Perched high atop a granite cliff overlooking Point Lobos State Reserve, migrating whales may be seen from every table in the dining room. USA Today selected us as "One of the Top 10 Restaurants in America With a View." Sunsets here are so spectacular that the entire dining room often breaks out in spontaneous applause. Pair a bottle of Domaine Bertagna Vougeot Clos de la Perriere with our Maple Glazed Smoked Duck Breast with Duck Confit and Strawberry-Rhubarb Chutney. We have just been awarded Zagat Restaurants' Guide "Best Decor" award for the entire greater Bay Area, including Napa, San Francisco, Monterey and Carmel. Amber mica lanterns, Santa Lucia fir beams and granite boulder walls evoke the local mood of the Big Sur rugged coast and mountains. This is the premier place for a special occasion when people like to dress up, look their best, and go somewhere they shall always remember. Come delight your senses in a magical setting.

"Terrific experience - great views of the Pacific. Very attentive and helpful service. We had the crabmeat and abalone appetizers - nicely presented and tasted great. "We celebrated my parents' 50th anniversary at Pacific's Edge and it could not have been a more lovely evening. My mother's menu had a personal note from the restaurant manager on it, he came by to talk with us, the sommelier was gracious, the service impeccable and the food absolutely fabulous. The dining room hangs over the coastline, so the scenery is unbeatable. We had a range of dishes, from rack of lamb to artic char to abalone with garlic flan, and each was prepared to perfection. The "Kit Kat" dessert had emerged as the group favorite of ten days of fine dining throughout California!"

"We had high hopes for our Valentine's day return after 20 years. The atmosphere was as lovely as remembered; however the piano music we valued left at 9:00 pm. The service was really awful. Not sure if it is the kitchen or the server, but there the meal was 2.5 hours long because of delays between drinks and appetizers, and between appetizer and entree. Sadly, we will not return."

"Valentines day 2/14/10. Crowded but service was good with very little noise. Disappointed no corkage for the holiday as we brought a special bottle of wine. Would have liked to have known beforehand. Had a chocolate cake desert with a vinegar sauce that was absolutely NOT to our liking. Actually down right comical. Ordered a fantastic sorbet instead. Also had mistakes on the bill charged by the sommelier that added $60.00 to the bill. Handled quickly and correctly. We returned the next day and was also good. If you are staying there at the Highlands or the Tickle Pink Inn next door this is really the only decent option without having to drive a ways. Decent value for money spent."

"Very pricey for what you get.
To put it in perspective I have no problem ordering a nice wine with dinner. The wine list is expansive and the prices of the wine at approx 115% markup was in line with the other places we ate. On this eveing I paid $80 for a Talbot Cuve Audrey.
But the dining room was empty at our 7pm time and why ask what the occasion is, if you are not going to acknowledge it at any time. Just two days before our vist I got a confirmation call and at the time they asked was it a special occasion? Answer: yes, our honeymoon... nada nothing, not even a congratualations on the evening of the meal.
Save your money and eat lunch/brunch at the California Market (same place, one level down)."

"In the winter, show up at 5:30pm to get the ocean view / sunset. Almost every table has a great view of the ocean. Be prepared for small portions if you are a big eater (filet was 6oz). Pricey given the portions and frankly, given the AAA diamond ratings, we expected the food to be amazing (we are foodies). It was good, but not amazing. The 20oz bone-in rib-eye that we ordered "rare" came back "medium well" (not even medium rare) and had to be sent back, but they got it right the second time around. The dungeness crab had a little too much mayo for our taste, masking the natural sweetness of the crab. Perhaps we had too many great dinners back-to-back, dining at Club XIX at Pebble Beach the night before and Montrio the night before that."

"Quite a road to get to the restaurant, thank goodness for GPS. Complementary valet parking. Got a corner table overlooking the coast in two directions, excellent atmosphere. Service was very good, wine list was 62 pages but organized and categorized so it was easy to find what I was looking for. Food was very good, with variety and imagination reflected on the menu. Bread was ok, kind of mashed down in the slicing. Warm salad (with brussel sprout leaves) was good. Mains were as ordered and very competent. Deserts were well done and the pace of food delivery was perfect.
I was prepared for the prices, since they were available on their website, Overall, this was exactly what I was looking for to celebrate an anniversary."

"We had dinner there on a Saturday night and although the weather wasn't the best, we got to see a gorgeous sunset! Any table is great really, but we were lucky to get a window seat at the bottom. The staff was extremely attentive, both the Chef and the sommelier came and introduce themselves. The waiter was very attentive without hovering. Their wine list is impressive (lots of older French Burgundies, a rare find). The Chef even kindly accommodated us to a slight change on the menu. The food was delicious, promptly brought to our table directly from the kitchen. Everything was great and we had a fantatsic dinner. We would highly recommend for foodies and special occasions."

"I was really looking forward to taking my new bride to the restaurant for what I hoped was an unforgettable dining experience. I must tell you truthfully we were greatly disappointed. While to hostess was pleasant upon greating us. Once we were seated the service was ok nothing great and the food quite frankly was nothing to write home about. My Sea Bass was dry and my wife's ravioli mushroom dish was mediocre at best. While the wine list was impressive...I was not about to drop over a hundred bucks (on the cheap side) on a bottle of wine. And finally I know you probably get alot of people celebrating "special occassions" at your establishment...One more thing when we went for our car we had to wait in the cold for at least 10 minutes!!"

"Our dining experience at Pacific's Edge was a delightful experience. We were ushered to our table upon arrival and greeted by our server, George. After asking some questions about the menu, we ordered and had a great meal of sturgeon and beef. Only having wine by the glass, the Cab selection complimented the beef perfectly. I had a wonderful starter of Black Truffle Rissoto and enjoyed it thoroughly. My only regret is that we arrived in a blinding rainstorm after dark and could not appreciate what looks to be a tremendous view. We will be back in the summer when we will take in the view and the top-notch food & service."

"Saturday evening dinner, which would have been perfect, was notably marred by a very loud band/DJ (wedding) on the floor below the dining area. The manager came around and apologized to all the dining guests, which was polite, but the noise was very intrusive, drowning out the quiet jazz from the live band in the next room, and thumping the floor with the bass. The food was delicious, and the service was good. During the daylight, I'd imagine the views are amazing. Valet parking was complimentary. There's a very extensive wine list. For the expense and quality of this restaurant, however, the noise level was really unacceptable (and I'm not super-fussy). I recommend inquiring whether there's such a function before making your reservation."

"We were very disappointed with our New Year's Eve celebration at Pacific's Edge. The service was unprofessional for a $500 per couple evening. The table attendant said "Thank You" after every item we ordered. The wine steward ignored us once we decided on ordering wine by the class (others ordered cocktails). We were given gift bags that looked like they came from Wal-Mart. The band was so bad we didn't stay for even one dance. The menu was good----small plates, but I'm not sure worth the $175 charged per person. It was not the standard we expected from this once fine restaurant. We didn't have a good table, but the trees were lighted for part of the dinner. Then, suddenly, they went dark. It gave us the feeling it was time to move on."

"By far the best restaurant on the California coast! Everything from the spectacular view and the warm and efficient service to the perfectly prepared food were beyond what we expected. We were instantly put at ease knowing that everything would be taken care of by our professional (rare these days) server. The flavors and textures were beautifully matched in every dish we ordered (warm pear tart salad, butternut squash soup, seared scallops, new black forest cake, "KitKat" chocolate hazelnut cake). Review 41 for Pacific's Edge Restaurant
Overall Rating

"Outstanding find--top rated views and top rated food- how can you go wrong? Great location in Carmel and easy to get to ...valet parking included at n/c... The large windows in the seated-bar area are terrific and the bar menu alone would be worth the trip. A minor complaint is that after the sun goes down...the lights in the restaurant reflect on the inside glass, thus cutting down the enjoyment of the view--since the resort has invested in lighting to illuminate the hills below, perhaps they can get a more non-reflective glass to enjoy the wonderful scenery. Worth repeat visits!"

"Excellent fare; portions could be considered a little small by "modern" American standards, but were actually quite sufficient unless you're a true glutton. The view, overlooking the Pacific just south of Point Lobos, is truly magnificent. We timed our dinner to coincide with sunset, and it was the high point of our Christmas."

"We have eaten at Pacific's Edge a number of times over the years and this time was disappointing. Our server wasn't knowledgeable, each of our four courses was delivered to the wrong diner, the food was not hot, and we had to specifically ask our sever if we could order more cocktails. Pacific's Edge has always been a top dining destination for "foodies", yet this visit left me feeling cold (literally...it was FREEZING) and it is unlikely we will return."

Review 48 for Pacific's Edge Restaurant
Overall Rating

"I thought that Pacific's Edge would be a great place to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday - but I was wrong. The food was fine - day boat scallop appetizer was perfect, salmon was nicely prepared but rather naked, pasta dish was something an Italian grandma would feed the grandkids - hardly consistent with the California cuisine. The problem was the birthday celebration - or lack thereof. When we were seated, my wife was presented with a menu signed by the manager - so far, so good. However, that was the first and last time that there was any indication that this might be a special dinner. The waiter was abrupt, never offered a special dessert or even wished my wife a happy birthday. I cannot recommend this restaurant for special occasions"

"If you are looking for a perfect place for a special occasion, this is the place. The food is definitely excellent, and being Italian, I am quite attentive to details in food preparation & presentation. I had goat cheese fritters, rack of lamb, and a cheese selection as dessert. The wine list is a joy to go through, and you need to take your time there as it's a book! I ordered a rombauer merlot that was simply delicious. I found the ambiance very elegant and the personnel very friendly and knowledgeable. They also helped to make the evening a special one."

"After suffering through one of the worst dining experiences in my long life at this restaurant 3 years ago on New Year's Eve, I swore to never return -- but I'm glad I did because this time it was a very good experience for my party of four. The service was solicitous, but not intrusive, and the food and wine were quite good. Of course, the setting is exceptional. The restaurant was nearly empty, so the trick may be to avoid busy times. Also, I recommend you consider having a root canal rather than subject yourself to a New Year's Eve party here. Not only will that be more fun, it will be less expensive."

"Very good overall.
Friendly, helpful staff --even during a busy holiday. Nice ambiance --recommend getting there for the sunset, it is quite a good view.
Food was quite good, but not excellent. It seemed to us that several different dishes seemed to use more or less the same seasonings or spices, we did not think this best; the food presentations were excellent.
The service overall was quite good. However, I was surprised that neither our server nor our table assistant sought to clear crumbs or small debris off the table between courses -or at anytime. At some good dining sites this is done throughout, others seem to make this effort between the end of the main course and dessert. But here it was lacking."

"We were seated 20 minutes late on the first seating of the day, we we're 3rd in line. Server forgot our drinks and didn't bring them till after the first course arrived, given a tiny, (REALLY TINY0 piece of bread, I guess it was all they had. Our orders were confused or wrong when they came to the table, our deserts were wrong and the server made no attempt to correct the error"

"I was disappointed with the experience as a whole this time due to mediocre food and subpar service. Our last time here was fantastic, but this last time left a bad taste in our mouth. Since this is an expensive place to dine, and typically an "occasion" meal, we'll probably look elsewhere for our next time, perhaps Fresh Cream."

"Possibly one of the best 'views' on the coast of California. But, regrettfully have to say that the food was dissapointing. We had Thanksgiving dinner there with friends and the limited menu was not that great. Had much higher expectations based upon previous visits. More surprisingly, the service was generally poor. They brought our desserts then shortly thereafter brought the check. My wife reminded me that they never stopped by to ask if we wanted coffee after dinner. I wouldn't have noticed - but she is an 'after dinner coffee' drinker. We'll probably go back - but, that was 'strike one'"

"Every occasion is a special occasion at Pacific's Edge. Our Thanksgiving dinner was decidedly non-traditional, but one of the best dinners we've ever had. Food this good and original and thoughtfully designed and prepared is rare to find. Yes, it's pricey, but worth every penny.
As incredible as the food is, the setting is just as special. Wonderful views of the Carmel Highlands, elegant decor, and an attentive and helpful staff.
We've been to Pacific's Edge once before this holiday meal, and we will be back again."

"The service wasn't as good as we remembered in our prior visits. When seated, the table was set for three when our reservations were for two. There was also a high chair so the table was obviously not for us. Our waiter was not very attentive and we seemed to be his only table in the area. The food was very good and the wine was great."
