"Good hamburger with emmenthal and bacon on a nice roll. Outstanding fries! Different take on tarte tatin. The apple was cut in quarters and placed on and beside a puff pastry puff. I prefer the more traditional preparation. Service was attentive but unprofessional. Between the main course and dessert, the basket of bread was not removed. It was still there when my check arrived. More training is needed."

"Last two visits here a year or so ago, once for dinner and once for lunch, were disappointing, both as to food and service. But our most recent mail, a dinner during their celebration of pig, was very satisfying on both counts. We went this time mostly out of convenience, but next time would go on other grounds as well."

"This is a very good all-around restaurant that is more continental than French. Many dishes aren't exactly French but the wine list at least has a good '09 Bordeaux on it. We really enjoyed the "Alaskan True Cod" dish, it was sublime. We love the environment featuring huge French vintage posters, high ceilings, cool bar, and marble floor."

"Ordered the "new" old fashioned cocktail. Came with a large ball of ice that filled the glass and got in the way when trying to drink. Made with maple syrup - too sweet. Croque Madame was bland. Waitress described the sea bream as excellent ,but it lacked flavor. The side of mushrooms, onions and fava beans was excellent, but the portion was very small. Ordered side of asparagus with scallion dressing. Came plain. Watiress took it back to the kitchen for the dressing - not worth it. Not going back. Too many great restaurants around."

"I sat at my table for ten minutes waiting for my friend who was waiting at the hostess stand for the same time. She was told there was no one by my name with a reservation! She finally came back on her own to look for me when I texted her. We then sat for 15 minutes without once being greeted by a waiter. We finally called someone over who then took care of us. I ordered the soft shell crab which was fair.
The restaurant is very loud."

"Last time, I had surprisingly decent steak frites, but this time I ordered the duck magret. I should have known when the server said "the chef suggests medium or medium-well". For duck. Good duck should be served medium-rare. This was a hint.
I ordered medium-rare. It arrived rare (ok), but it was chewy. It was TOUGH, and it was low on flavor. Actively unpleasant. I assume the chef knew it was low-quality and cooking it to medium or medium-well would serve to obscure that a bit.
Water service was mediocre. Our server asked how the food was before I had a chance to take a bite, but failed to ask again even after I looked pretty unhappy with my food.
It made me nostalgic for the fantastic medium-rare duck I had at a restaurant in Petaluma."

"I chose the Left Bank primarily for its location (downtown Menlo Park) and was pleasantly surprised by how well everything went. The waiter was professional and attentive; the salad vert was fresh, tasty and geerous; the fish dishes (salmon and cod) were cooked to perfection; and the desserts delicious. The ambience was conducive to chat -- I was there to catch up with an old friend -- but also energetic. LB has been around for a long time, and I was worried that it may have become dull and complacent. But nothing could be further from the truth. A great evening."

"WE had the best waiter he was so attentive and always trying very hard to please us. Some things we ordered were not available or were preprepared and he worked very hard to please us. A very top waiter and so kind and pleasant.
We did have order issues we were there at noon and the crab cake entre was not available. One of us wanted tuna Tartar without onions and we found it was already premade and portioned so she could not have a taste she has a problem with onions and could have tried to see how much onion taste it had. We didnt think this was a good thing to have already made you can have parts chopped but not mixed together . This was a disappointment.

"This has to be one of the worse experiences I've had with an opentable restaurant. We went on a Saturday night. I ordered the paella and it came to me luke warm. The waitress was nowhere to be seen most of the night. She seemed extremely busy and was scatter brained. When she did finally come over to our table, she was trying to multitask by talking to us and the table next to us at the same time. I am extremely dissappointed in this restaurant since the one on Santana Row is much better."

"I decided to try something other than the outstanding hamburger on this visit. I had the croque poulet which was good (grilled chicken breast with brie, tomato chutney and arugula on the highlight of the sandwich - an herbed deli roll)but not great. However the pomme frites were superb. Next visit I'll have the hamburger. Desserts here are pedestrian. I ordered the tarte tatin but the server brought the pear tart. I didn't protest -- just ate it. It was the strangest tart I've ever had. The "crust" was puff pastry and it was surrounded by pear quarters. There were a few tasteless berries on the plate as well."

"The restaurant is beautiful, food good, not more expensive than other restaurants of that type in that area. The wait staff is friendly and polite, attentive but not annoying. The restaurant was very crowded and several times we had to wait longer than we would have liked. Unfortunately the pleasant open space with high ceilings amplifies the noise and it was almost impossible to hear each other."

"I've been to LB many times although I hadn't been in a few years. Turns out my fiancée had been there many times recently but I didn't know that. We had a new waiter who had a few too many tables so the pacing of things was a bit off, i.e. slow. But the food was excellent and the drinks quite innovative and different. I think I like LB more with a bigger group though, or just at the bar."

"Normally the Menlo Park Left Bank delivers what it promises, and we keep coming back. Easter Sunday was a disaster for us. We were seated at an undersized table on the mezzanine level. The bus service was ungracious-a skimpy basket of bread was literally dumped on the place setting of one of our guests. When the food came it was poorly prepared and poorly presented--eggs benedict with the undercooked eggs slopped off the muffin?
We believe Easter was not representative of this restaurant and will give it another try."

"We love Left Bank. It is our special event/date night spot. Went for husband's b-day (which I noted on Open Table). I assume they didn't check the posting because it was not acknowledged. Food was good that night but the menu was less interesting to our taste as it usual. It is spring and I hoped for lamb. It was heavy on fish which my husband does not enjoy. Our server was rushed as it was busy. Maybe he is new because he was not completely familiar with the menu and when we & our surrounding tables asked questions, he was not knowledgeable about sauces and ingredients. He WAS super nice and welcoming, however, and recommended a great salaf. Maybe a bit more time and training?"

"Love it when you arrive at a restaurant, they look for your name on their computer, then with a brief pause the hostess takes you to your table, without waiting in limbo... and the table is exactly as you requested on OpenTable. That's when everything clicks and the food at LB was equally dialed in tonight. Except for the check having an erroneous item added (fortunately I caught this) that was deleted with some consternation on the part of the server, the experience was fine. As perhaps the only dining establishment in Menlo Park worthy of mentioning by default, it remains a go-to spot for lunch, dinner, drinks and meeting friends."

"While the food is good, the service is uneven. I've been here multiple times, but half the time my server doesn't notice the table and the other waitstaff wandering about doesn't seem to notice either. This last time, when we finally were able to order our main dishes came before our cocktails!! And, then the cocktail order was wrong."

"The food tasted good and was well presented but the service was bad. Our waitress did not check on us and forgot to bring us water after we asked 3 times! She also suggested I get a salad so I was surprised when my entree came with a salad. She assumed we did not want dessert and brought the check when we wanted to see the menu."

"Great food. Very attentive service. There was some confusion over our reservation time. The restaurant had down 6:45. We thought 7:15. They called at 7pm to ask whether we were still coming. When I explained that I had made the reservation for 7:15 and apologized for any confusion, they could not have been more gracious about accommodating us and the restaurant was full with people waiting. We would definitely go back. Only drawback---acoustics make for a very loud restaurant which is challenging with a large group."

"The food was adequate. My guests had the trout which they said was tasty but very plainly presented, colorless, no garnish, no vegetabel. Bread basket has three small pieces of bread. The waiter ask if we wanted more and brought two more slices for the three of us. I have the feeling that you are doing everything possible to cut costs and stay in business. This is my first time at your restaurant and no I would not come again or recommend. Your business seemed strong when we were there."
