Solea Restaurant and Tapas Bar
Solea offers a warm Mediterranean atmosphere with its richly colored walls, mosaics and sparkling lamps. It is the perfect destination for a quick bar snack, an after work gathering or a celebratory dinner. Private spaces are available for formal sit-down dinners, casual buffets, or cocktail receptions for groups of 25-250 people. The menu includes over 40 tapas (Spanish appetizers and entrees. The bar offerings range from : traditional sangria, Latino cocktails, and wines from Spain, Portugal, Chile, and Argentina.

"Solea is a lovely tapas restaurant with an atmosphere that is both warm and elegant. The first time we ate at this restaurant was to celebrate my daughter's college graduation, and it was the perfect place for this special occasion. We recently returned when we were in the area on Mother's Day. The food and service are excellent. My only criticism would be that I have been to several other tapas restaurants with equally enjoyable menu selections at a fraction of the price. At $9 to $10 per item, the bill runs up quickly - the waitress suggested 2 to 3 selections per person (the plates are quite small) and we found that 2 per person was not enough. If you don't mind overpaying a bit - Solea is an excellent choice for a special dinner."

"I took my parents here for Mother's day, and both the service and food were excellent. There was heavy traffic on the way in, and my parents were 15 minutes late. The restaurant was not concerned and were completely accommodating, even on the holiday. We then spent nearly two hours eating, and we were never rushed. The food was fantastic - I will most definitely go back! Thank you!"

"So disappointed. Went to Sloea and was sat in the very back by the kitchen. There were several large parties close by with only one server in the whole area. Although she was doing her best she was obviously in over her head. We waited 10 minutes before she came over and ran buy us with plates stacked on her arms saying, "I'll be right with you..." She did not come back for 15 more minutes. We never got a drink or water. I went to the hostess and asked if we could be seated in a quieter area and explained that the waitress was too busy to serve us. She unapologetically told me it would not be any better at another table as there were only 3 wait staff on. Unacceptable. We left. Won't go back."

"While the food was very good, the server never once asked how we are doing, never came by, hardly talked to us.
What we really, really didn't like was the table we were given. We made reservations well ahead of that day, and when we arrived, we were taken to a awful table in the back of the restaurant. When I requested one of the empty tables next to the window, I couldn't have it. I find this attitude extremely disrespectful and disturbing."

"Always loved Solea. We used to live in Waltham when it opened and have since moved 40+ minutes away. We went back to celebrate my husbands birthday. ... now with children. There is no kids menu but my 8 year old liked the steak and some of the paella. My five year old enjoyed shrimp and bread. Us adults enjoyed everything from the almonds to the Sangria. We always liked the sausage with fig sauce which proved again to be a winner and the short rib (yum) tasted as if it was slow roasting all day. The paella I thought was underwhelming, but overall a very good experience. I guess it is different when you are bringing children along and going earlier in the evening on a Tuesday, lol. The bar area looks very trendy and colorful and welcoming!"

"It was restaurant week, so I was unable to get a reservation for my ideal time, but my date and I both chose the fixed price 4-course meal. It included a tiny "one bite" sandwich, soup or salad, 3 tapas plates and a dessert each. The small sandwich was really flavorful. The salad was pretty ordinary and I only ate a few bites. My date and I ordered 3 tapas dishes each... All different, and we shared. The bedt dish was the duck with berry sauce. We also got, baked goat cheese, calimari, mussels, and quail. The dessert choices wrre flan or an amazing chocolate cake. There was so much food, both of us became full midway through and he brought the mussels home. A nice night!"

"The food was great but the service was lacking. It was especially slow. It took at least 10 minutes to get a drink order in. The host seemed a little overwhelmed when my party arrived for our reservation and made us wait while the table was cleared (we were on time). "We've been to Solea several times and always enjoy our dinners. This Valentine's Day we decided to dine there again. Our Spanish entrees and several tapas plates were delicious. "This was our third visit but the food did not measured up this time. There has to be something wrong when I remember the side salad as being the best thing on the menu. The garlic shrimp were tiny, tough and chewy (think rubber), and swimming in garlic butter. THe sausage with fig was also disappointing. A split spicy sausage with a lone fig between. The sausage was dry and fairly tasteless except for the heat. The mushrooms did not have much flavor; and the calamari were blah. Chicken livers were ok. THe best dishes were the chicken thighs and the short rib. The deep fried cauliflower and broccoli were a hit, too. Sever was great. Fun atmosphere but a bit loud. I will think twice about going back-maybe it was just an off night."

"Our reservations were right on time. The table was partially blocking an aisle to fit us all which was slightly inconvenient, but overall not a big deal. The food was great, for the most part it came out on time. The server forgot a couple of dishes, but because we were sharing all the dishes it worked out fine to have it come out in rounds. A great place to try unique dishes with little risk because of the tapas style. It was a great atmosphere and a fun time. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody, and for any type of event."

"We were seated at a quiet table in the back of the room. The place was full within a half hour, lively and packed. Four of us had drinks and shared tapas. The artichokes were a favorite, after nibbling on Marconi almonds along with our cocktails. The braised short rib was delicious, counterbalanced by a cool and creamy avocado stuffed with crabmeat. The chicken livers were a little overlooked and tough but good flavor. Garlicky shrimp were juicy and fine if quite small. Our waiter was adequate, somewhat non- friendly and perfunctory , busy with so many other tables."

"Food is good, as ever - and the place feels nicely intimate without being cramped or dark. And the wait staff were attentive and friendly without being overly so.
But the front-desk service needs an overhaul: our booking was for 5:30 on Valentine's Day, and when we were running 10-15 minutes late because of traffic, we were courteous enough to call to tell the restaurant. But we received a very stiff response to the effect that they couldn't hold tables for long, so they'd see when we got there (which we did, in the 15 minutes we'd said we'd be late by). This kind of frosty response definitely discourages us from putting Solea on our list of go-to places in future."
