"Our first visit to Marine Room. The space gave us a very warm and inviting welcome when we entered the restaurant. However the food in every category was average at best, considering the 5 star status it enjoys. Crab cakes were drenched in a sweet sauce. Mushroom appetizer however was very good with unique ingredients. Kids chicken was a bit bland, specially it was low on salt. Sea bass was a bit bland. Halibut was excellent anf flaky but the mint sauce was.... Well.... It was kind of funny. Scallops were very good. Creme brûlée was good but not worth $15 and it lacked limoncello flavor. Overall.... They had the best view in the city.... Period. However, the food was quite a diappointment."

"I first visited the Marine Room in 1957. It was Top Class then and is still Top Class. The prices are a little different, but the food has got better as the time has rolled by. Everything about it can only be described as "BRILLIANT". This occasion was for a very special birthday for my wife, and it showed. The staff in all the areas we were in contact with were perfect. I cannot recommend anything that could have made it better."

"We hadn't been to the Marine Room in years and are very glad we went. We spent 2 1/2 hours there enjoying our wine, the ambience, the incredible view of the Pacific Ocean, the delicious food -- the entire experience. We will definitely make our way there more often. It's an all around delight. Our waiter was very good - he's been there 32 years. It's pricey but worth it."

"What can you say about the Marine Room except that it is Perfect. We we seated at table on the terrace with a wonderful view and the waitstaff were exceptional!! We all chose the lobster 3 course special with wine pairing it was declared SUPERB by all 6 of us. The wine pairings were perfect and one person in our party request the name of one of the wines so he could find it back home. If you miss the Marine Room, you miss THE Best restaurant in San Diego!!"

"Only disappointment involved the booking request to indicate any special occasion. I indicated that my wife and I were celebrating our 11th anniversary, having been here for our 1st, and that it was also her special birthday celebration. Typically, some sort of acknowledgement takes place. However nothing happened. Did not affect our enjoyment of the ambience, food, desert, etc. Just a bit of a disappointment."

"Outstanding food, service, and ocean view place this restaurant among my top choices in the San Diego area. The lobster bisque had a unique flavor that made me not want to see the bottom of the bowl and the scallops were cooked to perfection. The ambiance was perfect for easy conversation around the table. A bevy of well trained staff attended to our every needs and had extensive knowledge of the menu items and spices used in their preparation. I try to visit the Marine Room when my travels take me to San Diego."

"The food was excellent and the scenic view of the sun setting and the waves crashing against the windows made for a wonderful setting for my wife and I - it was our 5 year anniversary. The service was very poor. The Hostess barely smiled and I felt like I was intruding in her evening. I had requested a table by the window in my reservation and she said we didn't have any and didn't even try to work out something even though it was our fifth anniversary. We sat at a table away from the window and our waitor was slow and had no energy - I stopped a bus boy to see if he could get us the table we wanted - since there was one available and sure enough he did. The waitor filled our water glasses from an old bottle of water left on the ledge ?"

"Setting can't be beat. Below average bar service. Waiter was very good. Once we ordered, he suggested that we change to a less "heavy" salad to share, which ended up being the right suggestion. HIs wine recommendation was also outstanding. We had scallops and sea bass. Scallops and sea bass were very good, but don't think I would order the sea bass again, but would absolutely re-order the scallops. Surprised the waiter didn't clean off the table thoroughly before our after dinner drinks served. Again, you can't beat the view!"

"Great food, great view, poor service. Asked waiter to bring an extra spoon for soup; he offered to split it in the kitchen and did neither. Manager brought a complimentary extra soup with an apology and a smile. Very nice classy gesture! Asked for salt on table; finally (2nd request) it arrived. Bill came with extra bar charges for drinks and food. Waiter blamed the bar for the "improper transfer." We expect more from a restaurant of this quality."

"View and food expectacular. "The food was very good. However, the menus are pretentious and difficult to understand, especially the dessert menu. It looked like someone overused a thesaurus to find every uncommon word to describe a dish without ever actually saying what it was. Also, the food is way, way overpriced for what you get. Most restaurants would only dare charge about 50-60% of what this place charges for the same dish. It's a waste of money."

"Live music in the bar the evening we were at the restaurant was very good. Wine pour was a little light, but wine was very good.
We commented after the dinner that every bite of everything we chose was simply delicious. The Caesar Salad, although not prepared table-side as noted on the menu, was the best we have had in years. Ahi was amazingly delicious and the Butterfish was excellent.
Too full to think about ordering dessert.
Would definitely return to this beautiful restaurant."

"We dine at the Marine Room 3 times each year for birthdays and anniversary. The food is always memorably tasty and unique. We are always just full enough when we leave. The service is always faultless and attentive. We never feel rushed and never feel neglected."

"This restaurant has lost its edge. They have cheapened the buffet and discontinued the free champagne. Beef is no longer prime rib. Minimal sea food. Carver at the meat station kept taking bites off the carving board. I couldn't believe my eyes! This place used to be so crowded you had to wait for a table even when you made a reservation. Not any more. The place of was half empty. Guess other people have caught on. All this and at a top price. Save your money and go to 94th Aero Squadron."

"I have dined at the Marine Room on a number of occasions, but this was my first time having Brunch there. I prefer ordering from the menu vs brunch. I was a bit disappointed with the brunch selection. The 2 best items I enjoyed there were the prime rib and the eggs benedict, which were the best I've had. The mimosas (which are not included in the price) are with Perrier Jouet and was delicious."

"What an elegant classy restaurant ! My boyfriend and I tried this restaurant and we were so impressed. I had the tuna special and it was by far the best tuna I've had since moving to California a few months ago. My boyfriend had the diver scallops and petite filet mignon special and although the filet was petite he said its the best he has had! We had a very expensive bottle of wine and it tasted so much better because we had it at the marine room. We will definitely be back!!! Thank you so much to Lisa for helping us with the wine and also our server Rick who was just so pleasant and fun."

"I was a little disappointed. The service was not as good as I had remembered. We ordered from the Sunday night lobster menu with wine parings. For one course our wine didnt come until we were almost done with the course. Our wine pairing for desert came way too early."

"Extremely disappointed with the service. I chose the Marine Room for our 15th Wedding Anniversary. Our Opentable reservation indicated the special occassion and requested a table with a terrific view. I even spoke to the restaurant no less than 3 times on the phone to emphasize the importance of the occassion - and the request for a nice table. Although they claimed to have "noted" the request, we were seated at a broken table with no view. No one even acknowledged our anniversary. We pointed out the issues with the table, but the server simply confirmed it was broken. No manager came by to check on us. Really disappointing."
