"We had a large party with a wide age range ( 8 months ~ 77 years old ) and all were beautifully accommodated. The brunch buffet was well filled ( both volume and variety ), and we took advantage of the made to order omelets. Good quality food, nice jazz combo ambience, and EXCELLENT service. Attentive without being obsequious. Helpful and not condescending. We really enjoyed our experience."

"The food at the Gandy Dancer was once the best in Ann Arbor, now it is below the Main St. restaurants with which it competes. The entrees have become nothing special and ordinary and the service was very slow. There were no female staff seen which is very unusual.This was once a favorite restaurant for special occasions, now we will not go back."

"We went for the first time during restaurant week. We were very underwhelmed with our service and quality of the food. The fish was pretty tasteless and the rice was a big heaping throw-away. For their typical prices, I was expecting much more. They brought out my entree before I was even halfway done with my salad. The chocolate cake was good at least."

"While I enjoyed the building's design and decoration, there were a few details that detracted from the experience. I sat with a larger party at a round table near the kitchen with plain view of the train. One detail that took away from the entire experience was the table itself. It was not a sturdy or strong table and would shake and bend towards you if you placed any weight on it (such as cutting your food). Upon further examination, the table was made of a pressboard. I would have enjoyed my experience, enough to recommended it to my friends, if the table wasn't so flimsy. With the table I had, I couldn't enjoy my experience and was disappointed with what I thought would be a better than average dining night."

"Very courteous valet. Our group of 4 had a 12:30PM "working lunch" and were seated right away. The on-line reservation tool was appreciated. Our wait staff was punctual, informative and pleasant. The food portions were very satisfying and kudos to the chef for beautiful presentations. We sat next to a window by the railroad tracks and witnessed two trains going by; and found the "ringing of the bell" amusing. We were able to conduct our conversations at a comfortable level, without distraction from surrounding "murmur" and thus felt our voices weren't an annoyance either. Since nothing is perfect, the only fault is that we reminded the wait staff for a 2nd basket of (yummy!) bread/rolls, after she had offered to bring us some."

"The server was outstanding and the surrounding employees were inviting and everything else that surrounding workers should be. I had the surf n turf and my wife had the seafood trio and her entire plate was poorly prepared.. She got a side of the shrimp scampi dish and the shrimp was very chewy and under seasoned.. Seemed to be only doused in butter. She found all of the items of the trio to be below average. We love seafood and get it almost everywhere we can. The best part of both of our meals was my steak, compliments. For a great restaurant of this caliber and reputation the food was definitely below average. Maybe it was because of the late reservation or as the title states we may have "caught the chef on a bad day"."

"Loved the building. The service was very good. We had lobster tail and a New York strip. The tail was cold and the steak overlooked after a very long wait. The manager did come and offer to rectify our issues very politely and the waiter was very apologetic. There are so many good restaurants in Ann Arbor, they need to do better than a great building and resting on their laurels."

"two out of three meals were good....I had the pasta pagliara, and was to oily. ate the seafood, which I thought was scimpy...could have had more shrimp than 2 and more scallops that 2....took the pasta home and put red sauce over it.....the other two meals, which were salmon and chicken, were great......desserts were also great......I will go back, and would recommend, but just won't order the pagiara anymore......I come from florida every year in june and come here, for my birthday, this was the first time I was disappointed with my meal..."

"Decided to go at the last minute for our anniversary dinner. Didn't get a great table, but that isn't surprising considering I made the reservation an hour before the reserved time. The table was more than adequate for our needs. Josh was our server and was very attentive. He made solid recommendations on an entree for me and I wasn't disappointed. After I came home and reviewed a number of reviews I saw one review where Josh did not please that reviewer. I can say that Josh was on his game for this reviewer and I would be delighted if he waited on our table again in the future. All in all, the Gandy Dancer lived up to its reputation. We loved the great food and great atmosphere."

"I took my mom here for Mother's day. They have an upper balcony area which is where we were sat. There were two waiters there and neither were very attentive. I do not spend big money on food often so I was a bit disappointed in the service. The food was really good but with us being upstairs and them being out of some of the items I did not taste all that I wanted to."

"I had a special evening with my special woman. Tim was an amazing waiter. Valet parking was easy and stress free. The food was good. As an added bonus, I saw a ghost while I was there. Pretty cool experience. I will never forget."

"Wanted to dine there for years, finally did for 10 yr anniversary. They did not disappoint. Dinner was fantastic, service impeccable, and atmosphere very unique and upscale. Highly recommended. Husband felt the cappuccino was best he had this side of Atlantic."

"Considering all the effort that goes into making Gandy Dancer a destination eatery, more attention should be paid to REFINING the offerings and service. Gandy is fair in most ways, not great. The bill can total more than $100 for dinner for two with 1 appetizer, 1 shared salad, 2 entrees, 3 glasses of wine, no dessert and 1 coffee. Appetizer calamari has flavor but needs a coconut rice to absorb the spices. The porterhouse was a bummer, it had a strong char and still pink on the inside; I ordered it med-well. I didn't send it back but should have. Bouillabaisse didn't come together; a pile of stuff in tomato base. Gandy's executive chef really should consider refining the way entrees come together. The approach tastes haphazard and lazy."

"Only fair for the price. While the very quiet holiday was fine for talking with out of town friends, and the waiter excellent,

"My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Gandy Dancer this year. We couldn't have been happier. The menu had an acknowledgement to us with our names on it, a very special touch. The food and champagne were excellent. Our server, Devin, was outstanding to say the least. I had a business lunch there the following day and both associates booked dinner reservation for themselves before they left. If you haven't been, then go. Experience one of the nicest dining experiences in Ann Arbor, or frankly, anywhere."

"Got there for late dinner about 7:10pm to celebrate 20th wedding anniversary. Restaurant did not have our open table reservation (no show email from open table) but we were promptly seated in the area we had requested. It appeared everyone was being seated in this outer area by the train tracks because it was very cramped and we don't remember there being this high a noise level in the past (our third straight year at the Gandy to celebrate this occasion). Food and service was OK (nothing special). We like the Gandy and will probably return but this trip just seemed a less satisfying than our previous experiences."

"We enjoyed the whole experience of dining at the Gandy Dancer. We were very well taken care of by our server from start to finish. She was extremely attentive, but never intrusive. Our meals were delicious and perfectly presented; cheesecake dessert and coffee was the perfect way to finish. We love to come here and sit by the window to see the train pass by. It's low-key and romantic."

"I treated my fiance to Sunday Brunch at the Gandy Dancer on May 19th. The prime rib was wonderful!!! They even had Martha Vineyard salad! The best goodies on the desert table were the key lime bars, baked oatmeal and the sticky buns (to die for!). We were also invited to join the Landry's club and we did. Since it was my birthday month anyway, once I registered my card, I received $50 in member rewards right away so I guess I will be visiting again in the next few weeks. Lucky me!!!"

"We have been enjoying the Gandy Dancer for about 30 years and still enjoy the great food. The service has been slacking the past several times we have eaten at the Gandy.
Our table was difficult to get in to and the tables were placed too close together. There were many empty tables nearby, however a large group was placed about 18" from our table. The staff was just not very aware of the needs of the clients. I asked for water with no ice and it was served with ice. The waiters vest had food stains on it. There wasn't one big thing but many smaller things that showed less attention to detail then you would expect from this caliber of restaurant."

"In my life, I had only gone to the Gandy Dancer twice. The first was in the fifth grade and it was for a project, so I didn't get to taste any of the food. The Second time I went, this past Friday, was absolutely amazing to say the least. Not only was the food phenomenal, but so was the service. Our server seemed to genuinely care about us and was very educated about what was on the menu. All too often I have gone to restaurants and the food might have been good but the service was horrible, but this honestly was not the case for the Gandy Dancer, I was concerned about the prices, but after I tasted the food I could see why the prices are the way they are. Everything was so tender, flavorful, and memorable. Someday, I hope to return."
