"I have been going to kamahatchi for years at their former location. The food is always excellent and consistent. Upstairs was my favorite. It had a great vibe. The new location is great, the food is still Great and the new upstairs space is just as cool as the old one. Bravo kamahatchi"

"Hey I'm a fan too but don't leave we chasing u into the bar to pay my bill. While the food was good the portions like the roll size were smaller than I'm used to. All that said we will go back again when none of the Chicago sports teams are playing."

"This restaurant is located in an area with many restaurants and entertainment venues (Zanies Comedy Club and Second City) all within one block. The sushi and rolls are above average to very good. Individual sushi pieces are large and cost $3. The rolls could be bigger but they were tasty.. Avoid the spicy tuna roll because it has a tiny speck of tuna and too much rice. I would recommend ordering everything as "easy on the rice" as you will have more fish and more flavor. Do not get the special fish from New Zealand or wherever because it will cost 2 to 3 times as much as the regular salmon or tuna but will taste any better than the regular fish. I recommend customizing orders (more fish less rice). The sushi chefs are very good!"

"Foods are quite authentic. They have some good choices of fishes that are uncommon to be found in other Japanese restaurants. Highly recommend those daily specials. But instead of American style entree (steak, salmon, etc), I wish they could have more wasyoku (Japanese entree)"

"My wife and I have a new favorite restaurant and this is it. We love everything about this place. The decor is very comforting and the staff makes you feel like family. We were not major fans of Japanese food until now. We have dined here at least six times and have had many items on the menu. Everything has been beyond our expectations. We will return soon."

"As good or better than the old Kamehachi on Wells. This space is brighter, cleaner, and more fun.
More room and tables has really added to the experience. Now relaxed, the servers have time to explain the philosophy, the specials, and all the foods.

"I'm conflicted on this restaurant. The food was great! We had a reservation & they sat us right away in one of their little private rooms. It was really fun. However, the service was horrible. Our server would come see us & then not come back for at least 10-15 minutes. We had tickets for Second City so we wanted to leave at 10:30. We were seated at 8:30. By 9pm we still didn't have a bottle of wine. We thought that 2 hours for dinner would be plenty of time. I'm not sure if she would forget about us because we were in a room? Or she was just too busy? She was very nice, but her timing was beyond ridiculous. At 10:45 we then had to ask our bus boy to find her & bring us the check."

"We dine here regularly and love it. Last experience was just a service issue. We were going to show and informed the kind waitress of our timeline. So when the dessert menu was presented with 20 minutes to spare, we asked if that was enough time for a scoop of the special ice cream. She said yes, we paid, all good. Except that she never came back with the ice cream.....But we'll be back again soon. The food really is terrific!"

"Food was excellent, but the service was some of the worst I've encountered. Our waitress forgot to order our appetizer. We were there for 1-1/2 hours and were only asked once for a drink. We sat there for nearly 45 minutes with empty glasses and were never asked if we wanted another drink. Our food took at least 45 minutes to come out. In fact, I'm convinced that she never placed our order until we asked her what was taking so long. I normally wouldn't have cared for the delay, but my date and I had to eat in 8 minutes in order to make a show we had tickets for."

"Went here for a belated V-Day with my boyfriend. Started off with edamame and shrimp shumai. Shumai was stellar! I could have just eaten that for the meal! Ordered four rolls- Chicago Crazy, Spider, Crouching Crab, and Green Turtle (I think that's what it was called). All VERY good. Very fresh. Ended the evening with the tempura banana dessert. Really delicious. Very good wine selection. My boyfriend was really impressed with the ambience and space utilization. We will certainly be returning soon!"

"It's a lovely spot for lunch - you can have a real conversation. It'd be so much better, if staff would not immediately want to clear the table - let everyone dine and relax. Let all the diners finish before clearing the table and interrupting the conversation/business. Sushi and box sets great - oh and please bring back the yummy crab "sushi sandwich"!"

"This is one of my favorite Sushi hot-spots which is why I picked it to celebrate V-Day with my girlfriend. It was less noisy this time and very friendly servers. "I went for lunch during Restaurant week and there was a wonderful special menu with choice of starters, entrees, and desserts - very nice and all for $22. We also ordered from the regular menu, and everything was very fresh. Service was very attentive and our waitress was incredibly nice and friendly. I have been to Kamehachi's previous location at Schiller/Wells many times over many years, and always loved it. I would call the previous space more "traditional" decor-wise - this new space on Wells just south of North is more updated/modern. A very nice look. Lunch was a little quiet patron wise, thus the rating - but I look forward to returning for dinner to check out the energy."
