ethical and environmentally friendly. The restaurant is committed to keeping prices affordable and the quality of the food high; and is also committed to providing excellent, informed service in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. In a sprawling sea of chain restaurants, Winds offers food and wine that is accessible and adventurous providing gastronomic opportunities usually only found in larger cities.

"I love The Winds and have been there many times. I made reservations for Mother's day for a 11:30 brunch and took my parents. When we got there they were clearly overbooked. They open at 10:00 a.m. for brunch, and we met people who had been waiting almost an hour by the time we arrived at 11:30. Thankfully we got in after a 45 minute wait. My parents are in their late seventies, having to stand for that long waiting is challenging for me, I can't imagine what it was like for them. On the upside, the wait staff was great and so was the food."

"Normally our experience at Winds is great. Today was the exception. They had clearly overbooked parties and planned to use the outdoor cafe area for Mother's day. It's Ohio. No one should "count on" outside dining. We arrived early for our time and were told they were running an hour and a half behind schedule. Eventually we left because it became clear that they would be unable to seat us in any timely manner."

"We didn't mind waiting for a table - an error in over booking. We were so pleased to get a window table, always a treat. We ordered immediately from a lack luster brunch menu. it took one hour to receive our food. they forgot the alcohol in a cocktail and replaced it with one so strong it was hard to swallow, well, just never mind then! everyone ate less than one half of their meal. after sampling each others we were all in agreement the food just wasn't worth eating. no attractiveness and very little flavor."

"This place has always been a hidden gem for us, however, on Mothers Day they severly overbooked the restaurant and it ruined Mothers Day for us. To be fair, the only thing we could figure out was they were planning to use their outside patio and due to increment weather couldn't. However, they apparently had no plan to deal with it. It is an hour drive for to get to Yellow Springs from Columbus and our reservations were over an hour late. Then, it took almost an hour to get our food after we ordered, and that was for a limited Mothers Day brunch menu. It's unfortunate as we typically have a nice experience here. I doubt we will make the trip again.."

"The place was crowded and the energy was high. As always, the food was great (which accounts for the crowd and the energy), particularly the mushroom soup-of-the-day. Two of us had duck (two different entrees), both superb, one had short ribs perfectly done, and the most adventurous had baked ricotta, a kind of savory cheesecake, which was surprisingly good. Definitely a place for a special occasion, less so for an intimate conversation."

"We visit annually to celebrate my friend's birthday. it is a celebration just to drive to Yellow Springs and have lunch! We enjoyed being seated by the window for the first time! Our lunch was delicious - as always, the menu choices very interesting; the tea is wonderful - wishing we could have had dessert, but our visit to Yellow Springs is not complete unless we walk the 6 mile route to the Young Dairy and enjoy the ice cream. Thank you for making our annual birthday celebration a truly special occasion."

"Dinners are great, but do not go for brunch unless you are ready to wait. It has been years since I went to brunch and I have avoided it since it was always a marathon. So we decided to try it again, even though we there early 10 AM and the place was not even close to being filled, we put our orders in quickly we did not get out until after 12pm! The waiter was so embarrassed that he brought us extra biscuits and refill our tea at least 4 times. The food was good, but the wait was the issue and when leaving you could tell in the eyes of the people with reservation they were extremely irritated."

"We had a great experience at Winds Café. The food was superb. Our only complaint was that the bartender was far too slow. We ordered Bloody Maries to enjoy before our brunch. They didn't arrive until 10 minutes after our food was brought to the table. Our waiter apologized nicely, but apparently we weren't the only ones experiencing this."

"As parents of young children, we rarely seem to be able to get away for a nice evening out. Whenever we do, we are especially picky about the places we go. We can always depend on Winds for a relaxing dinner. The food is always superb. Everything is so fresh and flavorful. The service is incredible - so attentive without being hovering. They take the time to make sure we feel at home in their restaurant and give special attention to all the details. Their attention to detail carries over into everything they do. I can't wait for our next special date night!"

We've had better food at Winds than the three different items that we ordered. One of the dishes was "interesting" and even tasty but not great. The other two were ordinary. This was at Easter brunch, after 1:00 p.m.; perhaps the unsually large number of patrons and the lateness of the hour led to a diminishment in quality."

"We went for Easter brunch and it was great--food and atmosphere. This was my first time eating at The Winds and found the menu had customized classics as well as some unique items. All five of us tried something different -- all were excellent! We also shared two items from their bakery. The blueberry coffee cake with a cup of their black tea was outstanding, as was the cinnamon roll. Definitely worth it. I plan to do a hike and dine in YS soon so I can eat there again. Highly recommend it!"

"The food or selections from the menu were very good, however we later noticed that their were other menu selections printed up on various cards and sheets of paper that we would have been interested in ordering. It would be best to show everything you have on one menu. Our table was located near the kitchen entrance, and at least three times a server would exit the kitchen and yell...."coming through, watch your head"! This didn't make for much of a good experience, worrying about bumping into the server coming out of the kitchen.
We ordered a cheese plate that came with five select cheeses. The cheeses didn't taste good at all, the hard cheeses were very hard and the soft cheeses were not soft."

"Everything g was great - the food was fantastic, the wines were perfect and the service esp. on such a busy night was friendly and informative. Our server (Jamie?) was great, high energy and took care of us. Perfect meal, starting with the bread and olives, the mussels and Lima beans (could not stop dipping the bread into the smoky sauce), split the Caesar salad, and for entrees had the lamb and the duck quarter."

"We get to the area several times a year and get down to Yellow Springs to experience the specialness of Winds. They never disappoint - great drinks at the bar, reservation ready on time without rushing us or making us wait...the place is professionally run. Our late reso time meant that there were some highly prized menu items that were no longer available to us. Victims of Saturday night success, I suppose. Nonetheless, the food that made its way out of the kitchen lived up to our lofty expectations - duck, striped bass, lamb - all cooked perfectly as advertised. Wait staff is always accommodating, although our request for less wattage on the lighting was only resolved when one of our party unscrewed the bulb over over the table."

"Hello,
The Winds Cafe, I must say the location is wonderful. We arrived 10 minutes early for out reservation, No Problem! Our dinner for two table was ready and waiting. It was only a short time after being seated, our waiter arrived. Great Service! The evening began with whole grain breads, butter & a sampler of some great olives.. Now it's time for drinks. I had the house chard, it was fantastic.( 3 glasses fantastic). My date had 2 long island ice tea's, or should I say strong-island iced tea's. Next came dinner, I chose the "wild bass/coconut rice.. Best fish I've ever had. My girlfriend had the short ribs. I must say! We were both dissapointed with this dish. To much fat, no meat, and for some reason, it felt like a rush job!"

"Fantastic night at The Winds! It had a festive atmosphere as everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and running into friends. The food was fabulous. The scallops - wow - amazing. We enjoyed a few of the Small Plates too. I'm not sure if we could pick a favorite... the Mushrooms Cooked Like Escargot, the Baked Ricotta, and the Crispy Cod Strudel were all equally divine. Our waiter, JD, was the best. Knowledge of the wine list, understanding of the food, and friendly."

"Service has certainly gone down hill, since I dined here twice before over the past 3 years.
One hour for our table to receive their food, with little done by the manager.
All of us were extremely disappointed - they said that they were short one person in the kitchen.
I don't think I will return again."
