"A special meal for Mom at a Garage? You wouldn't usually make that connection, and you might be afraid of getting engine grit in the eggs florentine. But at the Capitol Garage, the landmark trendy eatery in midtown Sacramento, we had the portobello benedict, the shrimp rancheros, the kahlua coffee, the pear-up, and the caliente bloody mary--all served flawlessly in the Garage's funky, but family-oriented atmosphere. The flavors popped in each colorful concoction, and, after our leisurely brunch, we enjoyed the short walk to the rose garden on the State Capitol grounds. It doesn't get better than this."

"Ate here for Mothers Day, but found most of the food too spicy for my taste (and I usually like spicy). Three of us could not finish our breakfast because the jalepenos overpowered the dish; namely in the burrito, bisquits and gravy, and spicy bloody mary. Others thought the food was so-so. French toast was rather dry and nothing special. The potatoes were good. Overall, disappointing because I had heard such good comments from friends. Maybe lunch is more satisfying? The decor is very edgy: grafitti on the walls, so not what I would consider soothing. On the plus side, there is outdoor dining and it's a close walk to the gardens/park of the state capitol. Service was good on this day."

"Great outdoor seating. I really liked the relaxed atmosphere. Brunch selection was nice and they have good vegetarian choices. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I will definitely go here again when I'm in Sacramento."

"I love that you have so many different vegetarian options. This is a nice change. Good food - loved the tofu burger. Service is inconsistend, though. One night waiter (owner?) went out of his way & was very attentive; the next night different server, not so much."

"The reservation was for 5pm and when I arrived a note on the door indicated that a private party had reserved the whole place at 6! But not to worry, we were accommodated quite nicely and service was great. It was interesting to watch the staff gussy up the place for the special event. My friend and I were never rushed to give up the one table that we occupied. Our meal was tasty and I highly recommend the hummus veggie plate; very filling as an appetizer to share, or as a meal for one (though a few more pieces of the delicious crusty toast would be appropriate). The wine selection is good and at a fair price. I wish that we had been offered or asked about dessert, those I saw from afar looked intriguing. Capital Garage remains a favorite."

"Close to convention center, in the corner of the Residence Inn parking structure, aka the Capitol Garage. American Diner menu reasonably priced. Spinach Salad with garlic shrimp excellent. Others had brisket sandwich, Cobb salad and burgers. Plates were cleaned. Happy Hour good, appetizers for Happy Hour very generous. Painted with street art so the walls are very busy and not easy on the eyes. No restful place to look. Very noisy b/c all surfaces bounce the noise, hard walls, floor & tables, lots of glass and the outside seating is open to the inside so there's street noise as well. Outside seating is probably quieter. Party of 7 but could only hear 3-4 closest to us and still difficult. Our waiter had difficulty hearing us."

"Perhaps the best steak I've had in my life. The portobello on the sandwiche that my friend ordered was charred beyond recognition and had to be removed and discarded. No compensation was offered. Also it was his birthday and there was no recognition of the event."

"The polenta appetizer was good, but bland (salt??). The quesadilla was very good. The spinach salad was delicious, but had too many red peppers & cashews for my liking. Great happy hour specials & house wines. Thank you for having so many unique vegan options! We'll definitely be back."

"Waitress was great, very personable, attentive but wasn't obtrusive (I wish I could remember her name). We had the Eggs Benedict and the hollandaise sause was well prepared and wasn't cold when we got our plates. However, the eggs were a bit over-cooked. We were surprised that even though every table was full, the noise level seemed really low. Overall we had a great experience and we'll be back again."

"We were very disappointed. This place used to be much better. The brunch/breakfast menu is now much smaller, and less creative than it used to be. The food is really not good anymore. In particular, the potatoes were terrible, deep fried with no seasoning. I ordered a "scramble" which turned out to be scrambled eggs with the other ingredients just piled on top of the eggs! (Aren't scrambles supposed to be eggs with other ingredients scrambled together?) We won't be returning to Capitol Garage. It's a shame because I used to enjoy the brunches there!"

"I used to LOVE having Sunday brunch at Capital Garage and was very sad to see the place has gone down hill quick, at least for brunch. My favorite dish on the menu was the Monte Cristo Sandwich, it was expensive but I always felt it was worth it because of the quality of ingredients and delicious taste, I ordered this on this trip not knowing they had changed the recipe...dry, different bread, no longer soaked in French toast custard, no longer served with home made preserves and a fried egg on top and no longer came with potatoes! There was now an upcharge of $2-3 for potatoes and a fruit plate both of which used to be included with the bottomless brunch. My friends happy scramble was fine but small. Mimosas 80% juice, gave us headache!"

"I was disappointed in the service and food. The location was not busy when we arrived and picked up a little as the night progressed, but not so much where we should of been ignored. Our appetizer arrived way after all our drinks had already been consumed. One entree at the table arrived 15 min after everyone had already received theirs. One entree required a use of a spoon and it was never brought or could not be requested cause our server failed to return to the table. I expected much more from this place, due to the wonderful reviews placed on Yelp, but I will not be returning here for and future dinning experiences."

"Chicken tenders were not tender, just frozen chicken that was fried too long. Hubby ordered a Turkey sandwich, which was dry and bland. Slices of turkey grilled to death in between some bread, with cheese and bacon. Same situation w the pastrami sandwich, very dry. The Cobb salad was okay, except for the really hard, dry pieces of chicken tenders that had more crunch than croutons, lack of dressing and Gorgonzola cheese made for a sad salad. Service was minimal, the waitress was nice enough, but didn't check on us until we were almost done eating to ask how we were doing or to refill drinks. I ordered their 'fruitini': thick, nasty, tasted medicinal-like. I flagged the waitress down and she happily replaced it for me w a yummy lemondrop."

"The salads were great; not huge but a good portion. Host/waiter was attentive but did not find my reservation. Service was fast and courteous. Food was good. We were seated on upper platform; my friend tripped and fell, as did another older gentleman...that was scary. Server and owner apologized and expressed appropriate concern but this should be fixed quickly. Small place but likely a good lunch or afterwork hangout. It was my first time but I would return."

"the server was attentive and fast. the noise was kind of high and at the time they were changing it from a restaurant to a bar setting up a dj and stage ect. The food was very over priced and sub-par quality at best. My gf shrimp fettuccine tasted like pur lemon and had no other flavor. The $12 cheese fries had a strange brown sauce and woere of poor quality and flavor. Not worth the money. The pulled pork sandwich i had was greasy and did not really have any specific flavors. The total check $48. For this price i could have eaten at bucca di beppo or el novillero and left un-dissapointed. All in all i wouldnt reccomend eating dinner here. I hope the breakfast is better. @ stars just because out waiter was good otherwise 1 star"

"The pastrami scramble with dill and hollandaise sauce had about a teaspoon of hollandaise sauce and I'm quite sure they only used one egg for the scramble. The plate was mostly dried up unflavored potato chunks which were obviously from a package. The pastrami was very good and so were the unlimited mimosas...but for $50 for two people for breakfast...never going back, was my first time and so disappointed."

"Came here for the Groupon deal -- it was an all-inclusive dinner for 2 (salads + entree + shared dessert.) The food was good, though the grilled top sirloin wasn't as large as I was expecting. The bacon was cooked perfectly, so how can I complain? Good beer on tap, and the waiter we had was attentive."

"Probably our last time dining here. They were changing out their taps Tuesday night, so no beer on tap (meaning no dark beers at all.) After being told what wasn't available from the menu, we ordered. Ten min later, our server informed us that the ravioli wasn't available, but he'd found one last steak. My sweetie had the steak and that was the only thing on the plate that wasn't completely nasty. The mashed potatoes were running and the gravy on top unappetizing. Worst yet, the bacon on the potatoes was stale (maybe leftover from Bacon Fest?) My fettuccini was delicious, but I'd really wanted the ravioli. We had chili truffles for dessert - very hot and tasty, but the chili seeds should have been removed. Excellent coffee."

"Celebrated my moms 73rd birthday here with family. The food was out standing. I had the seafood fettuccine and it was so good and loaded with shrimp, YUM! My other family members had chicken Marsala, BBQ beef brisket sandwich(which was juicy &loaded with meat) a hot pastrami dip, all was out standing. The blackberry cheesecake & bread pudding, mmmmmmmmmmmmm. The wine list is superb as well. We had Pamela as our waitress and she gave us above and beyond service. She was worth the $30.00 tip we left her."

"I've been here a few times for brunch, but tried happy hour/dinner for the first time. I like that their happy hour is till 7 because it gives those who work further away a chance to unwind after a long day too. My friends and I ordered the Happy Hour Platter that had all 5 of their appetizer specials. It was delicious. Their drink prices are good too. I will definitely come back for the food and great service."

"Overall, I would not return to Capitol Garage. They have a pretty good beer selection and if that's all I wanted it would be fine. We went for dinner and it's totally possible our server was stoned. At one point he forgot to bring a beer that was ordered until he had been by the table twice and we asked where it was on the third trip by the table. He also forgot to put in the order for my main dish. My boyfriend had been served his salad and burger by the time my salad, which was not good, even arrived. The server came by to offer us dessert and we asked where my main was. Took another 15 minutes for the kitchen to get it out and it was mediocre. The server felt bad for the mistake, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place."
