"A very cool restaurant in a cool location...The food was yummy, the portions reasonable, the price a little high. For three people - the lunch tab was $126. - no wine, but a full three-course meal with coffee, and "sodas" - which were yummy, too! I enjoyed it in spite of the pricetag."

"We were initially disappointed when the rolls came out and they were hard, not warmed, and the dipping oil wasn't particularly flavorful or seasoned at all. And the raspberry lychee Bellini is too sweet and tastes mildly like soap. But my entree was excellent - the salmon was perfectly cooked, the brussel sprouts were creatively shredded and the truffled mashed potatoes were out of this world!! And the valrhona chocolate cake was incredibly moist and flavorful perfection. The only other thing I would warn people about is that everything is generously salted. I like things on the salty side and this was towards my limit - and my friend who adds salt to EVERYTHING didn't need to here, so it will probably be too salty for some."

"We had a very good dining experience. Our lamp chops and pork chops were excellent and we had an excellent German dry Riesling by the glass. We've been on the hunt for a good dry riesling for a while, and usually they are at least semi-sweet. This one was smooth and very dry."

"While the food was excellent, the service professional and the decor chic....it was very loud and we felt a bit rushed. It was a Saturday night, so it was understandable that they needed to turn the tables, but still - as patrons, we shouldn't have felt rushed. We would dine here again - on a different night of the week."

"it was good, but too much people waiting at the bar...and we had to wait 1 hour for a table for 2 and with a reservation....we couldnt get to the bar because it was crowded and nobody came to ofer us a drink while waiting!!!!

"My husband and i went to the Mercer Kitchen for his birthday celebrations and had a wonderful evening. The resturant was beautiful, very well decorated and extremly trendy! Our meal was lovely, we had drinks at the bar before and rosemary popcorn! We really had a super evening and the waitress who was on her first shift was very helpful. Definatly one to recommend and we will go back when we visit New York in the future"

"The food was fantastic, classic Jean-Georges. I had the beets appetizer, tuna spring roll with soybean puree, and for my entree, the red snapper. All quite delicious and the flavors complimented each other beautifully. I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant-chic and very new york. The service was awful. There was no warmth from the server, sloppy with refilling the olive oil, pushed me to order wine when I refused politely twice, sloppy when marking my table with new silverware."

"Still too pretentious for their own good for a location that is in no way the newest or hottest of spots... service and reception staff need to understand its the image of the establishment not you personally that matters. Lovely location and food, shame about the staff... brings it down from "notable" to "not worthy". Many better locations a short walk away."

"Went for the Dartangnan festival and "wasn't allowed" to order a separate portion of fois gras even though it was part of the special menu? This incident is endemic to every experience I have at Mercer Kitchen-70% of the experience is great and the remaining 30% ruins the meal.

Mercer Kitchen is a wonderful neighborhood spot but the service and management never fail to disappoint. Why can't J-G get it together there? If only it could run with the precision of Nougatine."

"The NY strip was the best I have ever had. My wife and I had valentine's day dinner at the Mercer this past weekend and were wowed with the service. We sat near the waiters' prep station and still were not overwhelmed with any noise or activity. I dropped my fork on the floor and had another one on my table practically before it stopped clanging! GREAT service, attentive and non-intrusive. I wish I had the name of the waiter we had. VERY romantic atmosphere as well."

"IT'S THE MERC KITCHEN WHAT COULD GO WRONG.

MY ONLY DISAPPOINTMENT WAS THE FACT I WANTED TO HAVE A ROMANTIC VALENTINES BRUNCH ONLY TO FIND OUT WHEN I GOT THERE THAT THEY DECIDED TO SERVE DINNER ALL DAY.

WE STAYED ANYWAY AND HAD THE BURGERS WHICH WERE DELICIOUS. WHY DIDN'T THEY SAY THAT ON THE WEBSITE WHEN WE MADE THE RESERVATIONS...WE MIGHT HAVE GONE SOMEWHERE ELSE. AND WE WERE NOT THE ONLY ONES. WE SAW LOTS OF PEOPLE LEAVE BEFORE THEY EVEN SAT DOWN AT A TABLE. ONE FAMILY SAT RIGHT NEXT TO US AND WHEN THEY SAW THE DINNER MENU THEY GOT UP AND LEFT.

CAN'T VALENTINES BRUCH BE ROMANTIC TOO?"

"Almost excellent! We had a wonderful time, and were able to talk and enjoy the service, surroundings, and meal. Our table was perfect, which enhanced our experience. "The restaurant said that they were open to other dietary needs, so my husband and I were expecting a little bit more than just the grilled veggies they offer as a side dish. Granted, they expanded the size to be considerably more than just a side dish, but really? I think they can do much more than that. I had even called ahead to let them know we were coming (and make sure they they would be happy to accommodate us) and they had nothing beyond this side dish idea. It was a major disappointment. The only thing that saved it was the service. I definitely won't be going back, though."

"Mercer Kitchen was amazing! They were very patient with us as my friend and I were catching up and took a long time to decide what we wanted for dinner. The tuna pizza and the shrimp salad app were amazing, and I ordered the salmon and it was delish! The fruit dessert was AMAZING, I loved the sauce that it was in. The host, Pat, was extremely nice! I left my scarf at the restaurant, and he called me back when it was found! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, and it definitely lived up to all the buzz that I've heard about it!"

"I was actually a little underwhelmed. Seems like this place puts more stock in its looks than its dishes. My food was fantastic, but everything my friend ordered was sub par at best. yes to the shrimp avocado salad appetizer and salmon entree, no to tuna wasabi pizza (it just does not work, stop trying) and roasted chicken entrees-this entree looked like it came from a hospital cafeteria. chocolate cake was great, but the fruit dessert was terrible."

"My girlfriend and I went for Lunch before going to a movie. We never usually choose from the Restaurant week menu, but it sounded so good that we gave it a try. "Food was delicious! I had the butternut squash soup (best I've had) and the roast chicken- I don't know what they do to it, but it was great. "We went to Mercer Table for restaurant week and were very happy with the food that was offered. There were two selections for each appetizer, entree, and dessert (standard for restaurant week I guess) and my boyfriend ordered one set while I ordered the other choices. We tried everything and it was all delicious! The environment is cozy, candle lit exposed brick, but also very modern, stone foors and an industrial staircase.
Our server was attentive and kind, which as we know is not always expected in NYC restaurants! I was very happy about that. As we walked out we were already discussing when we would come back to try the regular menu."

"I've had better food on an airplane. Unseasoned, overcooked, open face plain burger with unsauteed onions and a sesame bun plucked from McDonalds. Weak, uninteresting and overpriced drinks. Salads swim in heavy dressing unfit for the ingredients. Fish was so salty and old tasting I sent it back. The replacement? Boring baked chicken breast next to mashed potatos and overcooked string beans. I think Lean Cuisine had a better version of this in 1990. Deserts were equally unimaginative and horribly done at that. Spicy, soggy fruit with two lady fingers on top? Please. The space was overcrowded with tables shoved any where they could fit (including facing brick walls near the coat room and hostess desk). Service was disinterested and poor."

"Seems to be a hotspot but the food was only ok, salmon very fishy, who wants ice cream with pepper flavor (eek) and the service quiet lame.
Also before being seated, the maitre' d let us wait for 30 minutes even though we had a reservation and THEN they led us to a table that had been unoccupied for the entire time. There were a lot of unoccupied seats but they let people wait at the bar forever. Makes me personally think they try to be hotter than they actually are.

Environment and design is nice but just another NY location. There is better places out there"

"Everything in Mercer Kitchen we set up beautifully, and it was very apparent that every detail of the restaurant. The service was very polite, professional, and warm. I only had two complaints. Every dish I received felt rushed. The chefs needed to pay more attention to the food. ever dish had either something missing, or undercooked. Once I notified my weightier, he was always very apologetic, and sent the dish back to be adjusted. I did not at all feel like I was inconveniencing/annoying anyone at all through my meal (a rare experience in the city). Also, as the meal progressed I noticed the rising temperature in the restaurant. It was sweltering. With more attention to detail, Mercer Kitchen could be a top restaurant in NYC"

"This place didn't live up to the hype. It was very crowded--maybe just because we went during tourist season--and the service was not great. Took me a while to a get a fork in the first place, and twice as long after I dropped it. The burgers are excellent, but the three-course prix-fixe is just OK. Good size portions, and good value for lunch especially, but this place is just more hip/much lower quality than other jean-georges establishments."

"We really enjoyed Mercer Kitchen. The restaurant is obviously not resting on their laurels. Service was excellent and not stuffy. It wasn't very crowded - a Monday night (MLK Day), so we didn't experience the restaurant under "stress". I had the Duck - fantastic. Really didn't expect that much on our plate either. Nice selection of wines by the glass. Cool and comfortable. Will go again."

"The dinning area in the basement was very loud and does not have too many round tables. Many were long raised tables which makes it hard to communicate with anyone more than two seats away from you. The food was good but the service was not up to expectations. We received bread but did not get any olive oil or butter until we requested for it. It's a small thing but I expected a little more from this restaurant."

"have been to mercer kitchen many times; was disappointed with the menu offering and overall quality/taste of the food. bread used to come out hot; not anymore. tuna spring rolls used to be light, crispy, and tasty, but they came out somewhat soggy and unappetizing. pizza was a joke; looked like I had ordered a kid's meal, and I actually prefer small portions. don't think i'll be back here anytime soon!"

"We dine out regularly when we visit Soho but this was our first trip to the Mercer Kitchen. The Internet hype created high expectations, and Mercer did not disappoint. This is what service is meant to be! Truly one of the most efficient and well-ordered waitstaffs we have seen. The food was nearly as good, from appetizers through to dessert. "My friend refered Mercer Kitchen to me and must say I and my party was not dissapointed in our first dinning experience at Mercer Kitchen.
The MD and staff where customer friendly,our reservation was on time which surprised me given that it was during the Holiday's. Ambiance truly reflects NYC life style, we also spoke to a few folks from Switzerland while on vaction and they loved the Mercer as well.

"When was the last time Jean-Georges looked in on this place. I have been a big fan of his since the Drake Hotel where he had LaFayette which, at the time, was the equal of the great French Michelin ***3 Stars. He should drop by and see how he likes Mercer Kitchen's Bar Mitzvah rubber chicken. We live a block away and go in for "just feed yourself" type dinners, often having chicken. It has become inedible... overdone to the point of "cottony" falling off the bones. Oh yes, the green beans, what to call them.. "super aldente" maybe no, just plain raw. Please, get some people in here who know how to cook."

"I had heard great things about Mercer Kitchen. The food was great and the atmosphere of the restaurant was awesome. However, the service was very disappointing. I made a reservation a few weeks in advance because we had friends in from out of town. When we checked in with the hostess we were first given a table that was right next to the hostess stand, in the middle of a main walkway and right in front of a server stand. I can understand if we were walk ins and were given that table but to have a reservation it was a slap in the face. We ended up waiting an hour for another table. I will not go back there and will not recommend it to anyone."

"I wasn't sure they received our reservation request for a booth when my party was seated near the entrance stairway. I spoke to the hostess and she explained that my request was received so I am not sure why they could not honor this since the restaurant was only at 10% capacity. They did try to find us alternate seating however they asked me to rearrange the furniture to accommodate guest they were expecting at the adjacent table who had not even arrived. Not sure they realized I was also a guess. We came to dine but halfway through our meal we were asked if they could clear our table. This occurred three times within about five minutes. I guess they thought we came for pizza on a paper plate..."

"We LOVED (The Mercer)Kitchen!!! I took 2 of my best friends there for dinner as their Christmas gift. We LOVED the food, especially the Butternut Soup, the Duck Breast/Duck Leg Confit, and the Brioche Pain Perdu!! The Spiced Apple Cider Champagne Cocktail was a wonderful start to our meal and put us in the Christmas spirit! The decor of the restaurant is gorgeous...beautiful uplighting, exposed brick walls...and we loved watching the footsteps of the Soho crowd above, as they passed over the glass-embedded sidwalk forming the restaurant ceiling! Our server, Geoff, was fantastic. Completely attentive and friendly, with a smile that could light up Manhattan!"

"The Host/MD that night was excellent. The event prior to my dinner reservation was cancelled due to the weather and the Host/MD was able to accommodate my party hours earlier than expected. Service was top notch all night, very attentive to our table despite the snafu. Tapas & fish were great, lamb chops were over cooked and lacked flavor, my grandfather was a butcher and always said meat should have great flavor on its own and should not require sauces to give the meat taste but rather to compliment it. The lamb chops needed a lot of sauce to create a desirable bite."

"Brought my boyfriend here for his birthday on Saturday night. When we got there we were told there was a small set back on reservations and we'd need to wait 10 minutes. 10 minutes was exactly how long we waited, we enjoyed a drink at the bar and took in the environment. Our table was perfect, the noise level was not as bad as people in reviews were saying. It was energetic, but it was very easy to hear your conversation. Loved the decor!! Food was outstanding. My only complaint is the wait staff isn't friendly. They got the job done, and were attentive but had zero personality. Nothing that would ruin our experience. Perfect night, and can't wait to go back!!"

"After dining at several Jean-Georges restaurants, I was really looking forward to our first time lunch here. What a major, major disappointment. I have never in my life tasted such salty food (and we are not salt-sensitive). The appetizers were very good, while a bit tepid. But the main course was so, so salty we had to send it back after one bite. The server was completely flustered and didn't bother to ask what we'd like as a substitution and in fact, let us sit unattended for 1/2 hour without even telling us what, if any, entree would be coming out as a replacement. We could tolerate a bad dish --stuff happens, but the staff's complete lack of attention was inexcusable. Will never return."

"Our dining experience on Thanksgiving was a pleasant one. The food was not as good as other restaurants on our visit to New York nor the menu as tempting. My friend had the turkey and she rated it as good, not as moist as she would have liked but the taste was good. The service was efficient and friendly despite it being a very busy evening and full restaurant. The ambience was good, perhaps more suitable for a romantic dinner than a girls night out as our view was obstructed and couldn't see much of what was going on.
We had been recommended the hotel's upstairs bar for a trendy environment and nice cocktails for afterwards. We found it too light, not a cosy place to sit at all with hardly any other customers so didn't stay."

"We had the Autumn promotion of a three-course meal for a fixed price. It was delicious! The shrimp salad was one of the best salads I've ever had.
