"Nice Matin, named after the largest daily newspaper in the South of France, gives the Upper West Side a splash of Provençal sunshine and a heady introduction to the cuisine of Nice, home of the pissaladière, pan bagnat and, if we are to believe the menu, a whopping big burger topped with comté cheese, smeared with aioli and served with a heap of rosemary-flecked fries. It's the best thing to happen to a hamburger since Daniel Boulud worked foie gras and short ribs into an all-beef patty. "Even though it was Mother's Day and the restaurant was totally packed, service was wonderful and the food was very good. All of us enjoyed what we ordered although the one "just ok" dish was the spring onion tart. I would go with any other appetizer. The taste and the size of it was not worth the cost at all. That was the only downside of the evening."

"The food here is always so good and so reasonably priced. The fish is just excellent, I had cod with artichokes and it was superb. If only it were a little less noisy, but I certainly wouldn't want its success to suffer, so guess I'm willing to put up with it. It is our go-to local restaurant..."

"We only had breakfast here, but we had a very busy schedule and being able to make a reservation for breakfast was very helpful. Staff is very nice, restaurant is bright, welcoming; many choices on the menu to suit everyone. Service was prompt and attentive."

"I walk past this restaurant all the time and had never been because I heard it was a little pricey. But we decided to take my mother there for her birthday. It was AMAZING! Yes...a little on the pricey side. But not terrible. And definitely more affordable if you don't order as many appetizers and glasses of wine as we did. I would definitely recommend!"

"With so many good restaurants now nearby, why is this place full? The decor is like a suburban diner, although the menu reads well, the execution is mediocre. The sole milanese had a tasty salad atop a bland heavy breadcrumb coated fillet. Hanger steak was tough. The beets in the tapas plate lacked sweetness. Yes, the prices are really reasonable, but there are lots of other spots similarly priced."

"I ordered "Chicken cooked under a brick" because the person dining at the next table had it, it looked great, and she highly recommended it. The dish I was served looked completely different that what was served at the next table. It tasted like a brick, not cooked under a brick. The restaurant did not charge me for the dish, but of course, it was too late to order something else. Highly unsatisfying experience, although the manager was very apologetic."

"I was very disappointed in the service here! Only the 2nd time here and what a difference in service. The lady (wish I got her name) took about 40 mins to take our food order and our meal was then an additional 30 mins. We had to ask several times for bread (used to get a basket of bread now they hand it to you) and when I asked for some water and lemon to wipe my hands from the mussels she did not understand water and lemon!!!! Last time we were here they gave it to me with the mussels. Such bad service I'm not sure that I or my friends will return."

"If you like wines and a solid menu, try Nice Matin. We liked it and they had a HUGE wine menu. Sommelier was easy to deal with; not snooty and he picked out a great pairing for us. I’m not much of a risotto guy… its usually too gloppy… but this was really light, yet rich at the same time. We did the Prix Fixe, but supplemented with their Stinky Cheese app and Tuna Tartare which was so fresh. Worth a visit. Not a dress-to-the-nine’s place either, so don’t be afraid to go after work. Kind of an upscale, but cozy place. Pricing on both the comestibles and libations was good."

"Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Nice Matin. The staff are friendly, welcoming and professional, with the level and timing of service impeccable. The menu combines interest with approachability. The food is wonderfully fresh. And the wine list is quite exceptional. Prices are entirely appropriate. Definitely a destination for wine lovers. This is an exceptionally well selected wine list, add to which the sommelier is a joy to work with. The ambiance is casual and lively, yet the noise level is moderate. I wish we lived closer, as this would definitely be our neighborhood haunt."

"Good bistro à la française. When it gets a little crowded in the evening, it's got an exciting buzz without losing any intimacy. The food is well-made brasserie standards, and the service is attentive and accommodating without being overbearing. My only gripe was that the waiter gave me a weird mix of change, which basically forced me to overtip him. I mean, I consider myself generous, but 30% for an undemanding, pre-show two-top? Come on, man."

"It was louder than I ever remember and that was a definite drawback. I had a hard time hearing my companion across a fairly small table. The food was great and the service was good but the noise was so excessive I would actually think twice about going back."

"This use to be one of my favorite places in the neighborhood, but the food has really been very disappointing in the last few visits, veering from flat and bland to over-salted. I am not ready to give up on this yet, but I no longer recommend this enthusiastically the way I use to!"
