"My husband and I went to this restaurant for the first time to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. It is tradition on our anniversary to order lobster, which we enjoy very much. So, I did order the lobster tail. When dinner arrived at our table, I received two SMALL lobster tails, equivalent to the size of shrimp. When I cut into the lobster, it was very hard to cut (with a knife) and very chewy! I was very disappointed. I must say that our waitress did offer to bring a new plate but I declined.
That being said, everything else that we ordered was delicious and our waitress was great -- very attentive.
I would go back but definitely not for the lobster tail!"

"I had the filet mignon, which was very good and was prepared to my liking. My husband had the fish special of the day (corvina) and it was over cooked. My friend ordered the rib eye steak and it was tough and over cooked. She had to send it back and order something else. Her husband ordered the scallops and they were great."

"Love this place for special occasions. I have to be frugal most of the time, being a single mom with two kids, but I make an exception for this place since the food is consistently well-prepared and the service is always pleasant and attentive. Mother's day brunch with my kids was just lovely. I usually come for the sea bass, which I have enjoyed probably 6 times here. Always perfect. Keep up the good work!"

"Atmosphere in the bar is high and energetic, but in the dining room it is quiet and allows for easy conversation. Food is very good, with an extensive wine list containing many Michigan wines."

"We took three generations to celebrate Mother's Day and had a wonderful meal. The service was friendly, very attentive and fun while still being very polite and professional. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed something different - - salmon, walleye, filet mignon, chicken, short ribs, scallops, etc. The grandparents and parents loved it, as well as the kids (teenagers)."

"Food was just OK but the service and our particular table were very good. We chose this restaurant due to a particular wine they had on their list and that aspect of our meal was fantastic. We were in a smaller room that was somewhat isolated from the main dining room; I can imagine that the ambiance in the main dining room is not quite as nice. All in all, and with the very notable exception of the wine list, the restaurant seems to be riding a reputation rather than offering new and interesting cuisine."

"I have been coming here for years and they are excellent each and every time. I don't think I have ever had a bad experience here...they are all good! We started off with the raw oysters (excellent), followed by Clam Chowder, then scallops for me and Rainbow Trout for my husband...all fresh and excellent. It was my birthday so the server said I could pick a dessert so I picked the Strawberry Charlotte which was...of course excellent. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive, food was wonderful and came perfectly timed. We left happy!"

"The service was okay but the Wedge salad was boring and the perch was full of white pepper. The chef did come out and apologize. This place is NOT up to par with being an Epicurean restaurant....."

"Good food. Solid. Salads were served on warmPlates so salads were warm and limp. Otherwiseno food complaints. Service was decent. She tendedto disappear at times and not every entre can be amazingand"my favorite". I had salmon. Boring grilled salmon andwas told I was a man after her heart. Just a little overthe top and then condescending. Just be yourself. Sheseemed nicebut overall a good solid meal"

"Northern Lakes has been my favorite restaurant for many years. However, our last two visits left a lot to be desired. Our most recent was Easter brunch. The price was $36.95 and a 19% gratuity was added, so almost $47 per with tip and tax. Besides ovecooked salmon and whitefish, the only other seafood items at this seafood restaurant were pieces of shrimp in a cocktail dish, which were wet and mushy and lox. None of their fabulous scalloped potatoes, and in their place flavorless mashed and what looked like frozen hash browns. The prime rib was good, but we expected great seafood which we have always had and were very, very disappointed. Expensive seafood restaurants need to provide great seafood."

"Mussels are worth the visit. Three retired gents re-group there now and again, and will return. Great service; very good frequent diner program. Delicious food. Wide-ranging and fairly-priced (for a good restaurant) wine list."

"Valentine's evening reservation. They gave us a romantic booth, had live entertainment and genuinely cared about our experience. They however made a series of small inconveniences, without apparent malice, that we would typically not expect from a $$$$ restaurant. We will dine again but sometime in the later future."

"We arrived for our 7:30 reservation and were told it would be a few minutes for our table. We weren't seated until after 8:00. In my opinion a restaurant shouldn't accept a reservation if they aren't going to honor it. We ordered the valentines special for 2 which was listed on the menu as "a 1 1/12 lobster tail" stuffed with crab and two 5 oz filets. What we got was the tail of a 1 1/2 lb lobster still attached to the full lobster shell and the stuffing in the body of the shell. The tail was probably 8 or 9 ozs total. It was far from what we expected. The service had moments of greatness punctuated by mediocrity. Overall, very disappointing experience."
