"For mother's day this was the most special place to be! We had a lovely lunch. Sorry to say, the word lovely doesn't work..really ...lunch was over the top. It was as the french say "exceptionnel" It will cost you a little more money,but well worth it.
If you want a lovely anniversary dinner or special birthday dinner ..this is the place. Do leave the little ones at home with the sitter, because they will not be welcomed by the couple who will have the pleasure of sitting next to you. You know what I mean...this a dinning experience! Enjoy! Will be back for husbands birthday, my birthday, father's day....etc..etc..."

"I had high expectations. I brought my family for mothers day and my sisters bday. I reminded them of the special day.
However, they seemed to have forgotten us most of the night. They were very slow. It took over 3 hours. We waited a long time between courses just sitting there. The food was okay. At the end of the night was had to go get the waiter to pay. We brought our credit cards to them. Sad. In addition, we left with no birthday celebration or a happy Mother's Day. I would never go back there and would recommend every stay away. So many better places to eat where they treat you well."

"I very much appreciated the Chef's inventive menu, although I felt that the presentation was better than the food itself (except the salmon). What really missed was the bread, which came to the table ice cold, as did the perfectly salted butter -- the bread should have been warm and the butter soft. Fortunately the cheese was not cold. We will certainly go again, but if it is not significantly better we will chose another restaurant for the money. Oh, one more thing -- the chateau experience put us a bit off as there seemed to be a hen party or two going on, and a lot of 20-something girls getting hammered just didn't seem to fit."

"This is a review of lunch. Dinner may be different for reasons noted.
The setting is nice--good view over a lawn, not of vineyards. We were indoors because of cool weather. There are two dining rooms, the upper one won't have a view. Decor is pretty corporate--nice use of wood. Tables are well spaced. Atmosphere is however quite formal for Napa Valley. Nothing special.

The quality of the food was high, and presentation on the plate was impressive. Prices are very high, though, for what is delivered. I'd say about $4 per item, maybe $5. A cavier service? In Napa? Silly
Service was indifferent."

"I am new to fine dining, though I went with someone who is very experienced. It was wonderful, definitely the best meal and dining experience I ever had. We had six courses with wine pairings, which were also delicious. I loved the variety of foods and ingredients that Chef Hoffman put together. Each bite was like an incredible treat, and I tried so many new foods and loved them all. Our servers were amazing and very cheerful, and I was happy they didn't mind answering my stupid questions, like "What are ramps?" (onions - who knew?) :) The Chandon winery is also a nice place to sit and chat. I was surprised at how many people were hanging out on the grass with their dogs, just enjoying the day."

"For a special occasion, this is the place. Elegant space, gracious and relaxed atmosphere -- you feel both pampered and warmly welcomed at the same time. Even when full, the dining room is quiet -- no need to shout over dinner. The service is gracious, polished and absolutely expert. The food -- my goodness. Creative, beautiful to the eye and extraordinary flavors. And high marks for a chef who didn't bat an eye at a vegetarian diner -- one of the best meals I can remember, and that's comparing to other famous "special occasion" establishments near and far. The wine list is remarkable for depth and breadth, and reasonable prices for some really great offerings.
Worth a special trip."

"Our dinner at Etoile was outstanding. We both thought it was as good as our experience at the French Laundry. We had the 6-course tasting menu with the wine pairings after starting off with a half dozen oysters on the half shell. All of the courses were outstanding in both presentation and preparation. The pairings were well matched, and we were allowed to make a substitution on one of the sparkling wines. Service was absolutely top notch. Expensive, but well worth the money."

"This is the third time we have eaten at this restaurant. It continues to offer an exquisite dining experience. We did not have our usual table with a view as we forgot to ask for one and they were so busy they could not accommodate. Our bad on that one. Still the experience was fantastic. We were too early in the year to eat outside on the patio, which offers an even better dining experience.
This restaurant never lets you down. For us it's a must when we visit Yountville."

"Please do yourself a favor and come here one night for dinner if you are in Napa Valley. Words cannot describe how wonderful this meal was. My boyfriend and I opted to go a la carte as opposed to the tasting menu since we had never been here and did not want to commit to the tasting menu if we weren't sure we would like it. What a foolish decision because every complimentary tasting item was outstanding. I had the lamb and he had the duck. Both were excellent! I also had the pear dessert which was fantastic. The service also very warm and welcoming. Overall, best meal I've ever had."

"We started with oysters and a glass of Chandon sparkling wine and it just kept getting better. My husband's steak was perfect. I tried the Umi (urchin) and they were delicious. The vegetable appetizer was over-the-top in presentation and taste. Each dish is explained when the server brings it. That's how extraordinary each dish is- it has to be explained! This was truly a special place. The service was friendly,informative and well-timed. No rushing, no pretension just quality, relaxed elegance and class. We'll be back."

"We have been to Domaine Chandon's restaurant, Etoile, numerous times over the years as a regular and traditional special event for us when we've been able to visit the Napa Valley during travels from the East Coast. It has always been very good but never better than during our most recent visit (March 2013). It's very expensive, particularly if one chooses one of the "tasting menus" with wine pairings, but (as a very special occasion) worth it."
