Warm rustic atmosphere, with an antiques filled decor, featuring a chef's table, a beautiful wine cellar, and main dining room. Beloved by foodies for its inventive use of the best ingredients available, il Buco is one of New York’s hidden treasures.
"Don't take a reservation for a table seating if you can't offer comfortable seating to your customers. It doesn't matter how tasty your food is it the uncomfortable seating negates the pleasure of eating there."

"The food was excellent and the decor is comfortable and cozy. For a couple that rarely vists NYC I would have dinner at Il Buco everytime we come back. There is no excuse to eat at some chain restaurant when this place exists. Some restaurants have food that tastes good, Il Buco had food that was enjoyable, fresh, and absolutely delightful."

"Our waiter was hoity, not very attentive or helpful. The food was good but portions are small and it's gotten very expensive to have a satisfying meal here."

"This is a special restaurant with good food and ambiance. The service was outstanding, in fact I mentioned that I had heartburn. The bartender brought me a special tonic that did The trick. I had the quail which was tasty and prawns. The waitress mentioned it came with shells but they were hard to get out of shell, but when I did they were very tasty. My wife had the chicken that was very tender, tasty and delightfully crispy.she also had a glass of a Portuguese wine that she said was dry and delicious."

"While the food was delicious and the sommelier was friendly helpful and informative, pairing perfectly a bottle of wine with what we were going to eat, our waiter was lights out -- terribly distracted and neither friendly, helpful nor informative. A real dud."

"5 of the 5 people at our table had an issue with the entrees; except we all LOVED the kale Caesar. Perhaps the Chef was having an off night but the dishes were not very interesting, well-seasoned, and overall very underwhelming. Restaurant came highly recommended from a fellow foodie and I hate to say I would not return for the food. The Sommelier was amazing and wine list excellent! Atmosphere was wonderful but the chairs-accommodations uncomfortable."

"Ok food. Well, more like average food. Extremely rude service with a $326.00 check and asked to leave 2 hours into our dinner because the table was reserved for another party; note that I made the reservation one month in advance. I poured my own wine from the bottle and water also. I never experiened such poor service at that price!! I will never set a foot again at Il Buco and will not recommend it to anyone I know. Extreme disappointment. I should have gone to my regular spot. NEVER AGAIN!!"

"We had been to Il Buco Alimentari for brunch and we liked it a lot so we went to Il Buco with great expectations, but unfortunately we were not very satisfied with dinner at Il Buco. The dining room upstairs is lovely, but we have been seated in the cellar downstairs, not the same thing and freezing cold! Appetizers were ok, main dishes not so great. My trout was acceptable, but my husband's pork was not edible, lot of fat and bone (I have to say that when we told them they took it out of the bill) and our friend's chicken was ok. Service was very nice and as I said before the room upstairs is great! The ricotta cake was very good!!"

"Great ambiance (small, charming, memorable), service very good but food was disappointing. We all loved our appetizers (many great options), soup and desserts but pasta dishes and entrees were not top-notch by any means and this aspect of the menu was very limited. Had heard so much about this restaurant and was expecting an all-around excellent meal so the entrees were a real let down."

"Pretentiously unpretentious. Although we had a reservation and arrived on time we, nevertheless, waited to be seated at an uncomfortable table which we shared with other diners. The server was rude, the restaurant noise level high. Food was good but not all that outstanding. It was expensive and for $100 for each person could find far more satisfying dining experiences."

"We sampled a number of the small plates and each was a delight. Kale salad and grilled octopus stood out, as well as the polenta. Wines Re pricey, wait staff informal but fun...cozy decor."

"Food was good, from very good (most appetizers, and the desserts) to just OK (surisingly to us, the pastas were just OK; the one main we had, the pork neck, was also somewhat disappointing). Bill was $400 for 4, with one bottle of wine. Wanted to love the place, but the food was just a bit underwhelming (or at least quite inconsistent)."

"The food was excellent. The sweetbreads so tender-not at all overdone, the sole was so delicate and just cooked to perfection...the vegetable accompaniment blended in beautifully with the sole and didn't overwhelm it in any way. The Calamari was likewise tender and just enough of the ink to flavour the sauce. The balsamic vinegar with the pannacotta was terrific...a lively touch to the old favourite. The Petit Arvine was a discovery for us and we both loved the delicate flavour and fragrant nose. ...Cold country whites win hands down down for me! Just hope we can find it when we return to Australia!"

"Walking into the restaurant is like walking into Tuscany. The ambiance and decor was warm and inviting, with rustic decorations. Food was great, especially the kale salad. I'd love to try more of their appetizers next time. My date had the rabbit and really enjoyed it. I had the papparadelle, which was flavorful and fresh, but nothing too out of the ordinary. The service was great. This is a very romantic spot for a date!"

"great meal, even at an off-hour. A friend told me to 'run not walk' to the restaurant and was absolutely right. HAVE to fill in a noise rating; it was quiet when I was there, but suspect that's not the norm. The three-stars for ambiance reflect the fact that it is casual and puts the emphasis on food not decor (although the obviously broken chair next to me was a little distressing)"

"It has been years since I had last eaten at Il Buca. While excited to return I had some concern that all the love (and talent) may have gone to the new Il Buco Alamentari. However that could not have been further from the truth. We were blown away with the outstanding food and service. I love eating wonderful big flavor food in a bit more casual environment. Not a typical "Italian" restaurant nor do they present themselves as such but with menu items like duck egg with truffles, Sweet breads cooked in lardo, Spag with uni. So not pretentious, relaxed, and food you can wipe the plate clean and smile while you do it. Will be back ASAP"

"We ate in the wine cellar which was very unique and very romantic. Great setting. Service was great - attentive, friendly, and never rushed. Unfortunately the food was just ok. We had the calamari appetizer which was pretty tasteless and then we both got different pasta dishes which while good, they were nothing special. So, great atmosphere but the food was pretty basic."

"I had only been to Il Buco once before and I absolutely loved it. It's been 5 or 6 years so I wasn't sure if it was going to be as good as I remembered, but it was! The food and wine was delicious, the bartender was great (we had a drink at the bar before dinner) and our server was excellent. My only complaint was that they seated us by the door so there was a draft every time someone came in, but otherwise it was lovely!"

"I'm becoming more and more disappointed with this restaurant. I've been coming here for at least 15 years. Even though the ambiance is lovely and the service generally excellent, the food is erratic. Sometimes the problem is as basic as oversalted one week and undersalted the next. And there are very few vegetarian options."

"We were celebrating my boyfriends birthday. We ordered a full four courses and were enjoying being together but we were rudely asked to move from our table to the bar before I had finished dessert and our wine pairing. It was horrible and left me feeling I'd made a poor choice for his birthday meal. Disappointing."

"Il Buco never disappoints! As usual, the kale salad and risotto were fantastic. On a Friday night, the restaurant was bustling and the bar filled with locals. While it is not inexpensive, the food and ambiance are, in our view, well worth it."
