"We had Afternoon Tea at this place, and that was a waste of money and time. Most of the small dishes tasted like they were made yesterday. The scones and the tea were ok, but the price ($45) wasn't. Look elsewere if you're looking for Afternoon Tea."

"The Lobby restaurant is a large but quiet space truly built into the lobby of the hotel. The staff's attention to detail was impeccable, starting with a delectable starting course, through the take-home orange pound cake. My entry was the lobster dish from the menu was already removed from the shell, presented nicely on the plate with tasty artichoke hearts, and was very tasty."

"my mom and I have a tradition of afternoon tea in chicago. we came to the peninsula 1.5 years ago and have tried them all - 4 seasons, drake, russian tea time etc and came back to peninsula since it was originally the best. This time our experience was just the opposite:
1. no pianist even though this is advertised
2. took over 15 mins to get a waiter to take our order
3. waiter showed up with the wrong tea for one of the pots and we had to ask 3 times for hot milk
4. vegetarian sandwich selection was strange and not tasty. no cucumber sandwiches?? tofuturkey mini burgers and tofuturkey mini asian wraps instead - really not what we expected. waiter showed up with a refill of roast beef sandwich?
5. waited 20 mins for our bill"

"I am giving The Lobby my highest recommendation because, everything from food to service was spot on. I had read so much about the roast chicken @The Lobby that I had to have it. It's a whole roast chicken stuffed under the skin and bronzed to a beautiful mahogany. It indeed lived up to the praise. However, the roast chicken at Bavette's is just as good, and in some respects, better. The whole roast chicken (for two; I ate half and took the other half home) I believe is $52.00. The half roast chicken at Bavette's is $17.00. It's your call."

"Over-rated & over-priced. Rather stuffy & pretentious. We will not be going back as there are thousands of other restaurants in Chicago with better food at half the price. Although the chef is noted for his roast chicken (at a whopping $54 for two!), my roast chicken (at a mere $6-ish) is at least as good (better really but modesty prevents me from saying so).
Really, it's 2013; the time for pretense & ridiculous prices are long-past. Had we realized the M.O. of The Lobby, we would have eschewed it for a more-deserving Chicago eatery."

"They have a new chef and have refocused their weekend chocolate buffet. Both changes work very well. Our waiter (Who was great!) suggested the chicken; while we were disappointed that they no longer serve steak the chicken was wonderful, a must try. The chocolate buffet now starts an hour later (9pm and not 8pm as in the past) all the offerings were rich and delicious. The only thing missing was the jazz. The elevator style rendering of pop music while well executed was almost comical at times.
The Lobby is a sure bet for us, we have eaten here several times and are never disappointed."

"Wow, this meal was absolutely dynamite. From an incredible mussels, razor clam, rock shrimp amuse bouche in lemongrass sauce to the last peanut butter truffle mignardise, there was nothing short of outstanding. The much vaunted whole roasted chicken breast for two lives up to its legend. Best roast chicken I've ever had. For spring, it's served with morels, onions & potatoes. The breast is kept ridiculously moist with a butter and brioche stuffing. The new spring salad is a perfect light start to the meal, and ricotta gnocchi are the best I've had in months. A string duo played live music, beautiful renditions of pop music. I couldn't believe how slow things were. Dinner for two with a glass of wine each was just $130."

"Lovely ambience, lovely service, and lovely cuisine. What more could we wish for during our ladies who lunch outing. Would be good for special business lunches or a night out as well - one doesn't feel like they are in an overly open Lobby. A nifty winter squash salad, Maine Lobster roll salad and a beautifully creamy and unctious bouilliabaisse finishing with a delightful cookie platter left us sated but longing for our next appointment at this special dining experience."

"We have not been to The Lobby in a few months now, but recently returned on a Saturday for lunch while out shopping. We were very pleasantly surprised to see a new menu from a new chef, Lee Wolen. The old menu was just that--old, and needed rethinking. I had the Amish chicken, which was just spectacular. I am not a fan of the ubiquitous chicken breast, and Chef Wolen's dish was made with chicken thighs instead. It was the first time that dish was added to the menu, and Chef Wolen came to request our feedback. Our other selections--arctic char, winter greens salad, and lobster salad--were just as spectacular. The winter greens salad was particularly elegant--beautiful mix of baby kale, frisee, pears, excellently dressed (not drenched)."

"We've been going to the Lobby for a decade and love the place. This weekend, oddly--perhaps because of the cold weather, we ate all of our meals in the hotel, and four at the Lobby; we were perfectly happy with the food, the service, and the ambiance. (We were staying at the hotel.) It is one of the most beautiful dining rooms in the country. The chef is new and the menu seems to have improved--not that it was ever bad."

"We took friends to The Lobby and although we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves I was disappointed in the food. My husband had the fish sandwich and it was too rich and heavy. The sauce overpowered the fish. I had the hamburger with short ribs in red wine sauce. I thought the hamburger was made out of the short ribs, but they were on top. I ordered it medium-rare, it arrive medium-well. It too was overwhelmingly rich. The sweet potato fries that accompanied it were however devine. I shared them with everyone. Our friend liked the bouillabaisse, a small portion, but she did not rave about it. The club sandwich was considered the best. It is large and big enough to share. I would order different dishes next time we dine at The Lobby."

"This is my new favorite restaurant! The quality of the food is amazing, and the chocolate bar was breath taking, i felt like I was in a high end Willy Wonka pastry shop. During the chocolate bar there is live music( which was really great), the place wasn't to loud, the view was nice,and the dinning room was amazing, very beautiful, and clean! The staff and servers and service you received was outstanding. We never felt rushed, and the sever knew a great deal about the menu and had good recommendations. I can't say enough wonderful things about this restaurant. If you want something romantic to do on a Friday or Saturday night, this is the place to be."

"Uninspired food, limited wine list, and very slow service. First, we had to wait a half hour to get our wine, and the restaurant wasn’t even very busy at lunchtime. Then came the food. The chestnut soup was bland and the portion size was ridiculously small, (more appropriate if it were part of an 8+ course tasting menu.) The pasta “main course” was called “Cavatelli with braised short ribs,” but it had only 2 small THREADS of meat buried under a small portion of the pasta and sauce. Otherwise, the squash salad appetizer was good, while the trout main course and forgettable desserts were just OK. There are many better choices in the area and we will never go back to this restaurant or hotel."

"The Lobby is really open to the Lobby of the hotel. The room is very ornate. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and came by regularly. I was there for restaurant week and all 3 courses were fantastic. I love that they have a string quartet playing in the background (from a mix of classical songs and string covers of pop/rock songs). Everything was great!"

"Enjoyed a delicious lunch at The Lobby during Restaurant Week. The Chestnut soup was outstanding and the trout with tarragon sauce was also delicious; however both items were served room temperature. In addition, we were not finished with our soup when the waitress and another server brought our entrees, which I feel is an absolute no-no in a beautiful hotel restaurant. On the plus side, my friend and I relaxed and enjoyed a beautiful dining "Lobby" where we were allowed to linger."

"I went with a group of 3 for lunch during restaurant week. We all agreed that the food was very good. At the restaurant week lunch prix fixe price ($22), it was a good value, although the regular prices seemed a bit high. I especially liked the butternut squash salad appetizer (very unusual, but very good). The roasted rainbow trout was very good,and the roasted vegetables that accompanied it were excellent. The Sticky Toffee Pudding with cocunut and raisin ice cream dessert was also very good. Service was very good."
