"One of the top places to have Brunch in Pittsburgh. The note I made on Open Table regarding my Mother-In-Law's birthday resulted in a dessert with candle being brought without prompting by the wait staff."

"My wife and I went to Grand Concourse with high expectations, which came crashing down sooner than expected. The buffet was spread out nicely in different sections. The positives were the pastries and confectionaries like Banana Bread, Muffins, Cinnabons and the oh-so-yummy freshly made Donuts! Then came the downer. A place that screws up breakfast staples like Omlettes and Pancakes does not deserve a mention, far less a rating. Our "made-to-order" omlettes hit the new low in culinary craftsmanship and were paper thin, made of RAW tomatoes, onions & mushrooms. The pancakes and french toast were stale and unappealing, to say the least. Go try Coca's Cafe in Lawrenceville for a more satisfyig experience, where u REALLY get make-to-order BF!"

"I was surprised by the moderate quality of food and service. On top of that, we were seated right next to a large, noisy party- even though there was ample space further away.
Given the menu prices and the overall quality of the dishes (we had two fish dishes, their specialty), this restaurant is clearly overpriced."

"When we arrived there was a long line waiting to be seated. We had a reservation and were about 15 minutes late being seated. The food lines were fairly long and the space pretty crowded.

Yet the experience was overall excellent. The food was very good, the service was outstanding, and the ambiance was remarkable.

We'll come back."

"Outstanding! The portions weren't huge, which I personally think is a good thing. The prices were what they should have been. Amazing building. Very friendly staff to include the valet. If you want a more romantic environment make sure you request the room next to the river. Easily the best seafood restaurant that I've ever been to."

"The experience was a romantic special occasion, as well as our first time at the establishment. Although the food was good, I feel it isn't very appetizing if you will to have to pay seperate for a salad when an entree is ordered;that should be included. After all most resturants don't ala carte the salads. I feel it is part of a meal. It really almost added $20 more dollars to our meal.. Because of that I spared having a drink. Thank You."

"We met friends that we only get together with once a year, and we have chosen the Grand Concourse because we always have such a great experience there. The one thing we really appreciate is that we never feel rushed to leave. We enjoy the ambiance, and just enjoy sitting and visiting after a fabulous dinner. This is one of the few places you can go and feel like your not getting chased out. We'll be back."

"The Grand Concourse is a Landmark and a real gem to our city. It would be a shame to lose this establishment to the long list of Pittsburgh restaurants that close their doors due to low volume sales. That could easily happen as the food is fair the service was fair at best and the overall dining experience does not measure up tho the grandeur of the decor. I wish I could be saying the opposite, but these are the facts."

"We regularly select this restaurant for the reliable quality food and relaxing atmosphere. The piano playing background contributes to the ambiance. We appreciate the periodic changes in wine selections so that we can try new ones from time to time and in any price range. Our favorite salad is the Martha's Vineyard, with our without the blue cheese! This time I tried the Lobster ala Francaise, which is a parmesan encrusted lobster tail. I would definitely get it again - and that may prompt a quicker return to this restaurant."

"Visited the restaraunt in the evening on Valentines Day 2010, we were seated quickly and did not have to wait long for our server. Our server was very attentive and happily told us about the specials. Dinner was very tasty and the salad was very fresh. The valet was quick and courteous. A pleasant coatroom attendant. No complaints and we will be returning for future occasions."

"On a very busy Valentine's Day we were seated very close to our reservation time. Our waiter was attentive, but not obtrusive. "We had a great experience on Valentine's Day, although the place was busy and it was noticeable in the quality we experienced in the food preparation. I've been to the Grand Concourse before, and I ate the same dish at some point in the past. It was much better the last time, although everything else was up to par. You are definitely paying more for the ambiance, although on a lower profile evening the food is better."

"Our dining experience was fantastic! Our server was a young gentleman who commented that he also is a wedding photographer, I cannot recall his name. There was a couple next to us that had complained about him and their experience to the manager, but they were just miserable and their complaints were not valid. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was quite, comfortable, and romantic."

"The brunch was very typical - lots of choices of ordinary food. I was surprised that so many serving dishes were empty or near empty during the height of the brunch buffet. The staff seemed indifferent on many levels. Our waiter apparently felt that buffet meant seat them and disappear. We asked several other wait staff for service since ours was missing. When pointing out that there were no plates at one station, I was told to walk to another station to get one rather than supplying them where they were needed. The ambiance is wonderful and the building a real gem, but what was going on inside needed much help. A real disappointment."

"The atomosphere continues to be one of the best in Pittsburgh. Our waiter really tried to please us and his professionalism made the brunch for us.

There were clearly more people eating the buffet than the staff were ready to keep up with. The platters were often empty or picked over and lacked appeal. The food quality was good but not exceptional."

"You really can't beat the ambiance of this place. The food was good, though my wife didn't care for the petit fillet from her surf and turf. My salmon oscar was good. You have to try their cashew encrusted Brie! Best appetizer I've had in a while.

Service was good, not intrusive, courses spaced appropriately with plenty of time to talk... dining vs. eating if you know what I mean.

Be sure to ask on your reservations that you request the main dining room if you want the full effect of this beautiful building."

"The Chicken Fresca was soooo, so good. The room by the river was sooooo, so awesome. The wine list was great and we absolutely loved the piano player too. Our waitress was very nice. We loved the old building and would love to go upstairs and see the whole place. I'd love to live up there in a condo unit. Are there any available? We love to come back in the summer to the Gandy Dancer. What a nice spot they have."

"Always a treat to visit this historic restaurant, especially for their incredible Sunday brunch buffet. The price has increased a bit since our last visit but we had a Friends voucher that saved us $25. The array of brunch treats is great -- you can skip the stuff you don't like or care about and still can't try everything! Nice fish dishes, prime rib is OK but a bit too rare, some desserts are better than others, pianist who seems to know every show tune ever written! Fun way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday!"

"The service and quality of the Grand Concourse has gone down hill. I was there with friends to celebrate a special occasion as I have done many times over the years. I can't say any of us would choose this as a special destination. It's still fine as a local restaurant---but not special anymore. The grilled fish clearly wasn't grilled. I had to ask 3 times for a knife; twice for bread. I was not offered lemon or sweetener for my tea without asking for it. Our plates were sloppy; not at all nicely arranged and no garnish. We had a slow moving person with a cane in our group and the hostess ran so fast to a very remote table that I had to run back and get my friend myself!"

"The evening I had planned at the Grand Concourse, did not turn out as planned. It was my mothers 65th birthday, and my husbands 30th birthday, so needless to say it was a special occasion. I called a week in advance to make some requests for the reservation, one of them being desert for the birthday people. Apparently they weren't capable of doing this, even though they said they would, so even after speaking to the manager, they still didn't bring out the desert. He claimed that they didn't do complimentary desert, and I explained that I called a week in advance and told them to charge me whatever it costs. Either way, the service was poor and not in the least bit impressive if you are trying to make it feel like a special ocassion."

"I've been here a few times, but for others in my party it was their first visit. They were simply amazed at the amount of selection for Sunday Brunch and the quality of the food is second to none.

The price $23.99 for brunch is a great value. My advice though: Give yourself at least 2 hours for the experience...we tried to do it in 90 minutes and felt rushed. You spend a lot of time going up in line to sample the food that it takes away from time at the table.

Oh and definitely try the homemade donuts. They're amazing and worth it even if you're limiting sweets."

"Was extremely disappoited with both food and wait staff. Have never encountered these problems here. Steak was overcooked..sent it back and second was almost as bad. Waiter wasn't into his job, perhaps because was holiday. I doubt I'll return."

"I made reservations for several WEEKS in advance, I specifically requested to be seated in the main diining room. I called a few days in advance and again wanted to ensure seating in the main room - I was told that they may not be possible but they would try. We arrived 90 minutes early and again requested the main dining room- again I was told that seating occurs as patrons arrive. At 8:00 we were to be seated, NOT in the main dining room - after much discussion with manager they amazingly found a table in main dining room. Not how I planned to spend Chriatmas Eve-fighting with restaurant staff. Atmosphere was beautiful, food okay, service mediocre, overall not worth the agrivation. Won't be back. Bar was great - both service and food!"

"The food at the Grand Concourse was fantastic, the view of Pittsburgh stunning as usual. We go here every Christmas as a destination event for friends to get together. It was a very enjoyable and fun time. We had a wait staff that was below the usual excellence for the restaurant. The waiter, a young man, not the usual older professional men, made mistakes on our orders, forgot to bring drinks, coffee, etc. He was trying, but has a ways to go. Mgt tried to correct by picking up our desserts and apologized several times. Other than that, all was excellent."

"Excellent service, great food, outstanding views, what more can I say except the following comment. During our most recent visit we met a friend and his wife who were in town visiting his family for the holidays. My wife and I have had dinner here man times and were always impressed with the variety of main course offerings. However, a note of caution with regard to the current menu, if you are not a seafood lover you might be in trouble. They offer a limited number of chicken, pasta, and beef dishes. This was not a problem for my wife and I and fortunately it was not a problem for the other couple. Aside from this, we enjoyed an excellent meal, never felt rushed, and agreed we would be returning."

"Grand Concourse had an awesome Sunday Brunch! Price was reasonable considering the variety. Food was refilled promptly. Wait staff (Jeremy and Chris) were awesome! We sat in the outer area with a view of downtown, which was great. Next time we'd like to sit inside the main dining room and enjoy the interior view as well as the piano player, which I enjoyed as we got our food each time. The antique donut machine was really neat and the donuts were yum! :) Highly recommended."

"Ask for the River Room and instead was seated by the piano and could not hear my quest talk!! Just too loud!!! Arrived at 1:00 p.m. and a lot of the dishes were empty and needed refilled. The waffles were had as a rock. I have been here many times, three times in the last two months, but this was the worst I have ever seen it. They didn't live up to the standard you become to expect."

"Our overall experience was very good. The food was delicious, and the service was very good. For some strange reason, there was no bread, which we enjoy with dinner, until our dinner was more than half over. Also, they did not carry the ingredients for my favorite Pomegranate Martini. The dinner portions were generous, not so generous when it came to dessert. The view of the river was amazaing as the lights glistened off of the newly fallen snow. It was neat to see the horse and carriage going across the Smithfield Street Bridge, and the boats and trains. The valet parking team was extremely courteous, as well."

"Everything was good. The only comment I have is, not enough time allowed between courses to relax, I felt rushed. The atmosphere and the price should allow you to relax an enjoy! "We love going to the Grand Concourse for special occasions. My family and I have made a point to go during the Holiday Season each year for the last 20 years. This year did not disappoint! I love dining in the open dining room or the back room with the view of the beautifully decorated city. The pianist played lively Christmas tunes and it really put us into the spirit of the season. "I had to give a overall poor rating to this restaurant and that was do to the large group we were seated next to.
The food and service were great. Unfortunately the group was holding more of a social function than a sit down dinner. People were standing right over my shoulder and when staff and others from the party would try to pass by they would kick and bump my chair.
This totally ruined the evening.
Managers were even passing by and nothing was done even after bringing this to the waiters attention."

"our experience was fantastic as always..My Sister, husband and brother in law all share Dec. birthdays, as do I. so it has been for the last 3 years that we celebrate all of our b-days together in this one brunch. Of course the food is and always was fantastic, so is the company of us 4. next year we plan to add more of my sisters and their hubbies even though none of them r dec. birthdays..but after hearing of the fantastic food that the Concourse offers, we will be getting a reservation for 8 (or more) next year. Thanks for making our Dec. Birthdays more fun and enjoyable."

"The Thanksgiving buffet at the Grand Concourse is always one of the highlights of the holiday season. Make your reservations early as the restaurant fills up prior to Thanksgiving and they don't have room for walk-ins.

Sunday Brunch at the Grand Concourse is among the best in the Pittsburgh area.

The seafood here is always superb. The service is first rate. You can enjoy the view of the city from the River Room, or the ambience of a beautiful turn of the century railway station in the main dining room. I always bring out of town visitors here for dinner."

"The Thanksgiving buffet at the Grand Concourse was excellent. However, we had to wait 60 MINUTES to be seated (yes, we DID have a reservation.). The lobby area was too small as other patrons would not move and stepped on your toes and constantly bumped into you. You had to STRAIN to listen for your name to be called. You would think at $30/person that the GC would be able to afford to rent a sound system for the day to announce names of patrons to seat. I went last year and did not encounter the mess that I did this year. For that reason, we will never go back to the GC for any holiday buffet. It made for a very miserable experience."

"My party enjoyed Thanksgiving at the Grand Concourse. We were seated just 20 minutes after our 2:15 reservation which was nice. We were seated in the section with the windows over looking the river and city skyline. The wait wasn't too long. The salad selections and hot foods were very good. The fish was great. The desserts were not that great. The pies didn't have much taste and the cookies were a disappointment.
I would recommend the experience to anyone. Thank you."

"Thanksgiving dinner was an excellent value for the price. Dressing and sweet potato recipes weren't my favorite (dressing was too moist and sweet potatoes had marshmallows instead of being carmelized). Staff was keeping up with foods being available, although at times the buffet lines were long. Drinks were not refreshed in a timely manner, but all in all was a good experience."

"The dining experience was terrible. We had reservations at 5:00 and were seated at 5:50. The atmosphere was noisy and chaotic. Anytime you got up to go somewhere, you were fighting crowds. The food was just okay - definately not worth the wait. I will not go to the Grand Concourse again."

"We were married at the Grand Concourse 22 years ago and have always enjoyed returning there for our anniversary - this year not so much. The hostess was rude, the waitress assigned to our table when we arrived didn't know what she was doing, and then never returned even before our meal was served. From that point forward we never had an offical waiter/waitress and were, for the most part roundly ignored. The food was less than extraordinary - but the prices hadn't been adjusted to reflect that. A very disappointing experience, one we probably won't be tempted to relive next year. Such a shame. Good luck in this economy."

"They did have a little trouble keeping up with the buffet. But if you missed something you just got it on the next go round. I heard some complaints about the prime rib being undercooked but mine was to my liking. The only other complaint was that they were about 45 minutes behind on seating patrons with reservations. Service was good considering how large and busy this restaurant is on holidays. The food was great and the decor is gorgeous. I really enjoyed my Thanksgiving at the Grand Concourse and will likely make reservations for future holiday dinners."

"I was really impressed with the Grand Concourse. We had to wait a while for our table (50 minutes past reservation time), but the wait was definitely worth it! The Thanksgiving buffet was amazing; I would imagine that the regular menu is even better. There were a lot of choices on the buffet, and everything was delicious. The staff was wonderful and very friendly. I would definitely go back for the Thanksgiving dinner or to try the regular menu."

"The food, wine, and historic atmosphere was fantastic! They met our reservation time, and had a clean table with a city view waiting for us. Overall we had a great time, but service was a little slow. Their was a large private party going on in the main concourse room so I'm sure they were quite busy catering to them. We personally didn't mind, but another couple who might have been on a tighter schedule may not have been too happy."

"Very noisy.. Took away from the expensive meal. Expected the prices as I have been there before but when the waiter shouts behind most of us to be heard it was not worth the price. I would not describe a rating of noise as energetic. Very distracting should be your negative responce category. Great Chilean Sea Bass.They dont even let you send a note of any substance. Restaurant closed in main area for party. Put in back terrace area going through party prep area for seating . Not evern close to worth the price because of that. Food did howver taste great, but other negatives made it a very unpleasant time."

"I've been to the Grand Concourse for dinner and have always been pleased. They have a wonderful fresh fish selection and some great ways to prepare these items. "I had blackened salmon and it melted in my mouth. My wife had the shrimp Diane and loved it as usual. She always gets this dish. I still do not understand the small glasses of wine. Fill her up.
