la Posta serves fresh, seasonal meals with authentic Italian style. Join us for dinner and select from our pan-Italian menu which features fresh, house-made pastas, brick-oven breads, pizzas, and salumi.
We strive to present meals that are farmed and harvested sustainably. Because we serve local and organic ingredients, depending upon the bounty of Santa Cruz' farming community, our menu changes frequently and features an wide array of specials. La Posta’s all-Italian wine list offers a baker’s dozen of wines by the glass or taste, the well informed list includes autochthonous varieties from artisan producers throughout Italy.
La Posta adheres to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch and is certified in the City of Santa Cruz Green Business Program.

"We revisited La Posta with high hopes after a fine experience several months ago. This time things were not so ideal. Many of the portions, especially on the opening courses, were really, really small and a little too "precious". Sure this is fine dining but what we liked before was a good blend of quality food, great preparation, reasonable portions and the ambience. I'm hoping this was a deviation but we're not rushing back after the last experience."

"We joined another couple for dinner at La Posta several nights ago, having been there only one previous time over a year ago, when the meal was OK but nothing more. This time the four of us had a much better experience. Two of us had appetizers as well as a pasta dish, two had pizzas and I had an outstanding halibut dish, perfectly prepared and very tasty. Service was excellent. We brought one bottle of very good wine and then had two small carafes of house red and white--both acceptable--and we shared a chocolate semifreddi dessert. While it can be very noisy there, we were lucky and could talk at normal levels. Will definitely return sooner than the last time!"

"We like to go on locals night, Tuesday, for the excellent music by the string duo (sometimes trio) that sets the tone for a wonderful meal of regional Italian food with a distinct local interpretation of great fresh ingredients in imaginative offerings by a gem of a shy chef! Everything comes together for the perfect Santa Cruz evening--and the wine selections are a bonus delight."

"After a referral from a friend, followed by booking an easy reservation at open table and arriving promptly at opening we were quickly ushered to our seats(myself and my wife) Drink orders taken, and delivered surprisingly quickly in spite the restaurant filling up. An absolutely great selection of imported wines, a great start to a delicious meal. For appetizers a delicious plate of warmed olives, followed by some Baked Bellwether Ricotta, the mixture of cheese, nuts, and kumquats were a perfect blend on the palate. For Entree I had the Veal and Polpette(sausages with potatoes, spring onions and watercress) never have eaten veal before, each bite of this dish offered exquisite texture and taste till the very end A must try establishment"

"If you want to experience Italian food with a quirky twist, and get a great deal at the same time, try La Posta on Tuesday Neighborhood night. In addition to getting a tasty pasta or pizza dish and a glass of wine at a reasonable price, there is also live music. This restaurant, housed in an old post office building, has paid attention to what customers want. Small plates, interesting and unusual combinations of foods prepared well and presented artistically. This is not a red vinyl tablecloth Italian cafe offering so much food that you have later regrets. Healthy offerings, elegantly prepared and served. Satisfy your urge to find a new, different kind of restaurant, located in a neighborhood, unusual offerings. Yum!"

"I have been to La Posta on a number of occasions and have always been impressed with the food. This continued to be true this time as well. The small plates and dessert were particularly superb. The main was good but not amazing - I think I might stick with their pizza next time which is always superb. We got the table we wanted (not always the case) so we were content to just hang out, eat, drink wine and enjoy our conversation without feeling overly rushed (we had dinner late but we did notice that we, as well as those before us, were given their bill with their dessert - a bit crass). But overall, on this and all previous occasions, we have enjoyed our experience at La Posta. Its pricey so a special occasion restaurant."

"We went to La Posta based on reviews that said it would be a good place for a special meal (it was my birthday). To sum up our experience, I think those reviewers confused "pretentious" with "good". The service was good, even if the server seemed a little condescending. We found the food to be nothing special, although the descriptions did include five or six or seven ingedients with fancy names. I had what seemed to be roasted chicken sitting on top of a pile of steamed/boiled chard or kale. Ehh. I'm sure the greens were good for me, though. Isn't kale a super food? My husband had pizza - and was unpleasantly surprised to find cooked kale as a topping. There are many excellent restaurants in Santa Cruz. We did not think this was one."

"First time at la Posta and we will definitely be back. There's a small menu so the choices are limited, but what is offered is outstanding. Fresh ingredients, beautifully prepared and well presented. Garginelli with pork, halibut and asparagus gratinata were all excellent. Wine list is nice, although a little pricey. Restaurant will be quite loud when full. Nice to have parking in the rear. You will not be disappointed."

"La Posta is a small neighborhood restaurant near the Santa Cruz harbor serving Italian cuisine and supported by a full bar and impressive Italian wine list. The restaurant has limited parking in back, but street parking is available. Seating capacity too is limited but they do take reservations and we found our table ready for us even though the house was full on a busy Friday night. Our waiter was prompt, courteous, helpful, and attentive, but not to excess. We found the food plentiful, fresh, and tasty. The recommended wine was excellent. Definitely on our list to return and a nice change of pace from some of Santa Cruz's more notable establishments."

"A bit too noisy for me on a Friday night but everyone seemed to be having a great time—a great place for being with friends. The menu seemed a bit limited to me with not enough vegetarian options. What is offered has very interesting pairings of ingredients and the care and presentation of the food was very good. They service was good, especially for how busy it was. Not a place to go if you would like a variety of pasta dishes, but instead a place to go for more gourmet offerings. Would not recommend to vegetarians, but that may have been the luck of the draw with the current menu. The wine list was very good."

"Eating at La Posta was a delight. It was San Francisco quality. Lovely inside. Service was very good except for a long wait to order. All servers were attentive and knowledgeable. The food was excellent, very fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The chicken saltimbocca was absolutely delicious. My friend says the meatballs were the best she's ever had. The bread... oh the bread. They make it in-house, and it is too die for. Perfect texture inside and out, and the flavor is unreal. I would go back just for the bread! The quality of the food was outstanding, and the menu choices were great. The only complaint was the dessert; the buckwheat cake was dry and needed a lot more sauce."

"Excellent by any standard! We were there on a Thurs night w our two kids (10 & 4). We tried a "tasting menu" of different starters/antipasti of our arrangement. "The food was delicious. The serving size was good. We had reservations and they were honored. We were seated in a private corner. The restaurant was about 10% full, yet a group of five was seated right next to the two of us and we could hear everything they said and we could not converse and hear each other. Why were they seated so close to us when the restaurant was hardly full. Our waitress was very nice and very helpful with the wine selection."

"This was our second visit there. The first visit was excellent--food, wine, and service. Because of Valentine's Day, this time there was a prix fixe menu--$65/person. In my opinion, the portions were really small. I had the halibut, which was excellent, but I doubt that it was even a 4 oz. portion. A little too skimpy for $65. Also, the wine was a pretty scant pour.
