The Castaway Restaurant and Banquet Center is located high in the Burbank hills overlooking De Bell Golf Course, with a breathtaking city view that is spectacular day or night. It is appropriately nicknamed “The Jewel on the Hill” and has been a landmark in the Burbank area for over 40 years.

"I enjoyed dining at Castaway with my girlfriend, who is now my fiance, after I took her there to get engaged. It came recommended by friends because of the food and the ambiance. I did enjoy the fact that there was a nice view from where we sat and that was almost perfect for the night. I am thinking of eating there again soon."

"Went to Castaways for brunch. The selection was fabulous except for the desserts. Seemed like they were store-bought and were nothing special. Everything else was good, even the lamb which is hard to find. The service was terrible. The waiters just stood at their stations and didn't offer to refill drinks. The servers were very rude. They practically threw the food at us. There was a 15% gratuity added to our bill which we didn't appreciate. 15% is too much for a buffet and especially for poor service. I had never been to this restaurant before but had heard about the magnificent views. We were a party of 10 and were placed in the back room where there is no view. It would have been nice to have been aware of that beforehand."

"This was my first and definatly not my last time to theis retaurant. My girlfriend and I went to celebrate our one year anniversity of being together. From the time we walked in the restaurant the service was wonderful. Once seated, our waiter, Winston, helped us choose among a few different items on the menu. We got our food pretty fast and my girlfriends dish was not that hot, so he immedialy took it back and brought it back nice and hot. I got the sirloin steak and it was magnificant. What a wonderful experiance there, which was recommended by a co-worker."

"I went to Castaway with a friend to try their sunset dinner. I started with the clam chowder, it's average with small cracker. Then for my entree, I ordered chicken scaloppine. The chicken was overcooked and has no taste to it. The mashed potato and the side veggie were better than the chicken. The desert tiramisu with raspberry sauce was great. "When I made my reservation online I have specifically requested table by the window and asked to be notified (by phone or email) if this request can't be fullfilled, so that I would look for another venue. "Castaway was terrible, just outright terrible. We each had a caesar salad, steak and glass of wine. The caesar looked like someone hacked up some iceberg and through some dressing and croutons at it. It was only five bucks but my five year old could do better. The filet was ok but for 30$ I expected something better than ok. The prime rib was a chunk of fat that needed to be sent back. Their second try at prime rib was a nice cut but it was over cocked and dried out completely. The wine was good. Our waitress looked confused every time she came to our table. we ended up sharing a steak knife for half the meal because the waitress and busboys could not remember to bring us a second one. We asked three different people four times."

"The food was good, but we were very dissapointed with their service. We made a reservation a week prior to the Valentine's day. We arrived right on time, and we had to wait for 40 minutes. Why to make a reservation? The hostess was very rude. This restaurant totally lacks hospitality. They did not apologize for the delay, did not offer us drinks. We were about to leave the restaurant, since we could not get the straight answer how much longer we were supposed to wait. I doubt whether we will come back, even though we were enchanted by the beautiful, scenic views."

"Ordered Filet Mignon and cooked liked it was beef jerky. Server was nice enough to replace it. I got the replacement cooked right but was near tasteless. "The food and dining ambience were great...the problem was a bit with the service...the hostess was arrogant when we asked her about our reservation for a window table, and the fact that it was almost 5:30 and we had not been seated (our reservation was for 5:00 pm; she curtly replied that she had over "a thousand reservations" and that window tables were not guaranteed...she could sit us now or we could wait..we calmly chose to wait...when we were finally seated, all the window tables were empty...go figure...not a very hospitable individual who certainly detracted from the dining experience..."

"We wanted to take my son and daughter in law to a special Sunday brunch. When reviewing what was available in the Burbank area, "Castaway" fit very nicely. Food choice a plenty, quality high, reasonable price, wonderful view. The staff were friendly and efficient. I liked the valet parking which was very well organized along with everything else. The only possible down side is how busy the Sunday Brunch could get, but this was just an indication of how good the event was, and would never deter a return visit for us. We live outside of the USA, and when visiting we like to take family to a place in their own back yard they are not aware of that will surprise/delight. We are looking forward to visiting again to try the evening dinner menu."

"We had a drink at the bar while waiting for a window seat with a spectacular view of Burbank. The service was excellent. After the meal we went to the patio and sat around one of several fire pits and then ordered desert while again enjoying the view (servers suggestion). The food was excellent. From the bread before the meal, salad, steak and shrimp to the cheese cake desert. This was not a cheap night out and was well worth the money. The food was top chef quality and was also presented that way.
I wanted something special for my wife and she was impressed. She loved it!
The Castaway also hosts weddings and has valet parking."

"I highly recommend the Castaway in Burbank, whether for a large group or an intimate table for two. Great atmosphere and service, adundant food choices during their Sunday Brunch. The Osso Bucca was exquisite and the lamb melt-in-your mouth delicious.
We've gone to their Van Nuys restaurant, the 94th Aero Squadron, which pales in comparison with their lousy service and moldy desserts.
The Castaway on the other hand is great, we will definitely go back!!"

"WE truly enjoyed our New Year's evening with our family. Where we sat was kinda loud due to the walkway. We sat right off the main asleway where everyone walked in and the waiters walked thru and they all seemed to walk so hard that you could hear it on the floor, even though it was carpeted. It sounded as though they were walking on wooden planks. Maybe a little more consideration and walk a little more softer in that area as there were other diners, as well. However, it was a great evening other then that. The food was great, the scenery was great and so was the overall atmosphere. "GREAT place for dinner and drinks. The Sea Bass was the BEST I have ever had. My husband said the Filet Mignon was delicious. We had 4 people in our party and we ALL loved it! My husband and I had not been to the Castaways for a couple of years because of a disappointing experience. I am so glad our friends wanted to meet here for dinner. Our server was excellent,he told us all about Sunday Brunch and we can't wait to go. We were having such a great time we decided to have after dinner drinks on the patio. What a beautiful view!! Everything was perfect. Keep up the great job!! The Castaways is our new faviorite place!"

"We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary with a quiet dinner at sunset time. The sunset view was astonishing. We were seated at a view window overlooking the city lights. The service was good, with friendly, prompt waitresses (actually two were at our service). The food was well prepared and tasty. They went our of their way to accommodate us, being vegetarian. For vegetarians the menu only has one choice, but they worked with us to please us. The atmosphere was excellent, romantic and friendly. The dessert was impressively presented, artistically decorated and superb. Don't pass the opportunity to impress your loved one for a special occasion. And do take your camera! Waitress and patrons volunteered to make our occasion memorable"

"I was sadly disappointed with the Castaway. We went there for my son's 25th birthday and the service has definitely dropped off. The location is as beautiful as ever, but the appetizers were barely warm, refills on drinks were slow, slower, slowest. The entres were good, but pricy for the amount of food. It will no longer be on the head of our list when we're looking for fine dining in the area."

"Went to celebrate my husband's birthday. The best thing about the restaurant is the view...and that is all I can say about that. Waiter never brought us bread. After our appetizers came out, we stopped a bus boy to ask if bread was even served, and he happily brought us some fresh bread. Coconut shrimp my husband gives a D-, I give the Ceasar Salad a D. He ordered the Halibut w/stuffed lobster ravioli, halibut was ok and the ravilio was ok once we added salt and pepper . I ordered the Jack Daniels Filet Mignon, which was a decent C, but the scalloped potatoes were desperately lacking flavor, cheese and any taste. Forget dessert, our waiter forgot to come back and ask us what we wanted. I had to go find him to pay our bill. Understaffed"

"We went to the Castaway for New Year's Eve and had a wonderful time! Although booking through Open Table seemingly assuming there'd be no problem, the restaurant did not have our reservation. All worked out as there was room, but if not, we'd have been in big trouble. The food at the buffet was very good, and the service worthy of 6 stars if I do say so. They had a great DJ, and it was a lot of fun!"

"We followed instructions noting in Special Instructions for Maitre'd that we were there for the Sunset Dinner Special. However, we didn't get the Sunset Dinner special menu, and were seated in the back of the restaurant as far from the windows as you could get. I asked for the sunset dinner menu and the waiter verbally told us of the 5 or 6 dinner specials, which he had to repeat a couple of times. I didn't realize there was a written special menu until I saw another table given them. I asked to be seated by the window, there were several tables open and was told they were first come first served. Obviously we had a reservation and were there before they were, but were not allowed to have a table by the window.DISAPPOINTING"

"Food was fabulous and the view is breathtaking as always. Service was wonderful and attentive. We could have done without the children allowed to run around and be disruptive, especially on the patio. It would be great if there was a section on the patio which kept the smokers and children on one side of the patio. We wanted to relax but as empty as the patio was, people chose to come up to the table right next to us and either smoke or allow their children to run around jumping over planters and play hide and go seek."

"We were extremely disappointed in the Christmas dinner buffet at Castaway. We waited an hour despite our 2:30pm reservation. The place was so over-crowded that you couldn't even stand in the lobby, which also served as the dessert station of the buffet. There was a wait for clean plates, coffee cups, etc. The variety of food was poor and was not replenished often enough, and the dessert buffet was picked over and forlorn, not that could you get to it easily since the lobby was filled with patrons awaiting tables. All signs that they are grossly mismanaged. No one was happy. Not a pleasant Christmas experience. The quality has so degraded since our last visit that we will not return. Pity. It used to be our favorite."

"I'm glad that Castaways is open for Christmas for Brunch/Dinner. The only thing is that there's a lot of people, which made it chaotic. Our server was running around all over and didn't visit the table as much. The food was phenomenal, especially the desserts. The only complaint I had is that many times, the dishes on the floor is either running empty or not tended to. Overall, the atmosphere was great and at least my family and friends enjoyed it. That's what counts the most. I would go back for Christmas dinner again."

"I dined at the Castaway with 3 friends for Christmas brunch, which lasted FOUR HOURS. Because the service was slow? No, our waiter was very attentive and prompt. Because we had to wait for food? No. Then why? Because there were so many delicious food stations (made to order omelets, bananas foster, sushi bar, coffee bar, seafood bar, salad bar, dessert ROOM and more) that we ended up taking several trips and stuffing our gullets well beyond capacity. The champagne and Christmas cheer was free flowing, right down to the waitress with Rudolph antlers. I highly recommend The Castaway for any holiday dinner, although I recommend showing some restraint in the face of the massive array of food so you don't have to leave with pants unbuttoned!"

"The service was terrible on Christmas day. We waited almost an hour to be seated with a reservation. We requested a window table and were seated in a back room with no view ( the whole reason to go to the Castaways is the view) The young girls at the check in were rude and didn't seem to care that we and a lot of others had to wait so long to be seated. They have you wait in the lobby where they have the dessert buffet set up so it is very crowded and uncomfortable. Once we were seated the food was actually good and considering it was so crowded they did a pretty good job refilling the buffet. The waiter hardly came to the table to refill drinks but he probably had too many tables to take care of."

"It was the worst experience ever. I understand that it was Christmas Eve and no one wants to work. I also understand that most waiters/waitresses underestimate 'college couples', but I think not even saying "hello" while the 3 tables that arritved after us got their drinks and their orders taken is absolutely horrible. We waited for 30 minutes after we were seated until I got way too upset and walked out crying. I don't even know who our waiter was. I'm sure it is a wonderful restaurant, but I know for a fact I will NEVER go back there."

"when we drove in we were the first car for Valet service. The fellow said to drive to the back and self park. Well we did not know the self park was down in the back. There were two that were handicaped ( with tag). We were not happy that we had to climb from the back parking lot to get to the restaurant. There were 3 handicapped places right in front. we tried to be accomodating but did not know self park was down a steep hill. We were not accomodated on Castaways part."

"We went for Sunday brunch, and the food and variety of food were wonderful. For the price, it was the best brunch I think I have had. The champagne glass was never empty for long and the quality of the food was great. I haven't seen too many brunches that serve prime rib, turkey, ham and leg of lamb. The taste of many of the entrees was bad, and in the 2 hours we were there, we noticed that several items had not been changed out for fresh items. Many stale items - the taste was awful. I can't tell you how disappointed we were. It fell far below our expectations."

"This restaurant has been the dining experience of my year. I have had some great food including brunch this year in Vegas and the Castaway was worth the trip. I saw it on Food Channel's All you can eat paradise on which it made 3rd from the top and I have been trying to make time to go. We went for my dad's 50th birthday and everyone was satisfied and more. The price is well worth it. Every single item is delicious and different than just the average taste. Everything was excellent but since I love chocolate I have to mention the chocolate fountain and the available items to dip in it. Amazing and the rice crispy in chocolate was the best. Only thing is since they open at 9:30 I think they should make the early bird special until 10:30."

"I went to Castaway for Sunday brunch with two friends. Our reservation was for 11:00 a.m. We were seated immediately at a window table. The day was cloudy, with impending rain but the view was still great. The food was varied and very good. One of our party is a vegetarian and she had no problem finding a selection of foods to try. The only complaint was the "cheese enchiladas" were actually filled with meat. Our waitress was friendly and the service was great (i.e. the champagne glasses were never empty). The highlight was we sat at our table for 4 hours, ate and sipped champagne with no pressure to leave. I will definitely go back to Castaway."

"I went to Castaway for my birthday this year and really enjoyed it a lot. The food was really good and the drinks were very affordable. The food isn't overpriced and the view is so amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You should go for the view alone! You look out over Burbank and all of LA, so awesome. The only criticism I have is the decor is really tacky, its like sailboat stuff and it really needs to be updated to look more modern. Also the music was pretty bad too, but overall a great experience!"

"I understand that Thanksgiving is a special occasion however in my opinion you were not ready for all the reservations booked. It was just crazy and because of that, I felt that some employees were kind of rude. The girls at the reception were just unbelievable....their faces, their gestures and the way they were telling us abour the waiting time to get a table. Since the restaurant speaks for itself (the quality of the food and the place itself) things were okay but not as good as it could have been. I also would like to outstand that the employees that were behind the buffet serving and preparing things, were very nice :)"

"For the amount I paid I would expect that the top sirloin steak ordered was cooked to order, I wanted it to be medium well, and was given medium + blood, come on guys! "We had to wait about 30 minutes even though we had reservations but it was Thanksgiving Day so I supposed that is to be expected. The buffet was incredible. Anyone could find something to fill them up and the dessert bar was filled with so many yummy things we had to go back more than once! "There were too many people. We arrived at the time we made reservation, but we had to wait almost an hour. They gave us a table that was located very crowded aisle, even though we made reservation for window seat. The table area was so dark, so we asked our server ro move our seat. She was willing to do that, because there were several other tables we can move. However, the manager told that we have to wait again if we want to have another table!!!! what a surprise !! It was nonsense to me. At that moment, I wanted to get out the restaurant, but I stayed beacause my husband asked me to stay. That night was very unpleasant for both of us, and we are not going to go again. It was so unpleasant and bad experience Thanksgiving night I ever had."

"If not for the spectacular view of downtown LA and the valley, I would never ever go back to this restaurant. Our server knew nothing about wines and proceeded to pour our glasses up to the brim, as if we were drinking coffee. Most of the specials they had were not available so we had to reorder. The wait was long considering there were hardly anyone there that night. And the wait was not at all worth it for the food they brought out: the fried calamari were mostly tentacles, the steak was mediocre, and the pasta was worse than what they serve at The Olive Garden for half the price! The dining experience we had here was plain awful. Thank goodness for the view; it made up just a little bit for the dinner fiasco."

"The overall experience was great! We enjoyed the view, the food, and the ambiance. There was some mix up with our reservations...they were noted on the restaurant's schedule at 4:45 but we had made our reservation via Open Table at 5:30pm. "A business partner and myself decided to give the Castaway a shot after we heard all the hype from a friend whom dined earlier in the month, and we were not dissapointed. The view is one of a kind, there is no doubt about that, the food was deliciously up to standards, and the service was wonderful. We even had the manager stop by our table and chatted a bit about the place. "It was just an "okay" evening. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and hoping for a quiet, romantic dinner. Unfortunately the two businessmen at the table behind us were discussing their office politics, mostly in four-letter words, and we begrudgingly learned more about their secretaries and administrative staff than we would have liked. They left about half way through our meal. The service was mediocre, albeit pleasant. The view is lovely from the patio; we would go back again for appetizers and cocktails outside."

In these days of hustle and noise, the quiet elegance, remarkable view, excellent service and good food found at the Castaway was a very welcome break from the norm.
