"The food was exquisitely prepared with gorgeous presentation. The taste temperature and texture was perfect. Attentive courteous service, including the bus staff.
Can't wait to return..."

"Dark wood, large windows and large upholstered panels placed i n various strategic spots along the walls lent a sense of intimacy and hushed what could be a blaring din into a comfortable and enjoyable setting. We were lucky enough to get Scott as our server,he's excellent. We started with a couple of appetizers. The "Bacon and Egg" dish, actually salmon chips made to look like bacon with deviled eggs. It was beautifully prepared, not overly salty at all, and very tasty. We also ordered the sea scallops starter with polenta fries. That was so good, I thought about ordering it as an entree. We then decided to split an entree and went with the filet mignon. It was fantastic. A great restaurant, not too hard on the wallet."

"This restaurant was recommended to me by friends that live in Evanston. I have returned since with business colleagues who are staying downtown. They have enjoyed getting away from downtown, but still it isn't too far. The menu has a nice variety but is not overwhelming with choices. The service is very good and you can have a comfortable discussion."

"This is one of our favorite restaurants! We've never been disappointed. Food is always delicious and we never feel rushed. The timing between "courses" is perfect. Staff is friendly and professional. A great place for special occasions. Their artichoke appetizer is to die for in our opinion."

"We ate several times at Stained Glass and its sidekick, Cellar, last week. The chicken at Stained Glass was overcooked and significantly out of balance, and the pork belly pierogis were heavy lumps, but we really enjoyed the lamb chops, salmon with cauliflower/ricotta/puff pastry, and skinny fries. Service was excellent, and the ambiance at both appealed to all generations. "Tapas" portions are gigantic, and prices reasonable."

"The food was really good and BEAUTIFULLY presented. Everything was fresh and hot. The only things I would have changed are I wanted the waitress to be at the table a bit more and there was a really long time between when each course was brought out. The salmon was really tasty and cooked well, tuna three ways was delicious, and the desserts were great. I'd come again."

"My daughter discovered the Stained Glass via the internet in December 2012. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the experience. The food , wine, service and ambiance were all well beyond our expectations. My wife and I have now been back three or four times and each time the experience exceeds our expectations. We have used it for personal and business entertainment. The Stained Glass is our top go to place for eating out when we are looking for a consistently excellent experience in dining. Thank you Stained Glass staff. Joe Ehrenberg"

"My husband and I travel all over the world and the United States and have had the chance to dine in many wonderful places. I'd place this meal as one of the best. We shared a fabulous trio of French wines selected from a number of interesting choices. We had a butter lettuce salad that was beautifully dressed and garnished with candied walnuts. The BLT appetizer featured seared foie gras and was great as well as creative. Our main was Australian lamb chops prepared medium rare accompanied by all sorts of wonderful delicacies including marcona almonds, asparagus, grits, and a savory creme brulee. For dessert we enjoyed a chocolate layer cake with genache topped with candied chocolate nibs (oh, my!!). Everything was perfect!"

"The dinner was truely one of the best in a very long time. My husband had baby octopus appetizer and lobster bisque, both of which had him singing in delight. I had the vegetarian meal--chick pea fritata -- and it was sensational. I'm usually a half eater -- I eat half my meal and bring the rest home. It is a high standard when I eat every single crumb on the plate. And that I did. Our daughter had the free-range ckicken and her boyfriend ordered the duck. They had nearly clean plates as well. Dessert: the sorbet quartet (delicious!) and the panna cotta -- not a bite was left of either dish. Nice waiter, no rushing. We had a leisurely time and it was easy to have conversation."

"The two vegetarian entrees were quite good: gnocchi and cornmeal squares with curried corn and broccolini. I would go back again and try other selections, too."

"Went for a nice dinner. Thought it was supposed to be a romantic place. Was wrong there. Tables close together and very few 2 person tables in between. Food was good nothing awesome. About 8pm on Sat night place got packed a few tables of 6 were around. Went from nice conversation to having to almost yell. Was not fun after that."

"We have frequented The Stained Glass Bistro quite a few times over the past couple of years. We always had a great experience. Nice welcome by the Maitre D', courteous wait staff, food is good. The last time we went the noise level was rather high but that seems to be the norm with most of the popular restaurants. Maybe a week night would be a better choice if one would like to enjoy an intimate dining experience."

"The food was beautifully plated and hit all the right spots. Not usually a dessert seeker but these were extraordinarily tasty down to the last bite. Valet gave us a most friendly hello as we entered the restaurant. From there, the hostesses and wait staff were less warm, somewhat stiff...perhaps are faced with a more stuffy clientele.
The Stained Glass is clean and modern with beautiful ceilings and an attractive bar. Management has made efforts to control the noise level - more restaurants could take note.
Will definitely be back."

"We have visited this restaurant several times, and have never been disappointed. Prices are slightly on the high side, but not without reason. The food is always fresh; the flavors are superb. I highly recommend this restaurant for any type of special occasion justifying the cost. However, one can make a very good meal here for a reasonable sum by dining on soup/salad and/or delicious appetizers. Wine selections are excellent."

"Food was excellent, enjoyed by high school age to college and parents. Tried a couple of flights and subsequently went out and bought all three wines for our home cellar. Service was friendly, attentive and informative. Overall, well done. Thx"

"Great food. The only drawback was hearing all the service notes exchanged between employees, ie "table 6 is ready to turn over", etc. Heard these comments all night. Seemed beneath the level of this restaurant that patrons would here these exchanges."

"Very nice restaurant - & was the perfect place to take my husband for a special night out for his 35th birthday. We had flights of wine from France & Italy and the food was superb (rack of lamb for him, filet mignon for me)."

"The food is good and the ambiance is OK, but the service is not good at all. While no staffer we encountered seemed to be intentionally rude, nearly everyone with whom we interacted behaved as though they had received no training (or, more likely, poor training) on how to serve the public (the lone exception being the young bartender). Our waitress as well as both individuals at the maitre d' stand were consistently unfriendly and authoritative, essentially ordering us to do whatever they thought we should do at the time. And the busboy clearing the table had to be told repeatedly to stop taking unfinished plates and glasses. With all the other choices in Evanston, it's hard to imagine going back to Stained Glass."

"Everything seems scaled back and just ok. It was our favorite place for years. Used to be vibrant. Now space is void of any interesting visual touches (ie: a art, wine displays which were removed) & even the wine service has been scaled back to boring as well a overpriced. Severs seem to be dialing it in. The whole place including food needs to be given a facelift."

"We reasly enjoyed the experience. The food selections ended with "loved it" and now let's come back for more. The appetizers were large enough to be medium small dishes with two more than sufficing for a meal. But then, where is room for the entrees? A great spot for relaxing friends talking and eating together."

"We received a gift card for a wedding gift from friends who said Stained Glass was one of their favorites. Our reservation was made for 7 and we were seated about 20 min. later. It would have been nice to have been offered a drink as we could not get at the bar and there were 3 hostesses who did not look busy. I had to ask for water, and it took a long time to get the waiter's attention to order or to ask for a piece of bread as we saw other tables being offered bread. We thought the atmosphere was cozy. Thank goodness our food was excellent, both appetizers, entrees and dessert. The red wine, better than the staff pick for samplers. There was one table between us and a very loud, rude male customer. He was berating his female companion"

"One problem is that they weren't able to seat us until more than 30 minutes past the reservation time. That happens, and it's not their fault that we were late for an after-dinner show, but still it is an example of what happens when too many reservations are accepted. Service was great in terms of waitstaff-- just very slow in terms of kitchen. We thought it was a bit too pricey given the portions. Walleye was delicious but a very small portion. 2 mid-range entrees, one salad, and one glass of wine put us well over $100 with tax and tip."

"We went to Stained Glass. Few times before, service was great always. This last time we got very disappointed with service, the waitress was unatentive and seemed even rude! Restaurant was crowded, yes Friday night probably the busiest evening, but management has to make sure all workers still doing their job according restaurant rating! And as usual in case of bad service she showed up at the end to ask how did we like the diner?....awful, just to get tipped?!!!"
