"I took my mom and family here for Mother's Day. The service was horrendous. One person would receive a meal and it would take an average of 5 to 10 minutes for the rest of the table to be served. The food was offensive. Neither my cousin nor I could stomach the french toast and barely touched it. The only meal that anyone liked was the lox and bagel which doesn't require any cooking. Our meal lasted almost 3 hours because of the bad service. No one ever came to check on us or apologize for the terrible service. We had to flag someone down when we needed a water re-fill and the check. If the food was good maybe I could put the service issues aside, but it wasn't. I felt terrible and guilty that I picked the restaurant."

"The location is beautiful of course (right on the beach), the interiors and vibe are fun and beachy and beautiful, and the staff were all really nice. But the service was extremely slow. It took us seriously 30 minutes to valet the car. 30 minutes! Our waiter was very friendly and charming, and I am sure he was doing the best he could, but the food was very slow."

"Sadly disappointed my kids took me for Mother's Day. My two little 7 year olds .And they first put us in a corner behind A wall where we had no view or sun . They charged us for drinks we did not get or order we could not get the dessert because the sundaes were melted and there was no more vanilla ice cream left! And my dessert a " chocolate lava cake" had no lava and was burnt ,yes I said burnt . At this point the service was so slow ( but our waiter was very nice and apologetic ) that I didn't care plus I knew that was nothing better in the pipeline. I will never go back!"

"Went to Brunch at the Sunset. We went there considering having a 25 anniversary/vow renewal there. Brunch took 2 1/2 hours & the place was not full. 15 minute wait between half of our group (only 6 people) getting their entre and the other half getting theirs. I asked the manager to expedite the last entre, he said it would be right out. Then the waiter brought the wrong meal. The "Lava" cake was frozen, creme brule was cold. Could not get a refill on the coffee without multiple requests. Dessert was 20 minutes between the first person's dessert and the last. This place is a disaster from top to bottom. On top of it all, brunch was $49.00 per person (children included). As I left I found out there was a kid's menu that was never offered."

"The location is perfectly situated on a private beach. Pomegranate Martini delicious. Tiramisu spot on. Three cheese Mac was bland with common unimpressive cheese selections, seafood risotto lacking in flavor, salmon disappointing and carrot cake boring enough to put one to sleep.
Based on the view alone, I would go back to try other menu items in hopes of a better dining experience."

"We eat here almost every month but this was our first weekend experience. Granted it was Mother's day weekend but the food was not even close to our usual expectations- bland, late to the table and getting anyone's attention for anything else was nearly impossible. We will be back though, as the food and the service are normally wonderful and the view is absolutely unbeatable! If you are looking for a trendy but crowded bar scene- this is the place to be in Malibu on a weekend. However, if you want a fine dining experience- choose a week day."

"We loved the view on the 2nd floor of this place. The staff was super-friendly, the atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing (saw many dolphins swimming by in the ocean). The burger was delicious, my wife had the eggs-Benedict. We just found out my wife was pregnant; very special place to go, will definitely come back for more!"

"I chose this spot for dinner with my girlfriend on our two year anniversary. Its amazing beach front location and nice pictures online made it seem like the perfect place. Little did i know, Thursday nights are band night at the bar, which ended up being very very loud and obnoxious. I was seeking a quiet, intimate, private setting and this was not the place for that. i would return, but not for a special occasion. the view is phenomenal though, fish tacos were good as well."

"A busy location, right on the beach. Valet parking was overwhelmed and slow on both ends. We had a 5:30 reservation on a Saturday, before seeing a play at 8. We just made it. Service was incredibly slow though the server was cordial. The dessert sorbet was melting by the time it came, and by this time we were ready to cancel it. The food was very good and well presented. Wine by the glass offerings were slim, not much choice available."

"When I lived in LA I frequented The Sunset often. It was my first thought of where to take my clients from NC while on a buisness trip to the area. It was my first time back to the restaurant in about 8 years. The service was great. The drinks were wonderful. The Ginger Martini was to die for. Atmosphere, amazing. The food on the other hand left a lot to be desired. The calamari was slimy. The main course was mediocre. Not what I was accustomed to from my previous experiences. I did not complain. I simply made note to only bring clients to the Sunset for drinks & ambiance. I will need to try Sunset alone on my next visit. It was not a great impression for my team. Please send these comments to The Sunset. Thank you."

"Girlfriend loved the clam chowder and salmon. Waiter seemed to be a bit overworked, with slow service at times. I was just enjoying the sunset though, so I didn't mind too much"

"Very disappointing. 1/2 hour wait after our reservation. Never saw the waiter after our order. We asked him for bread that never came - we had to flag down a buss boy. He never came with the check as we flagged down the check in girl. But things will never change because of all the constant beach traffic and great sunset."

"The food was quite good, but there were three issues that bothered me during our Valentine's dinner. First, we ordered lobster bisque, but the bread did not arrive until ten minutes after we had finished the bisque. Second, it took 20 minutes to get a refill on iced tea. Third, the sorbet between the soup and main entree tasted fine, but smelled like it had been stored in the same freezer as their fish. That being said, the entree and dessert were delicious. However, I was expecting exceptional service at $75 per person."

"We have been to The Sunset Room many times in the past and have had a nice romantic dinner. This particular night was by far THE WORST dining experience we have EVER had! We were seated at 7:05 and did not get our main course until 9:30, they forgot our drinks, our appetizer and our salad...there was an event going on downstairs and I believe the dining room was the least of their worries....
Will not chance it again...looking for a new Malibu restaurant...."

"We had a great experience having dinner there. The restaurant was right on the beach, parking was easy and the ambiance was that of easy elegance. The wait staff was very nice and genuine, food was good, we were totally at ease and had a great time."

"This more like 3.5 stars. The food was pretty good but not great. Also it was pretty expensive so I expected a bit more. Also when it gets crowded it gets pretty noisy and the service becomes spotty. We never recieved bread while waiting (for a while for our food) and it took nearly an hour for them to bring out a bottle of wine... But it was almost all forgiven with the beautiful view outside."

"Have had diner here many times, menu is limited and we really don't come here for the food. It is across the street from the beach and we enjoy watching the "sunset" from here. On this particular night, we had a reservation and the resturant was very crowded. They were clearly not prepared to handle the unexpected crowd. The hostess was seating those who walked in before those of us that had reservations. We were finally seated and the terrible service began.waiter had more tables he could handle. We ordered our food and all around us those who ordered after us received their food. We Started hearing table after table complain. The manager was no where to be found. food was not served correctly or timely. Only apologyWas "so sorry!""
