"Since this restaurant is housed in the arts complex ~ Hobby Center, I was expecting a mediocre experience. I WAS SO WRONG! The decor is chic, elegant and quite fun with yummy, but leather chairs, and a wonderful glassed wall that looks out over the street. The service is equally as impressive, with the waiter asking if we had a curtain time...and doing everything to ensure we met it...further, we were going to a rather unknown theater that our GPS would not locate, and when I mentioned this to Chris, the host, he took time to research the location and gave us wonderful directions!
The food was also a huge surprise. Wonderfully prepared, great presentation and a complexity of flavors that made you want to swoon!"

"In general, we enjoyed our dinner with one somewhat startling exception. We ordered iced tea, and the tea that was served was definitely not freshly brewed tea. It seemed to be from some fountain mix or possibly even "instant" tea, either way it was definitely very substandard for a restaurant such as Artista, especially in Texas."

"Very disappointed in the quality of the food considering I paid $207.20 for a dinner for 2 (no alcohol, just food and 20% tip). Lobster was mushy and steak was lukewarm. I guess just because they are right there inside the Hobby Center they think they can get away with food like that for the theater crowd. When we arrived at 5:15 there were few people in the restaurant but it was full when we left at 7pm. Our show was at 7:30pm. The appetizers were delicious as was the dessert..I think that is all this place is good for. Our server, though, was attentive and excellent."

"Charles was THE best waiter - so personable and very happy. We enjoyed him as much as the meal. Menu is a bit tired, quite limited selections. Food is good, just not much of a choice. If you're going the theatre, this is a perfect stop before (or after while the crowd clears!) I always enjoy Artista.
There was a bit of confusion when we were seated - the host took us to a location that was already occupied ... and left us standing in the middle of the restaurant while he figured out what happened.....awkward."

"We showed up on the night of our tickets, but our performance had been rescheduled for the next week. Supposedly season subscribers had been notified in October and sent replacement tickets. Not us, though.
The general manager, Jeff, took our tickets to the box office, got them replaced, along with complementary valet parking, made us reservations for the next week, and comped our desserts. The next week we discovered he'd given us the best table in the house. He remembered us and came by to visit our table and chat. Tickets are not at all the responsibility of the restaurant, but he came through for us big time.
The food both nights was, as always, exquisite. Don't miss the Buffalo Churrasco, only available on performance nights."

"Well, my date's food was outstanding. The wait staff was outstanding. My food however...they could not get it right. Nonetheless, the evening was a success. I will not bore you with the negativity. My meal ended up being comped. Everyone was happy in the end.

"This was our first visit to Artista - we were celebrating my husband's birthday. The service was great; our waiter gave several suggestions and did a great job explaining the menu and specials of the day. The skyline of downtown Houston was spectacular. My husband had the surf and turf special - steak and lobster and I had the red snapper. Both entrees were very good. We enjoyed the plantain chips that they served as soon as we were seated. The Parmesan truffle fries were also very good. It was very pricey but we enjoyed the overall experience."

"I am writing again after giving Artista a second chance following a not-so-good experience on Valentine's Day. The management, after learning of our experience via Open Table, invited us back in to try again. I must say, it was a completely different experience. The food was excellent and the service was impeccable. I had the small Churrasco steak with a lobster tail and snapper and asparagus - everything was spot on and delicious. My date had the larger Churrasco steak and the lobster tail and enjoyed it very much. The seared tuna appetizer was amazing. We also had a TresLeches cake that was divine. The waiter was attentive & even knew to replace my white linen napkin with a black one without my having to ask. We will be coming back"
