"Food: Had some quite mediocre nabeyaki udon ($16). The noodles could have come out of a package, the broth was nothing special, and the chicken in the soup was quite hard and dry. My friend got the Rock 'n Roll, which was $18, and again somewhat mediocre. Club soda, $4.50, no refills.
Service: The restaurant was fairly empty, but it took quite a while for the waitress to get to us, except for handling the check. When she did come to us, she quite sharply interrupted our conversation (this happened 3 times), which I found pretty annoying.
Ambiance: A very nice setting and nice wooded modern decor. Well lit.
Noise: Not too noisy when it was fairly empty, until lunch hour progressed and more loud, chatty people showed up."

"Not to be confused with Kyo Ya in New York, which is a kaiseki restaurant. This one in San Francisco specializes in sushi. Decent sushi, but shari (sushi rice) left something to be desired. Some neta (sushi ingredients) were not available either."

"A major disappointment. An undistinguished space, over-priced and mediocre sushi, and conversation-challenging even with the restaurant only partially filled. Not recommended."

"Just average but noise level made it an appropriate choice considering our friends were staying at the adjacent hotel and wanted to have sushi."

"Kyo-ya is a nice, quiet, and very beautiful place to dine. I went here for my second anniversary and my fiance and I were delighted with the high class service, food, and ambiance. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for good food and a wonderful time."

"the sushi rolls were not exciting and over salted fish. service was slow and the place was not busy and seemed overstaffed. i'd stick to happy hour and the appetizers. menu not very diverse."
