Located at the Mercer Hotel, Mercer Kitchen brings a chic, sophisticated vibe to the heart of SoHo. When Mercer Kitchen opened in 1998, it immediately became a destination for New Yorkers, celebrities, and tourists. Situated in the basement of a historic building constructed in the 1800s, the restaurant was designed by Christian Liaigre as a combination of industrial and classic modernism. Chef Jean-Georges’ American menu features market-driven, seasonal ingredients prepared in a simple yet elegant style, with favorites like the Tuna Spring Roll, Steamed Shrimp Salad, wood-fired pizzas, and classic Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake. There is an open kitchen, where guests can sit back and watch the show.
"Although we did not stay at the Mercer hotel this time we did not want to miss the opportunity of at least dining at the Mercer kitchen. The place is just wonderful for its atmosphere, stylishness and the friendliness of its staff. No doubt it is one of the best places in town if you are an adept of boutique type hotels."

"our waiter suggested we try the skate. We did. It was really mediocre and after one bite each we told him to take it away. Our kale salad was excellent, but eating only salad for dinner is not much fun. He brought us the bill, and lo and behold, he charged us for the skate. We paid the full bill but told folks at the door that we thought it was improper to have charged us."

"We went there to have dinner while in NYC. The Restaurant had been recommended by several friends and indeed it is a hot spot and we very much enjoyed it. Food is delicious and the venue very cozy."

"Mercer Kitchen was recommended by a friend during our visit to NYC. We went early and every seat was empty except one table. Of course, they wanted to sit us next to the hostess stand and when we said we would prefer another table, it was like we were asking for something special. After some grumbling , they set us at an ok table. After that, all was finned th Mel was good. Frustrating to make us feel not special just because we wanted a nice table. Maybe that's NYC"

"Went to Mercer Kitchen based on it's affiliation with Jean George, whom we associate with great food. This was not our experience. It was colored by the fact that we were in a dark ( Quiet?) corner, with a waiter who clearly did not care to check on us ( mad because we returned our wine?). We couldn't hear people at the other end of the table ( we were six). But mostly the food was just pretty good. Nothing at all like our experiences at ABC Kitchen!"

"Nice dining experience, the food is good, the atmosphere is fine, wasn't particularly impressed by our waiter ("that's my favorite dish", which is something they probably have to say to customers -as happens in a lot of places; who cares?). Did not have the "wow" experience as I had my first time here a couple of years ago."

"We love the food at Mercer Kitchen. Whatever you pick is great: Seafood, Pizza, Soup ... everything was delicious. And while the restaurant really is a great, warm and stylish place, we were placed at a corner-table behind a column that was simply way too dark. Maybe the restaurant thinks it is not important to see each other and the food ... we would have preferred to enjoy the food and see it ;-)"

"Usually LOVE the food here but this time... the Food has been better but still pretty good. Ambience is good although best in the afternoon when the light from the street comes in. Unless you want a cozy dark corner and don't want to be seen. The service was a bit lacking this time. Don't know if there was a shift change as it was early 5:30 reservation but we had to ask to order drinks."

"Went there while I was on vacation the food is fantastic, service was great except I didn't like how they served us one plate at a time and had to wait a couple minutes for each plate to come out separately, just wished they served us all at once , other than that it was a good experience."

"The food was good. It is just odd that we seemed to have a different server every time they came back to the table. The service was good, I just thought it was a weird way to run a restaurant."

"After coming here 2 years ago some things that did not seem like a big deal then really stood out this time. While the food was creative and was well cooked (minus the Halibut being dry) and flavorful the service was bad enough to make us never want to return. Very disappointing for a Jean-George restaurant. We have been to the majority of his restaurants in the city and like them all (besides a cold atmosphere at Perry Street). It was grossly understaffed and it showed from the onset. Took forever to get drinks from the bar (remember this from last time). Once the orders were finally put in the food would turn around quick. The kitchen has no control over timing. You have to do it yourself. Not worth the price paid with many other options."

"Located right in Soho. Food was generally good. Lamb was very fatty but other dishes were good. Good wine list. Funky ambience. Downside was that our group felt rushed the whole time. They brought the courses very quickly - entrees came almost straight after the entrees and they presented the dessert menu straight after entree and then came back 4 times in 10 minutes to get our dessert order.
Also gin and tonic had flat tonic and took a long time to replace. Second bottle of wine was poured without offering it be be tasted first.
Seemed the main objective was to turn over the table ASAP. Made dinner feel rushed. A pity because otherwise it was good."

"Overall, a very average experience. We didn't have huge expectations, going there more for the location / scene than the meal. But -- Service was rushed. Staff not particularly knowledgable. Wine ok. Squid way over-salted; unresponsive when I told them. Pork chop dry. And steak, for nearly $50, was just ok. We were out for our monthly date night and admittedly pretty disappointed. At least my wife and I enjoyed each other's company :)"

"Could have been romantic, but was very noisy, and we were crammed into a corner with zero space between tables. Once seated, they sat a party of three with huge shopping bags right next to us. We ordered a few appetizers to share, and all of the plates wouldn't fit on the tiny table. Outside of that, the food was good, we had the Seafood platter and beet salad to start, then a pizza and a chicken entree.....crust on the pizza was too fluffy and yeasty, I personally like a crispier crust, but not terrible. The fontina and truffle combination was good, but incredibly salty. Chicken entree okay, not a standout. Service was good, but slow. For the price, I'll likely try somewhere new next time. I will come back to go to the bar, though."

"From the moment we were greeted to the exit ,the attentive staff made each decision needed easy and intelligent. The downstairs dining could be dark yet the design opens the space. We went in post shopping for a light dinner and enjoyed each bite, and sip. The pizza with black truffle oil is sublime- the deft touch of cheese and greens gave it texture. The sea bass carpaccio melts in your mouth. We had an order of roasted vegetables; wonderfully prepared although a bit stingy in portion size. Our server assisted in wine selection , making the choices informed. She also knew each ingredient in each plate and was careful to listen to our preferences to match them to the menu. Any hour of the day this is a prized spot!"

"An excellent birthday dinner at Mercer Kitchen. Our waiter, Jose, helped us with recommendations and we were delighted with each and every choice. The black truffle pizza was amazing! We split the burger which came highly recommended and met every expectation and we also split the sea bass which was also wonderful. The wine and desserts were equally pleasing and the service was outstanding. Can't wait to return to Mercer Kitchen."

"Very vibrant place, but it was quite chilly. As it was quite cold outside, so a little warmer inside would have been nice. Food was excellent and our host very nice. Although it's a 'cool' place, our boys were very welcome."

"I love the food and atmosphere. Normally I wouldn't mind too much where I was seated. However, last Saturday I took a group of important guests (we are party of 5) to Mercer Kitchen, we were seated right in front of the stair case (downstairs), where the spot receives most traffic. I asked the staff if we could move to a better spot since those guests are from oversea and I like to give them a wonderful experience in Mercer Kitchen. The staff didn't make any effort, just replied me that this is the only table for 5 people. I was very disappointed with the type of service given in such restaurant."
