Bijou Restaurant & Bar
Bijou Restaurant & Bar, will provide the East Bay with a chic new dining option. Bijou will showcase contemporary French/California cuisine, offered at reasonable prices. Bijou’s main dining room seats 80 guests, with space for 30 in the lounge and bar and 32 on the outdoor patio.
Prepared by Executive Chef Christian Nam-Hee using seasonal, fresh, often locally sourced, organic ingredients. Chef Nam-Hee, a native of France, graduated from the Ecole de Paris des Metiers de la Table in Paris. His career includes time at a number of elite French restaurants such as Le Grenadin (under 2-star Michelin Chef Patrick Cirotte), La Chaumiere and Le Bienvenue.
Bijou's bar specializes in creative mixology that bridges the gap between the kitchen and the bar. Taking fresh, seasonal produce and locally distilled, artisan spirits and creating amazing cocktails.

"Always solid! Tried some new dishes and the food did not disappoint. Service was very good and our server recognized us even though we have only been there 3-4 times. The Warriors were playing, so it was a little more "energetic" than usual."

"I've been here a few times and the food is always good but the Crossiant pudding dessert is to die for!! It's a homerun every time! Catch a groupon or living social deal and you can get a pre-fixe meal for around $35 that includes a glass of champagne!"

"It is delightful to discover French cuisine in downtown Hayward. While the food was very well prepared and a good value with our voucher from Travelzoo, but at full price it is rather steep. Service was excellent though perhaps a little too brisk. As a party of two, we enjoyed the dark, cozy ambience of the dining room, but the noise level was unacceptable for an intimate dinner."

"We had an excellent prix six dinner that we purchased on Living Social site. Very Euro stye decor, great food, presented beautifully, the waitstaff was on top of clearing dishes, refilling water glasses, and delivering the food in a timely fashion. "This restaurant is one of Hayward's best kept secrets with a good selection of wine. My wife and I split a Asian pear salad and it was great and the split was just the right amount. We split an order of the Jalapeno Croquettes and they were awesome. My wife had the sautéed prawns and she enjoyed them but I had the grilled baby back ribs and we both thought they were to die for. Even though we ordered for the small plates menu we left the restaurant comfortably full and delighted. As I was eating my everything all I could think about was my next trip to the restaurant to try some of the other menu items. We had 7:00 pm reservations and were promptly seated and the Wait staff and attention was excellent. We're going back this weekend."

"The pear salad was light and good. The baby back rib appetizers were a little too chewy, but had a good flavor and I liked the purple cabbage underneath for presentation and eating. My husband's Beef bourguignon was wonderfully tender. And my Scallops were wonderful, but I could have definitely had more that two. Our son had a dessert with chocolate and ice cream and croissant in a ramekin. We enjoyed it much more than my crepe, which was kind of nondescript. It was a little difficult to hear due to the many diners, but I'm thankful Bijou is doing well in our downtown Hayward niche. It was a lovely evening."

"My first thought is the service was superior. Always available, never pushy; explained everything, good recommendations.
Menu selections are very good. Everything we ordered was good. They have some creative cocktails and an ok wine list.
It's not an expensive restaurant so don't expect expensive gourmet extravagance, but within the bounds that define a mid-priced menu, they do an exceptional job. We will go back. There are more goodies to try."

"Overall my experience here was mediocre. Food was alright, drinks were good. Boo to no beers on tap. They forgot someone's order, she didn't get her salmon until everyone was done. But they did give her a free dessert. Their croissant bread pudding was delicious, warm brie was good. Entrees were so-so, nothing to special. Skirt steak was chewier than what I would have liked, scallop risotto could have been more flavorful, chicken thighs were on the drier side, and pork loin was saltier than I would normally like."

"I am new to the Eaat Bay from Mill Valley so I was pleased to see what appeared to be a decent restaurant in Hayward on Opentable. I met two friends from college who were visiting from Virginia and everyone enjoyed the food. We especially liked the skillfully made cocktails. I would have given the restaurant 4 stars had the service not been so slow. Drinks sat empty for 10-15 minutes (we were ready to drink it up but only managed 2 drinks each over a 2 hour sitting) and waitress check-ins were rare. However, to be fair, once we were attended to, the wait staff were friendly and no mistakes were made."

"I am not sure what the strange looking green dipping sauce was that came with my bread, but it was GREAT! I followed that with the Baby Back Rib appetizer that was out of this world. "Overall the value of the prix-fixe for two at the Living Social coupon cost was good; I would not pay the full price for the portion sizes. Food was well prepared and thoughtfully composed but small. My dish had two small scallops on a bed of asparagus risotto with one less than one inch piece of asparagus in the mix. The tuna tartare was very nicely prepared and the sauces very flavorful. The restaurant was quite busy which I was very happy to see as the service was very good. The ambiance is a bit dark for my taste but pleasant. Wine and beer list varied, diverse and reasonable. Definitely upscale for Hayward."

"I bought a Living Social Prix Fix certificate for myself and for my sister and her husband for Christmas. We ended up doing a double date and wondered what kind of food we would be served since it was pre-determined. We were surprised at the choices we had and everything we ordered was wonderful! We had a choice of 6 different salads, 4 different entrees and 3 different desserts. I can tell you that the tuna tartar, the scallops with asparagus risotto and the croissant bread pudding were the best. Would definitely go there again with or without the special offer. :)"

"I think the restaurant must have cut back the quantity of the food because people had groupon because there was no way that the price for Scallop entree could be $28. The whole plate had barely two pieces of scallop on top of the scoop of risotos. The service made the mistake several times on other customers' orders but not us. However, we still tipped her 20% on $145."

"Everything here was amazing from the food to the wine to the ambience. Food came out quickly and was prepared well. We had a LivingSocial voucher and were pleasantly surprised. We received the bill before we got our champagne and I requested coffee/tea for a replacement. Our server looked put out and brought cold coffee and green tea. I requested a warm up and received a completely different cup of coffee with grounds and it tasted thick as mud. I might go back but no after dinner drinks for me."

"I requested a table that may have some kind of a romantic scenery but it was as dark and pain as it comes. To top it off, the food was over powered by onions and vinegar.the least I could do was enjoy the desert but even that was a disappointment! How am I supposed to enjoy a dessert that tasted previously frozen?! Everything just tasted cheap right out of a processed food factory."

"We had the 3-course menu through groupon. We had an 8:30pm reservation on a Friday night and were seated fairly quickly after ordering drinks at the bar. THe martini was good.
(1) Food: I had the tuna tartare, salmon and crepe while my wife had the baby-back ribs, beef and croissant Pudding. My wife liked all three courses. I thought the tuna was good, but heavy on the onions, the salmon was good, a little on the dry side. I think serving it with mashed potatoes was odd. We both liked the desserts.
(2) Service: It was good for the first two courses. Dessert took a long time. Then mine arrived and we waited some time for hers."

"Another couple joined us for dinner at Bijou Restaurant and Bar in downtown Hayward. We were pleased to find the place was not as noisy as previous occasions -- the bar area is adjacent to the dining area and the chain divider does not provide much of a noise buffer.
We ate from the prix fixe menu, which offered an unusually large choice of selections. Two of us had two different fresh salads while the other two enjoyed a nice leek soup. Three of us had the boeuf bourginon entrée (delicious) and one had the prawn entrée. One of us enjoyed a chardonnay. The only criticism food-wise was my Coke got watered down quickly and was barely light brown in color (and taste)halfway through my meal.
Service was very accommodating."

"This is not my first time at Bijou, time after time I am more impressed with the my experience their and that what makes me wanting to go their all the time. I don’t live in Hayward but work around and it is a great get away after work to end the week and start the weekend right. I love their drinks and my oh my food is out of this world good."

"Loved the food (I had tuna tartarre and scallops and my wife had salad and salmon pesto) and loved the service (server Hannah was really nice and friendly) but the neighborhood is very thuggy... I truly hope the owner will open the same restaurant at a more upscale/safer location. I want to hive it 5 stars, but the location drags the ration to 4/5... Which is still outstanding, and strongly recommended"
