ALL FRENCH – NO ATTITUDE
Django is a comfortable, brasserie-style restaurant offering everything you love about French cuisine without the attitude. The restaurant features classic French dishes such as Steak Frites and Duck Cassoulet, as well as fresh salads and juicy hamburgers made with house-ground beef. At the heart of Django is the interactive chef station. Located in the center of the restaurant, this large bar offers patrons a place to order jet-fresh seafood such as oysters, shrimp, clams, mussels, and seafood plateaus, alongside cheese plates, cured meats, artisan bread and house-made desserts. Django is the latest venture of Centro Chef George Formaro, Paul Rottenberg of Orchestrate Hospitality Management, and Hotel Fort Des Moines owner, Jeff Hunter.

"We had a very good dining experience, despite having to make 4:45 pm reservation to even get a table. The food was delicious, the waiter didn't rush us through the meal at all, the service was the right mix of helpful without being overbearing. I wish they had a better selection of non-IPA tap beers. Very good dinner, we will be back again!"

"Son was there for French class and suggested he wanted to go again. So we went down for Brunch. Our first experience was wonderful for my husband and I. The food presentation was fantastic for all 3 dishes. We shared all 3 and must say each dish was superb! They each had their own great flavor. I know we will be back again. I would highly recommend trying the food you will not be disappointed."

"We came here on recommendations of a friend. Such good food. We had the mussels in blue cheese, calamari, lobster ravioli and sea scallops. All were outstanding. We were offered our decaf coffee french pressed, and it was delicious!
We were so satiated but couldn't resist the Chocolate Pot o creme, and the creme Brulee. Overall, the service - attentive, food was amazing. We went home feeling totally relaxed and satisfied! A charming and delightful discovery."

"Django is regarded as one of the best restaurants in Des Moines, so I was excited to visit here with my fiancee the other night. The overall experience was average at best. I wasn't impressed by the atmosphere, especially where we sat. We were placed in between two other couples not separated by much. It felt cramped and very unromantic. I didn't enjoy trying to have a nice dinner with my fiancee when I have two other couples within 2 feet of each side of me. I could hear everyone else's conversation but mine. The food was decent. I admittedly went conservative and got the mac and cheese w/ chicken and it wasn't good. Pricey and underwhelmed to the say the least. My fiancee loved her meal and the wine was great."

"I had the Beef Bourguignon, and it was amazing! She had the pork chops, and they looked delicious too. In the past I have tried a few other dishes, and there is not a bad one. The finest French cuisine in Des Moines. Our waitor was pretty good. He was very polite and fairly knowledgeable, but seemed pretty busy. Maybe he was just new."

"My mom and I had Sunday brunch at Django. We were seated quickly and the service was excellent. Both the mushroom crepes and benedict florentine were delicious! And very reasonably priced. We stuck to water and coffee, as the brunch cocktails were rather pricey. $9 for a mimosa? I was expecting the ambiance to be a little more...interesting? cozy? French? It just has your typical hotel lounge feel. We were there during the day, so maybe it's a little more cozy at night. But I would definitely recommend it on the food and service alone."

"I used to frequent Django restaurant and enjoyed it, however, the prices have doubled in the last few years. It used to be that a good entre was about $15 but now are $25-$30 for most items you would enjoy (other than a hamburger). Way too expensive for what you get. Too much competition in town to pay these outrageous prices."

"My husband and I live out of town, and we really enjoy going to Django's for a special occasion. We were excited about our upcoming dinner there last Friday night prior to a show at the Civic Center. When we arrived with our Open Table reservation, we were seated right away. The menu offered many good selections, and the chef made an adjustment to accommodate my husband's diet. Our choices were perfect, and we were not disappointed by one single bite! This is a warm, friendly, romantic spot for us that carries many great memories!"

"I love the food. A little disappointed that the menu "shrank" some but when I asked about the scallop/casserole dish, waitress said they would preapre it even though it isn't on the menu. I like bringing in a bottle of my own wine even though the wine list is good. This makes the dinner more affordable and that way we tend to linger in the bar afterwards for cocktails and coffee."

"Once again, an awesome meal and wonderful service. We were seated promptly in a table in a less noisy area (as I had requested online). Waitress was attentive and knowledgable. Food was the star-- Had a swordfish salad, which was a special. Perfectly prepared, mild tasting with a fresh tomato/ avocado salad alongside. Another in our party ordered the beef tips on gnocchi special--wonderfully rich and tender. Another friend ordered mussels--almost stooped to drinking the broth! Boy I wish they had restaurants like this in Chicago (ha ha!) All kidding aside, we live in Chicago and Django would hold its own here--but delightfully unpretentious. Bravo and keep up the good work!"

"I've eaten at Django many times, and it is one of my favorite restaurants in Des Moines, that I return to again and again. If you haven't tried beet salad, theirs will make you a fan. I order their french onion soup, mussels (especially in blue cheese sauce), their tuna steak (medium rare), and have enjoyed everything that I try on the diverse menu. The charcuterie is the best happy hour choice in town with baskets of warm rolls and butter. Charcuterie and a glass of red wine with friends at Django is the perfect way to end a day. The staff is knowledgable and accommodating. Oh, and I love the bottle of cool water on the table, without ice."

"We went for a late night dinner following DM symphony concert. Food was fabulous. Even my picky 11 year old was sneaking bites of my duck breast (but the menu was a bit intimidating for a kid and he ordered a "plain hamburger") Our waitress left something to be desired, not sure why wait service was so slow as they were not packed at 10:30pm. We had made a 10:15 reservation, which is exactly when we arrived and we were immediately seated. Although the service could have been better (never got water refilled), the food left nothing to be desired. It was lovely to be able to find a menu with fine dining options which the chef is actually able to pull off expertly. Not your typical Iowa restaurant; we will definitely be"

"This was out first to Django. We made reservations were seated almost immediately upon our arrival. We ordered the duck frites as an appetizer which came with 4 different dipping sauces. The frited were excellent. My wife ordered the Beef Bourguignon and I ordered the Duck Confit. The beef was tender and delicious while the duck was perfectly prepared and melt in your mouth delicious. Our server was attentive without smothering. We will return."

"Reservations easy on line, weeks in advance, visitng from out of state. Seated promptly, service excellent. As a couple dining out together, I would have prefered not to have a table of 5 men seated next to us. The beet salad was awesome-used feta instead of blue cheese. The ceasar salad was average, though they did have anchovies. I totally enjoyed the filet with fois gra and truffle- would have again and recommend it highly. The goat cheese ravioli appetizer was super delicious. The Lobster tempura was a little heavy on the batter, though the lobster was melt in the mouth perfect. Served with sauces -to heavy with smoke flavor, to strong mayonaise taste, the third was more delicate. Peach cobbler awesome."

"BYOB and it makes the meal reasonable!!! No Corkage. They really could take a few tables out in a few spots. Service can be slow so don't go wanting a quick meal"

"Was a bit disappointed. First time visit so our expectations might have been too high from reviews we had seen. Found the Calimari breading to be tasteless, the french onion soup was packed into a small cup and hard to eat. The tenderloin sandwich was overcooked and did not include the egg requested. The panini sandwich was overspiced and the tomato soup was overly rich and salty. When I asked for a rum punch you would have thought the waitress thought such a drink did not exist. All and all, I would not go back for another try."

"Django is a French styled restaurant with an emphasis on seafood. The focus on French styled seafood is a niche I haven't seen exploited, especially in Iowa. However, the oysters were excellent, and the scallops were cooked perfectly. Not to be missed are the onion rings with curry ketchup. Strikingly, the hamburgers are also worth checking out for lunch. My parisien sidecar was the perfect blend of sour, dry and savory. I can't quite give my overall rating a "very good" because of the prices. The food is very good, but its expensive."

"When you walk in the door, you're greated by a welcoming host staff. Seating is prompt, as long as you have a reservation. The tables are a little long which makes it hard to talk, especially over the rest of the noise in the restaurant. The food is wonderful, traditional french cuisine with a little american twist! No corkage fee makes it easy to enjoy your favorite wine and keep costs down if you're on a budget. Overall it was wonderful and I cant wait to go back with friends and family. This will be one of my favorite places to dine!"

"Good food but too loud. We Have been there twice in the conversation was so loud in the restaurant it was hard to talk to the other couple with us
We really enjoy eating there but likely will not return because it's too difficult to have a conversation
The entire restaurant is hard surfaces thus nothing for sound control
Contact an architect otoacoustic consultant it would be a big improvement to your restaurant"
