"The food was excellently prepared and the greeting by the chef during our meal was a nice touch. The expectations were as high as the menu prices, but overall they were met."

"Once again an amazing meal on Mother's Day. Chef Chevalier is a master. Mussel appetizer was perfectly cooked and delicious, wild duck, lamb and halibut entries were beautifully prepared. Perfect wine pairing, and an evening topped with two delicious desserts. A night to remember."

"The special menu for Mother's Day was great with many choices depending on your mood. There were many tempting appetizers; I had the duck liver mousse and my husband had the salad with warm goat cheese. Both, were excellent choices. I enjoyed the risotto and halibut and my husband had the lamb for our main courses. Then we split the cheese plate in place of dessert. Everything tasted good! We have enjoyed this restaurant for many years and can always recommend it knowing that our friends will enjoy it too."

"This was our first time dining at Chevalier. We very much enjoyed the whole experience. We dined on the outside patio on a warm evening and it was delightful along with the service provided by our waiter. We both ordered the crab salad first course and lamb sirloin special which was very good. We had their signature dessert, the Grand Marnier Soufle, which was good but we both agreed we have had better (the sauce was too light on Grand Marnier). Our overall impression was good and we will dine at Chevalier again."

"My wife and I have been coming here regularly for the last 2 years. Philippe does an amazing job to create unique dishes that are perfect for the foodie! I had an amazing crab salad and a well portioned beef tenderloin in a delicious demi glaze. You must finish with the creme brulee!
The personal touch service makes you feel so welcome - highly recommend!"

"I think that many of the reviewers here have low standards. While the food was ok, the Filet in black truffle sauce was of mediocre quality, and portions were on the small side. Prices are approaching those of La Folie, and to that place, there is no comparison! Drive north and both Bouchon and Jeanty are far better."

"We were lucky to dine outdoors on a perfect evening. The prix fixe meals were delicious. Escargots, salad, skirt steak, chicken, creme brûlée and another light dessert made up our excellent dinners. The patio seating was beautiful."

"We hosted a 50th birthday party and the accomodations and food were outstanding as always. Chef Philippe was so warm and personable. He came to our table numerous times to make sure everything was perfect. Nick the head waiter is outstanding. He knows how to treat their customers so that they feel they are the only ones in the resturante. Would recommend to any and all."

"this was our first visit ot Chevalier. We went on a warm night allowing us to sit outdoors in their large patio area under a canopy of trees. The food was classic French, very well prepared and tasty. Service was a bit slow I think because they were very crowded Saturday evening and the staff and kitchen was no doubt stretched to the max. But all servers were friendly, helpful, proficient, and we didn't mind the wait as the evening was so beautiful and the noise level was low enough to allow for good conversation with our friends at the table for 4. We'll be coming back here again!"

"I've lived in the Lamorinda area for two years now, but only recently heard about Chevalier. And what a great find it ended up being! My wife and I were celebrating her birthday and simply had a wonderful dining experience. The menu was authentic, the preparation delicious and the service a delight. The wine list was diverse, but fits just about any budget. It was a chilly evening so no alfresco dining, however we noticed a good deal of outdoor seating which must be terrific during warm evenings. Chevalier is not an every day dining spot, but it the best French food I know of outside the City and a neighborhood gem without compare."

"Chevalier, chef-owned, is a very French restaurant with a refined atmosphere and great food. There is an excellent menu of classic French dishes and always a couple of blackboard specials. When we dined, these consisted of saddle of lamb and fresh halibut, both excellent. Other dishes included escargot in shell with butter parsley and garlic and lobster bisque. There is also a very interesting cocktail menu and a wine list containing a good variety of French wines. Outdoor patio dining is available. Service is competent, gracious, friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Dishes are pricy, but there is always a 3 course pix-fixe menu, an extraordinary value at $39. And Chef Chevalier was just named to the Best Chefs of America."

"We love French food and great wines! Chevalier is as close to a fine dining experience in Paris as we have found in the San Francisco Bay Area. AND, it is a little gem tucked away in Lafayette, California. We can't wait for our next occasion that allows us to walk in their doors."

"New additions to the menu are fabulous! The monkfish stew was so light, yet so flavorful. Full of such fresh seafood. Rabbit terrine and tuna filet are just a few of the new items. Can't wait to come back to try them all!"

"I enjoyed my $39 fixed priced dinner except that the burgundy sauce on my skirt steak was thin and unseasoned. The salad that came with the dinner was very good."

"I had filet of sole. The piece of fish I got was sparse and looked like it came from Safeway-nothing special. Also, for the entree price there were no vegetables. Just mashed potatoes. How costly could it b to add a nice vegetable? Also, our table for two was tiny and no leg room. Reminded me of an end table for a couch. They need to toss it. On the other hand the apple tartin (?) for dessert was very good."

"Wonderful experience. We have lived in the LaMOrinda are for over 15 years and have never been. I can't speak as to whether the restaurant is good for groups as it is rather intimate, however, it looks like they have a tented outdoor area that could be used as a large group space."

"The portions were bigger than expected for a French restaurant--I prefer small portions. The rabbit stew was a little dissappointing--too rich and I couldn't finish it. The appetizers were wonderful as were the desserts.
I would try it again."

"Food is tops, as are the wonderful French wines. Love the ambiance, authentic French food. Finished our meal with both the Grand Marnier and Chocolate Souffles...we had forgotten about these fabulous desserts until a beautiful one passed by our table. Order it when you order your appetizer. You won't regret it!"
