"Always looking for new places to eat near theatre district. This is a great new find for us even though restaurant has been open for more than thirty years. They were very aware of getting us in and out in time and soft shell crabs were done perfectly. Nice wine selections and specials."

"We went for a pre-theater dinner on a Saturday night. Our waiter was new. It didn't go well. He did not know the menu. He got orders wrong. One side dish never came. . I've eaten here before and will give it another chance because of its location but I was extremely disappointed."

"Most pre-show dinners have a buffet line vibe. Not this one. I had the beet and goat cheese salad to start. It was perfectly dressed and absolutely delicious. The orange segments were a bright touch and balanced the dish. For my main course I had the pork chop. It was well seasoned and every bite was tender and juicy and not at all undercooked. What more can you ask for? You absolutely cannot eat here without trying the truffle mac and cheese. You'll lick the plate when no one's looking. Can't wait to go back when I can stay for dessert! The selection was incredibly tempting but the Divine Miss M was about to take the stage and we had to run."

"you would think that a 5:45pm dinner reservation would get you out in time for a 7:30 curtain call across the street..........I think the waiters need hearing aids..........mentioned several times before ordering dessert we had time contraints......... no problem, dessert came at 7:15............ the week before we were 6 and had a great time, the waitress had asked before dinner if we were going to the theater and what time did we need to be there...........we were out of there by 7:00, in time to pick up our tixs and relaxed before show time. Too stressful............."

"So why stop just because I moved to N.C.? I go nearly every time I come back to NYC.... this visit displayed all the things I love about the West Bank Cafe....really friendly staff, terrific food. I had something I rarely have anymore; a cheddar cheese burger...perfectly medium rare and the beef truly tasty. It also side-stepped a pet peeve of mine, it was not too big or stuffed with things to be able to eat like a polite person in public....and I did not end up wearing it!
This place is rightfully packed, especially now that 42nd St. Is the new Theatre Row. After 8pm it quiets down for a couple of hours, for a time frame that allows you to linger.....I have no reason not to keep loving this terrific place!"

"The tarragon chicken lunch special was outstanding. The salads, ravioli and desserts were above average. Our server was professional, but the pacing of the courses and the time it took to get through a simple lunch was unfortunate. Perhaps 10 min to get water, another 10 min to get some bread. After ordering, perhaps 10-15 min to get our salads. Main courses arrived after another 15 minute wait. Dessert course was really slow in coming out of the kitchen. And all this while the restaurant was very slow...... only a few tables of customers. One of our party had scheduled a 1:30 meeting nearby, assuming he'd have plenty of time, given our noon reservation. He had to leave in a hurry after dessert barely arrived."

"We have eaten here often, before the theater and after. The food is usually quite good and the service as well. On Fri. night, speaking only fer myself of three, the entree (salmon) was passably good, but the salad was limp and the greens old. I know that there was difficulty with one person's dessert order, not only in terms of the kitchen not being able to make it(it was on the menu) but also the server's ability to make the problem comprehensible. Service in general was not good. It may just have been an off night all around."

"We had been fans for some time, but the food has degenerated into the "tourist theater fare" that we have tried to escape. The freshness is missing and the idea that quantity can trump quality has emerged. The service was both rushed and wanting (entree came while we were eating our appetizers - the waitress was pleasant but unhelpful). I do not know why the chef thought that mixing marinara with pesto would be appetizing, but it is not. Further, if you would like to have a vegetarian option, why not saute the spaghetti squash in olive oil, rather than butter, so that the dish could possibly be vegan? (And taste better.)"

"As soon as the lunch/theater rush was over, the noise level diminished to low. Since we were a group of five with nowhere to go following lunch, we sat for a very, very long time catching up on our lives. The staff was most accepting of our prolonged presence allowing us the luxury of being comfortable and welcomed. Since we have eaten here before, it is our number one reason for return visits."

"This is a perfect restaurant choice for people attending the theaters on 42 nd Street. The salads were great and the mussels perfectly prepared. This will be our first choice when returning to that area. Make your lunch reserrvation well in advance on matinee days. It is very popular!"
