Set between the Hyatt Regency and the Sheraton Grand, one block from the State Capitol, and Convention center, the 61 year old Broiler Steakhouse invites you to step back in time to an era before "corporate" dining; when you were the center of attention. Relax in the privacy of a high-back booth or a window table overlooking the K St Mall and direct your wait staff to serve at your pace while you enjoy contemporary culinary renditions of traditional favorites; fresh fish, Prawns, Lobster, duck and chicken specialties and of course, Sacramento's widest selection of hand cut Steak choices featuring the best beef available with choices that include American Kobe and USDA Prime.
"I have always enjoyed eating here. I am a stickler for service and the broiler meets all my expectations. From the family warmness we receive from Jose as we first enter to the constant attention throughout our meal to the moment we left. Then comes the food. They don't have a ten page menu. And frankly they don't need one. It's calld the broiler for a reason. The steaks, seared fish, pork chops and chicken. I could go on and on, but you won't believe me until you try it. Overall this place is a ten in my book."

"I am very delighted with our first experience here. If you make a RSVP, there is a parking space for the guest(s). As we walked out we were greeted by a very nice man. The 1950's decor. Which I don't mind (Which others might think it's old) because I think it's the restaurant theme. I find it to be pretty romantic for a special birthday for my husband. Our server was very friendly/attentive. Gave us a few recommendation on wine paring. We didn't get here name but, she's a pretty lady with dimples. Oysters on the Vi Shell(6) very fresh oysters. Caramelized Whiskey Salmon was cooked in perfection no burnt salmon! My fillet Mignon was OK. We had a bottle ofDomain Chandon Etoile Rose. My overall expeience was great would recommend to everyone."

"This was our first time at The Broiler. The food was good, the atmosphere was nice, didn't seem too busy. I was surprised that the service was a little slow, however very good. We were asked when we entered if we were there for a special occassion, which we were, our anniversary. After our dinner the waiter brought us out a dessert to share for our anniversary, which we didn't order. It was very tasty and I ate some of it even though I was full from our meal. I was surprised, however, when we got our bill and that dessert was on the bill! I didn't bother bringing it to their attention, but that did bother me."

"Some may fault the Broiler for being a bit of a "throwback" that hasn't kept up with the "trendy" foodie market but sometimes that is just "what the doctor ordered." I have enjoyed the Broiler for over 20 years - at its old J Street location and now on K st and have never been disappointed by the food or service. I used the Broiler for a client lunch and it delivered just as expected with great food with plenty of options and great service."

"This is one of those rare places in Sacramento where you will never have a bad meal. The staff is attentive without being cloying, and the food is ALWAYS top shelf.
I want their mashed potatoes recipe.
We make this a regular rotation location during the theater season. We will also bring out of town friends for a nice night out on the town.
Thank you for an always enjoyable evening"

"The waiter informed us upon being seated that the restaurant was out of bacon, so certain dishes (wedge salad) would be served sans bacon..UNLESS you ordered the bacon-wrapped duck. Totally lame...somebody should have made a grocery store run..."

"Old Fashioned cocktail was just the way I like them. Fried calimari appetizer was good, lightly battered, crispy, and a generous portion, except that one of the sauces was so hot it buried the taste of the calimari. My entre was a steak wrapped in prosciutto and "puff" pastry. The prosciutto was too salty, the pastry was soggy and tough. The steak itself was excellent. Steamed asparagus was delicious, cooked just right and very fresh. However, there was a square chunk of something grayish looking on the plate, that when I tried it, tasted like a gooey salt block. Waitress said it was the potatoes au gratin. It was terrible, and next time I'll stick with either the mashed potatoes colcannon or a baked potato. Loved the tiny dessert."

"My fiancée and myself enjoyed our dinner at The Broiler. The maître de was especially welcoming and made us feel very special. I appreciated the parking below the restaurant. We attended the musical at the Convention Center and this parking option made the entire evening perfect. Thanks for a great evening.
The only critical item on the meal would be the scalloped potato. It was not tasty and seemed like a frozen product heated up. I normally just have a baked potato but this night and because it was the Broiler I chose to change and get a differently prepared potato. Bad decision."

"We arrived 20 minutes before our reservations and checked to see if there happened to be any tables open early. The host seemed frazzeled and curtly said "NO" so we waited. At 7 we checked in and the same host nearly yelled at my boyfriend, " I TOLD YOU WE HAVE NO TABLES!" It was then we let him know we had reservations for 7 and he said that Open Table was wrong. When my boyfriend told him he was being rude he arrgued he was not, even the other guest were letting him know he was rude and an older couple even walked out. I have never been treated so poorly. I was so dissapointed by this service. This man JOSE has left a permanent impression of my first and last visit. We got the managers name and number and are awaiting his call back."

"Ambience was horrible and the service, Shannon was our server, even worse. I asked her what the signature dishes were at the restaurant and she couldn't even answer. For the price go across the street to ELLA for much better food and service!"

"Our dinner was scheduled prior to the performance of Les Miserables, and it seemed everyone else in town had the same idea. It took nearly an hour to get food on our table, but once things got going it was a great experience. The food was top-notch; my sister and I both chose seafood dishes. Even with the slow start, we were still able to relax through our dinner and get to the theatre with plenty of time to spare. As always, Jose made us feel like family!"

"Only one issue we found. Our waitress was almost rude. She spoke very fast and walked away while still talking. Never really gave us much at all. But even with that, the restaurant was awesome! Food was delicious and you got a lot. Would definitely go again. Hopefully the waitress will have found another job by then! Lol
Also, the maitre de was so awesome! Very accommodating and really wanted to make our time enjoyable!! The free parking is a definite plus!"

"Considering the price tag of the meal and entrees, our experience could have met expectations if our server would have been more professional and attentive. Could the flaws have been a rookie mistake? I doubt it. Our server took at least 15 minutes to come to our table for an introduction- long enough for our party of 6 to read the entire wine list and make a selection as well as consider the entire menu and have our orders ready to go. To take the women's order first is customary- this was not done. To take a drink order first was not done. To bring bread prior to appetizers and salads was not done. Checking back a few minutes after our meals began was not done to see if all was in order and tasting/cooked appropriately."

"As you walk in, Jose is almost always at the door to greet you - it only takes a couple of visits before he has your face and name memorized, but he always treats you like a king and a valued customer. The steak is amazing, the drinks are classically made, the mashed potatoes are of the type that make you want to kidnap the chef, and force him to prepare that delight every day for you. This place is nothing short of wonderful. Their staff is outstanding, keeping close eye on you and your guests, holding back plates if they see you dining slowly and taking your time, (They NEVER rush you) or speeding up your order if you plow through like a ravenous T-rex. THIS is where you go to have a great dinner!"

"We eat at The Broiler 9 or 10 times a year as our go-to for beef. Filet's, New York's, Porterhouse, and the great specials (Bacon - wrapped filet) etc....makes my mouth water just thinking about it. And join the email club to get special deals."

"We had a group of 10 seated in a private dining room. The service was outstanding and very attentive. The food was great, steaks were very tender and the fish entries were outstanding. The final bill with wine and drinks was very reasonable with the end tip. I would highly recommend The Broiler to anyone that has a special occasion or even just a friendly night out."

"I know restaurants tend to be packed on Mothers Day but this one had plenty of seating available. The decor is white tablecloth beautiful bar, nice tables. The waiter was very personable. He made suggestions and how device was good. He made wine reccomenations because the bottle I chose was not available. We ordered the Filet, two of us were not happy with the Filet and one was. We took bites of each others and realized some inconsistentcy so I sent my steak back. The waiter was cordial and helpful. I chose the Chicken Penne instead. It was delicious."

"The manager of the restaurant sat us at our table. Since it was Mothers Day, my wife and I decided we would keep our 9 month old daughter with us for dinner. Unfortunately, our daughter was louder than normal and we felt like maybe we had made the wrong decision to bring her. The manager returned to our table and informed us if their was anything that we needed for our daughter at all to just let him know. We apologized for the noise and he said, "not at all, when you are dining with us you are at home". Great service!! The food came quickly and was delicious. Highly recommend the calamari as an appetizer as well...the spicy suace that comes with it is amazing. My wife was very happy with my choice :-)"

"The service, though very nicely done, was really slow. At least the kitchen was slow. We were given a discount on the meals to compensate for the 30-40 minutes we waited for our order, but the waiter provided no warning that it was going to be slow or explanation why it was. The Shrimp and Crab Louis was delicious though small. The dressing was put on the greens and not on the other items. The dressing was very good but perhaps a little drizzled over the top would have added that flavor to the egg and shell fish."

"Our host was very eager to please and made us feel very welcomed. Our waittress however forgot how to describe the complimentary white raisin crostinis that were provided for us when we were sat (free of charge I might add, a very nice touch) and trailed off mid sentence before giving up. She was a good waittress for the remainder, except we had to wait 15 minutes for her to re-collect the bill with my credit card at the meal's end.
Aside from a few staff oddities, the experience was wonderful. The filet was cooked perfectly with an excellent char on the outside and tender rare inside. The busboy was extremely professional and attentive with our table and water needs. The ambiance is chic 1980s, very cool. We will definitely return."

"Excellent service, generous portions, fresh food nicely prepared. The prime rib was excellent, as well as the other steaks. The restaurant was recommeded by a SAC local who has been there many times. I will go back as they had several items on the menu that I'd like to try. Though the decor is a throwback to the the 60's steakhouse, it is comfortable booths and soft lighting."

"The service was slow but understandable because a large groups from the convention center showed up without reservations. HOWEVER the young lady that was our server was just plain rude. We asked for menus and she just walked away and basically could not be bothered. We were a party of 7 with 3 menus to share. The manager is very pleasant but to busy to monitor the service.."

"The Broiler is definitely dated, but not in a bad way. It reminded me of a place you would find guys from Mad Men having business lunches. The beef Wellington was perfectly cooked, as was my partner's steak Oscar. The wine list is ok, but not extensive. The small bite desserts are worth it, the profiterole was more than 2 bites, and under $3. If you're in downtown Sacramento, it's worth looking into if you're tired of the artisanal frilly plates and want a well cooked, quality cut of beef."

"Our server was wonderful - once he finally arrived. We were seated and basically overlooked. Mushroom soup was mediocre - guess we were expecting a creamy soup. This tasted like it was dumped in a blender, pureed and then served. Our steaks (rib eye and New York) were fabulous. Our big complaint was the two large incredibly loud, groups that were dining there. They thought nothing of yelling to people at the next table ignoring the fact that there was anyone else in the restaurant but them. The staff did nothing to dissuade this - I guess because they brought in lots of money. This is the 3rd time we have dined here and each time it has been like this. We will be hard pressed to return!"

"The interior of this restaurant is very dark and dated. It made me wonder if the back where the food was prepared has dated equipment too. The owner greeted us at the door and was very nice (a little too nice). He went on and on about how he wanted to make sure we were happy with our experience checking back with us frequently at the table. After a while it made us feel uncomfortable. The waitress was just plain strange. She acted impatient when we didn't make up our mind quickly about drinks or dinner selections and just walked away three times. She had no personality at all. Get a different job girl."

"We are semi-regulars at the Broiler and they rarely disappoint. This occasion was not different and may have been one of the best meals we have enjoyed at the Broiler, ever. We love lamb shanks, and their guiness lamb shanks were great on Saturday night. I think they changed the sauce on it, but whatever they did, I hope they do it again, and again, and again. Service was terrific; our server Tyler did a great job and Jose, the host, was, as usual, friendly, helpful and efficient. One of our best meals in Sac this year (at least top three, and that includes the Kitchen and Ella's.) We were very, very satisfied."

"Me and my wife had a very enjoyable evening. The food was excellent and our waiter was superb, his name was Robert and he even remembered that I was celebrating my B-day with a beautiful desert. The only problem was the parking. We had reservations and free parking in the garage but the elevators were not working and it was hard to find the restaurant, we had to use the service stairs to get to the main lobby, but all in all it was a great night. Thank You."
