VOLT
VOLT offers guests a menu of modern American cuisine. “The focus of our cuisine is based on classic flavor combinations, creating sophisticated dishes that emphasize purity and seasonal flavors that are based on fundamental and innovative cooking techniques.” said Voltaggio. VOLT’s relationship with local artisan farmers ensures availability of products to fulfill the philosophy behind the menu, in a refined, historic venue where classic meets modern. By design, the restaurant follows along the original footprint of the mansions first floor parlors. Both the 38 seat main dining room and the bar/lounge open off the foyer. The original mosaic tile in the foyer was the inspiration behind the warm monochromatic color pallet that adorns the finishes in VOLT. Private dining can be hosted in the conservatory offering views of the expansive courtyard. The 700 square foot kitchen afforded space to include up to 20 guests.

"Volt has been on my list for awhile, and was well worth the wait. The food was fantastic. Each dish was a real creative piece, which not only was interesting conceptually and visually, but also tasted very good. Drinks were sometimes a bit slow to come up, but everything else was perfect."

"My husband and I went to Volt on our second anniversary and loved the food and the service! We went with the A la Carte option and ordered exactly what we wanted. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding. They have a pretty impressive wine list. Only dish I wasn't very impressed by was the Lamb course. It was ordered medium rare but the lamb came out pretty chewy, not as tender as one would expect. They did give us a free starter bites of chef's compliment and finished off with a free small plate of desserts which included couple really delicious truffles, 1 mini shortcake, and 1 green apple flavored candy/jello type of dessert. Yummy all around. Will try table 21 next time."

"I went into the evening prepared to be finding a pretentious dining experience! Not, so! First of all, the wine list was truly expensive. My husband and I sat at a bar across the street and I had my cocktails their for the price of 1/2 of my glass of wine later with my meal. For me, that was great. We ate a la carte and although the portions are small, we were happy with the creative blending of appetizers and entrees. Volt gives you a free mini appetizer, wonderful bread and a few bites of savory desserts. We would return but not soon!"

"The portions were tiny. The chicken had gristle and bits of bone in it. The fish was fishy. The cost was not commensurate with the portion size, quality of food, or the the flavor (there were some weird combinations). We would have complained but we were running late (not their fault), and the problems with the food seemed numerable. The highlight of the dinner were the complimentary treats at the end of the meal.
On the plus side, the service was understated, and in fact, close to perfect. Also, the bread was outstanding."

"Traveled from DC to visit. I was greatly disappointed... The wine and the bread excellent. The food OK. Do not understand the buzz about this place. The tasting menu was not tempting; so I had 4 courses: sashima, carrot, chicken, & cheese. Sashima was excellent; the carrot course consisted of 2 baby carrots, 2 slices of a carro mainated; & a carrot merringue, The chicken course --- sans every a piece of parsley was also a taste. The cheese course consisted of 1 slice of cheve cheese. I think they could have combined the chicken and the carrots!!!!!
Have no plans to return or to try the RANGE restaurant. Are people really that gullible????? Have eaten all over the world and just do not get it...."

"I was expecting the food to be outstanding - which it was - but I believe the service might be even better. From the moment you enter the front door until you depart, the customer is very important. We had the 5 course menu and enjoyed 4 courses immensely. The one course we didn't particular like was just a personal preference for 2 of us. The service staff noticed right away and asked if they could get us a replacement. We will be coming back. Our waiter also was kind enough to take us to the kitchen so we could meet the chef Bryan V and have our picture taken with him. Graciousness is at the top of their list to take care of their customers and they do it with flying colors!"

"The food here is great! Lovely small portion tasting plates, with interesting gourmet preparation. I recommend the flake and also the corn dumplings. I also encourage asking lots of question -- some of the dishes were not exactly as described. The morel mushrooms, for example, were served over oatmeal, loved the mushrooms, but had to pick them out of the oatmeal, which I dislike. In fairness, I was LATER told I could have sent the dish back. Impeccable service."

"Our 5th meal at Volt, 2 were table 21. The service was outstanding again. We felt the food although excellent, was more inventive than tasty. Did not have a single dish our party of four felt was a memorable(best meal of the year). For trying imaginative, enormously complicated dishes you could never make yourself, Volt is it. We felt taste was sacrificed for inventiveness. Our wine was outstanding; and sommelier informative - but almost no moderately priced wines on the list. A final note on the VEG tasting. It's $95- you can order 4 of the courses on the a la carte menu for $49. Hard to believe the sunchoke and iceberg lettuce servings come to $46. You shouldn't pay more per dish on the tasting than a la carte."

"This was an incredible dining experience. The service was first rate; dishes were placed on the table French style. The servers were exceptionally professional. The food was very "gourmet." Every dish was an unusual preparation of familiar foods presented in unfamiliar ways.....very delicious!! After several courses, Volt did not stop there! Truffles and other goodies were brought out. To top it off, we were given mini coffee cakes to take home for the next day's breakfast. This restaurant is an evening of pure food heaven!!!"

"Volt lives up to its reputation. The choices provided on the menu were divided into an a la carte and a 6-course tasting menu. There is also an optional wine pairing. Although they prefer it when each guest orders from the same menu, they accept orders from both. Each dish played with a variety of complex flavors, and they were all balanced well. Although I was prepared to have revolving plates and table settings, the constant relay required full time and attention on your food and often distracted the flow of conversation with my date. Therefore, I would recommend Volt for a celebratory occasion, but not necessarily an intimate or romantic one."

"Food was fabulous as always. They've changed their dining format from fixed price back to al a carte designed on a six course format. The only changes we weren't happy about was the scaling back on their baked goods -- only 2 bread selections in their bread basket where as they use to offer 4+/- varieties. They've done away with their coffee menu (they use to offer a selection of coffee varieties but now only offer caffinated or decaf). Those two changes are missed as those were unique offerings that we felt differentiated them from other upscale dining establishments. Too bad."

"Ambiance was very good, the restaurant was very clean, and our server was excellent. Some of the food was great, other food was average at best. The best thing I had was probably the applewood smoked bacon, very tasty. The second best thing was the chocolate marshmallow ice cream. My brunch entree was not so good. I had poached eggs on top of potato hash. The potatoes were soggy and oily and did not at all taste good. The poached eggs were room temperature, not warm.
Overall, I would have given Volt higher rating if the prices weren't so high, but considering we paid $60 per person for brunch without any alcohol, I would have expected higher quality food."

"Good food, great presentation. Prices are great on food, but they make up for it on the wine. Wine list is perfect but I know my wine and this has more than 175% upsell from retail. And even though I was not charged the $25 recorking fee, the mear mention of that after the high priced selection was odd to me. Overall it was very good. Go !"

"Excited to finally try Volt after hearing so much hype. Had lovely time, food very good but didn't knock socks off like other comparably priced, comparably fine-food establishments in D.C.&Bethesda. Ordered a la carte; 1 person in our trio didn't want tasting menu. Next time: the tasting! Standouts: breadsticks, spelt roll w/butter, amuse bouche (pork crackle with halibut etc.) were delicious; I asked waiter to surprise me with a refreshing mocktail (i'm pregnant) and he did great (a bright, citrusy creme). I had green strawberries (a highlight), calamari cavatelli (wished it was less smoky, more piquant), cod cheeks (delicious), chocolate mousse (highlight). Loved my friend's corn dumplings. Financier cakes YUM. Service excellent."

"This is one of the best restaurants I have been to. The food is innovative as well as excellent tasting. The Meyer lemon dessert is the best I have ever eaten. The chocolate marshmallow, crushed chocolate chip cookie frozen custard, with salted peanuts was fantastic."

This is simply one of the world's great restaurants.
We're vegetarian and did not want the quantity or expense of the tasting menu, to our disappointment there was only one dish on the a la carte menu which was vegetarian - no problem, however, our (somewhat overly) solicitous waiter conferred with the chef and came back with a sufficient choice of dishes which could be modified without harming the chef's conception.
The food was delicious, interesting, revelatory, and fun - like going to some kind of adult Epicurean amusement park and art museum at the same time without any compromise to culinary and nutritional satisfaction.

"Went for a Saturday brunch which is reasonable priced for such a celebrity chef. While some food was outstanding, eg, the lamb, others were mixed. One problem is that it is impossible to predict portion size. The cod =, which was excellently prepared, was only 4 bites while the lamb was a hearty serving that could have been a meal in itself. The service is remarkably professional and attentive without being intrusive. Beware the descriptions and the dishes. Sometimes the leading item was merely a bit of garnish, other times it was the heart of the dish."

"Brunch was awesome! Bread's were delicious. Drinks were generous and very well mixed. I had the crab ravioli, which was excellent. Maple Bacon Donuts are a must-get if you're there for brunch. Both desserts I tried off the pre-fixe menu were outstanding (and I'm not a huge lover of desserts)."
