"We were a group of 8 people and we had a reservation for 8:30pm, although we were there at 7pm and hoping that we might be seated earlier. The place was unusually busy and although there were 2 tables that already paid, tbut neither was leavibg - hey stayed on and on to talk, as a result, the hostess didn't seat us until 9pm! The restaurant was very apologetic and treated us with free tequila shots and dessert. We were given great service, there were plenty if appetizers (pepper poppers, burratta) to hold us over before the dinner. Food is great as always."

"I have always enjoyed the food here and on my last 3 recent visits it was very good! Our tables have been great as well. The original chicken paillard is back! I had the kicken fried chicken with a kale slaw that is scrumptious! The Sunday special fish tacos are also very tasty. Our servers have all been very nice as well."

"We had a wonderful experience at Bungalow 44. The grilled snap pea appetizer was just perfectly done and a good pairing with champagne. My vegetarian entree--spring vegetables sauteed with Thai curry--was one of the best dishes I've had. We'll be back to find out what else this talented and meticulous kitchen staff can do."

"We had a very nice meal at Bungalow 44 and I'd be willing to try it again. The setting is nice, tables not too crowded together and moderately noisy. Our waiter was very nice but it was very difficult to understand what he was saying (an odd accent or speech impediment?). Our Brussels Sprout salad was delicious and the kitchen split it for us (since we were sharing it) which was very nice. Of our two entrees, the Chicken was very tasty and well prepared. However, the 2nd entree, the pork chop was a fatty and oddly boney cut of meat that was overcooked and difficult to eat (because of the bones)."

"Came here with my fiance after noticing the sign and lights while walking around the neighborhood the night before. The food was excellent (had steak tartar, pear salad, ahi tuna and rib eye, started with fries too, but should have skipped those, too much food!), our server, Davide, was great and attentive and we had great conversation with him. His recommendations were spot on. Had a perfect little table for two in the corner of a comfy leather booth where we could people watch! Would definitely recommend!"

"The service was excellent and always done politely even with special requests. The menu might not sound particularly 'healthy' but the food was prepared that way. We had the Artichoke fritters and they were not oily or overly breaded; pasta was fresh; even the hamburger was done perfectly. Oh, and you can get 'bread on request' - DO IT! It is the best bread I have ever had... Really..."

"We have been loyal fans of this restaurant, so we were surprised and disappointed with our recent experience there. It took a while for our server to greet us. When she did, she took our bar order; our cocktails and wine took over20 min to arrive. When we flagged her down (twice) to inquire, we got a quick apology with a muffled explanation.We were half way thru our starters when the drinks arrived, at which point my husband declined the wine since We would not have time to enjoy it in a leisurely way.We were then approached by another staff member ( who did not identify herself) apologizing and ready toget us what we wanted to drink which was awkward since she didn't appear to be offering to give us these drinks on the house."

"Our dinner at Bungalow 44 was very nice. We loved the parmesan truffle fries we had as an appetizer, and my roasted pear salad was nice. Service was a little slow to deliver our first drinks. I wished I had ordered the fried chicken, because I found myself envying my husband's dinner (I had the spinach ravioli, which was a little bland, even when drenched in the tomato sauce it was served with). Every time we go, we think we should eat here more often, because the food is good, and it is very convenient in the middle of Mill Valley. I wish we had been able to sit by the fireplace, or better yet, in the dining room, rather than in the indoor/outdoor room - although the heaters were on, we got seated along the exterior wall (drafty)."

"We've given Bungalow 44 a try several times, and every time we're near obnoxious, loud people. The food is decent, but what is it about this place that attracts all the patrons who are the rudest? We had an older woman leaning on our table, yelling about things like jock straps and rashes during dinner, and her daughter with her shrill voice yelling back, and boys with no manners. Every time it's something like this, so no more chances for Bungalow 44. We'll find a better date night restaurant that gives people a table in it's own separate space."

"Great restaurant, great location, great service, great food. Went for celebratory dinner...they were nice enough to give us choice of front room or quieter back. We opted for back...our waiter was very personable, patient and attentive. He waived our corkage fee. We were at our table for almost 4 hours and were not once rushed: to order, eat or leave. Usually I sit at the bar with a girlfriend and eat, drink and hang...

"A definite upgrade from the old Avenue Grill, but still a solid, reliable choice for a good, unpretentious meal. Little gem salads, ribeye and a pasta special were all nicely prepared and delicious. Beignet were excellent; hot, light and with superb sauces. Service was friendly, helpful and there when we needed it. Only weak spot is that the wine-by-the-glass program has deteriorated to the point that it is no longer a reason to go."

"The problem here is that I do not believe their exec chef can actually cook (he's done an excellent job butchering Cindy Pawlcyns menu at Buckeye while adding the amazing dish of...chicken wings). Salting reductions (for the short ribs)before they're reduced (the manager did comp dessert which was nice). Really? Putting your own spin on something is fine, but I wasn't quite sure what to make of the steak tartar served with slightly soggy brown mustard laden toast points - some of which also appeared to have a wee bit of cheese in them. Service was OK with most of the actual work being done with runners/bussers. Get a new chef or return it to a gas station."

"Grilled calamaries taste like boiled in water instead of grilled flavor, they are served on a bed of fennel and white beans that are too watery.
Caesar salad is a little strong on anchovies flavor.
Fried chicken and braised short ribs are flavorful.
Lobster spaghetti is dissapointing bland.
Steak and fries are good.
Beignets and butterscotch pudding are great"

"The food is great! The service was awesome! Would recommend and go back. I would just be aware that the noise level is intense and can be a bit of a headache. Not sure if this was the only time it happen, as this is my first time there. The music level was set to overpower everyones conversation. Which only made the tables speak louder. Which, given the size of the room, after 15 mins gave you a slight headache. It was also the choice of music playing. A Ke$ha remix came on, I looked around at the other tables and asked myself if Mill Valley was a big scene for club remixes of 20somethings that auto tune? Looking at the customer base, I would not have tagged them as such. We went somewhere else for dessert due to the noise level."

"I've lived in Marin for ages and had never been to Bungalow 44. Wow, I was really impressed. Lively, nice ambiance, great food. And not too casual. Nice to have a local spot for a nice dinner and get a bit dressed."

"There was absolutely *nothing* on the menu that didn't include cheese and/or cream. OK, the oysters on the half shell. The menu used to be more varied.
It's a great spot, the ambiance is nice, the people are nice. Just not the spot for me."

"Bungalow 44 has a tavern like ambiance with a packed bar and sports on the flat screen. The dining areas are comfortable with appropriate music played at a reasonable level for table conversations. We are not (yet) regulars here and went with the specials presented by our server. The specials apparently are the same each day of the week, and are written on a chalk board border running along the top of the wall. Friday features a filet or lobster spaghetti. Service was very good, and presentation was pleasing also. The filet, while perfectly prepared, was not a great cut. Maybe 3/4" thick and not well trimmed. I do appreciate that this is not a steak house, but I'll be sticking to tavern staples in the future. The burger looked good."

"Great place and we like going there. In this case, the service was not up to par. We asked for 1/2 of my wife's meal to go and the check. Waiting, waiting. Finally the check arrived, and we gave them a credit card. Waiting, waiting. When they finally returned with the bill, we signed and left. Only when we got home did we realize that they never brought us the food. Very frustrating."

"Ordered pappardelle with wild boar, it was mediocre. My friend had short ribs, and it tasted like it had the same sauce on it. You need more fish entrees on your menu. Sorry I've been to your restaurant many times before, and always had a good meal, but this time I was disappointed. I also asked the waiter for parm cheese, and it never came. Real let down. Sorry."

"This was really a memorable meal! The server was amazing: go Stephan!! He was available, understated and knew his menu and the wine list. His suggestions were everything he said they would be. The meat was tender, the wine was delicious and the beignets!! Wow...with a sauce Anglaise...so good. I will remember this meal for a long time and thoroughly enjoyed myself."

"My date and I came on a Saturday night. It was hopping! We asked to be seated in the back room so it was not so noisy. We were seated by a wall where there is a door, and it was very drafty and cold (despite the heat lamps above us). In warmer seasons it might be fine, but in winter, it's cold and drafty. We asked to be re-seated and they had nothing. For our trouble, they brought us two appetizers on the house: artichoke fritters and tuna carpaccio. The artichokes were good; the tuna was outstanding. And a very nice gesture! We also ordered steak tartare and Brussels sprouts. Both were good but the tartare portion was on the small side. Overall, it was the service that made an impression, and we will be going back for sure."

"We were in the room in the back and it wasn't noisy. It was so lovely. The front part of the restaurant is quite noisy but it fits with the vibrant scene. It's a great place."
