Grasing’s, located in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea, lies along the Pacific Coast in Central California in Monterey County. It is 120 miles south of San Francisco, 70 miles south of San Jose and 350 miles north of Los Angeles.
Celebrity chef partners, Kurt Grasing and Narsai David, truly created a gem. Fancifully designed in warm hues and modern art work, Grasing’s sets the stage for entertaining that is at once festive and intimate. From friendly and professional service, an award winning wine list and seasonally inspired cocktails to the fresh and sustainable local ingredients are only a few reasons why Grasing’s still receives rave reviews from the press. Just recently, Grasing’s was awarded “Restaurant of the Year” and “Business of the Year” by the Carmel Business Association. Chef Grasing was also honored recently by the American Culinary Federation and received an award for “Chef of the Year”.
"The service was terrible. We had to wait more than 30 minutes to get a glass of wine and dinner took over 1 1/2 hours to arrive. Many waiters seemed to be standing around doing nothing while ours was very busy. He said 6 tables had been "dropped on him." The maitre d' seemed aloof and uncaring and unhelpful Too bad because the food was delicious. But we were done in by interminable waiting and unfriendliness."

"One of the best New York strips I've ever tasted. Exceptional really. Also, the classiest thing I've seen in any restaurant, ever. Our waitress brought out a white napkin for me and a black napkin for my wife, who was wearing black slacks. That's attention to detail. Went for my wife's birthday and they sprinkled b-day confetti on the table and wrote us a nice note. Very nice."

"The food and service at Grasing's were both amazing. The table we sat at was too close to the adjacent table and slightly took away from the intimate meal I had expected. The cocktails were refreshing. I'm sure we'll go to Grasing's again in the future."

"This is our third time at Grasings - we keep coming back for the food, service and great atmosphere. We held our small wedding lunch here 5 years ago and they really went out of their way to make it special for our party. This past Monday we visited Carmel and had another great experience! We hosted our friends who were visiting from the New York area and they really enjoyed Grasings' superb selections. Two of us enjoyed the cod special while others enjoyed the shrimp and pasta dish as well as the paella. The wine selections were great and our waiter was fantastic."

"We were celebrating several things that are happening this year. To begin, we had a great table at the front window. The table was decorated with black, gold, and silver balloon and squiggly sprinkles. We had a HANDWRITTEN NOTE from Kurt Grasing on our table!! This is the only place we've ever had such, and we've celebrated at some great restaurants. The service was beyond comparison, including our server, our busser, and the maitre d', who was exceptionally and genuinely friendly and happy. The food was oh-so-good! Thank you for helping to make this "Love-in Tour Year" the best! (75th and 65th birthdays, 25th anniversary)"

"We had a wonderful dinner from start to finish. My husband claimed his martini was the best ever! The service was attentive, the food was truly "fit for foodies," and the wine list was over-the-top good! A special evening!"

"Your restaurant was referred to us by a local couple. We were not dissappointed. Great food and an easy going atmosphere. The wine list was impressive. I was especailly impressed with the attentive (but not "pushy")service and the wait staff's knowledge of the menu, preperation of menu items, the wine cellar and the kithchen's accomodations to specific dietary requests. They were all exceptionally friendly yet professional, attentive and one of the main reasons we returned the next day for lundh and will return on our next trip to Carmel.
Thank you all for a great experience."

"We were on vacation in CA for our 5th anniversary. I asked for a nice quiet table and even though it was the Pebble Beach Food and Wine Festival weekend, we got it. They called to confirm our reservation the day before. They noted our request over the phone. Upon arrival, we sat down immediately. There was a nice hand written note thanking us for spending our 5th anniversary with them, along with some confetti on the table. A really nice touch! The service was good. Had it not been for the festival, I'm sure it would have been great. You could tell there were large tables in the restaurant taking up a lot of the service team. The food was great and the menu diverse. I got to try the Abalone, which is like our S.FL/Bahama conch. We enjoyed!"

"We had our 40th wedding anniversary at "Grasing's". It was wonderful! Our waitress was very nice. Friendly but not TOO friendly! She brought us a wonderful deasert and wine as a gift! If we're ever up this way again we will return! Thank you for a wonderful memory!"

"A curate's egg of a meal: exceptional tuna tartare starter with wasabi sauce(for myself)and seared ahi tuna main course (for my wife), simple but tasty warm spinach salad starter, but rather ordinary paella main course and very poor almond tart dessert. The welcome and service were very professional, but without real warmth. Excellent wine list, with good choice of wines by the glass and half bottles. We are new to the area, but understand that restaurant prices reflect local demographics. However, at $150 for two starters, two mains, a shared dessert and a half bottle of red, I think we were expecting a higher overall quality."

"If you get the a good server you in for an ideal night...Wine list was wonderful, we had their butter leaf salad to start very fresh, scallops & fishl very fresh and delicious.... They have a problem with their seating arrangement, rather than place large tables in the rear of corner area...they place them right in the middles of the restaurant...this amps the noise level...be aware unless they read this review and work to appease this situation be aware of the noise and head away from the source...."

"Execution of the dishes was somewhat flawed...some things overcooked, underseasoned, balance of flavors off. Just didn't hit the right marks as we would have expected for a restaurant of this level."

"If this was a moderately priced restaurant, I'd recommend it. But if you're going to spend close to (or even more than) a hundred dollars per person on dinner, the food should be outstanding."

"Lovely food, knowledgeable and attentive staff...we dined on a Monday. There was a solid following in the bar but only 4 tables in the dining room. We had a relaxed dinner and felt no rush from the staff. I can't wait to return."

"Personally, we weren't impressed with Grasing's. We saw online that they had truffled ravioli as an appetizer and couldn't wait to try it. When served, you couldn't even smell the truffle oil which (if done properly) you should smell two tables away. Not to mention it took nearly 30 minutes just to get our appetizer. They didn't have the wine we ordered so they brought something different. Then the steak we ordered was just "ok." But then again, we are from Texas and know what true dry-aged beef should taste like and this wasn't that. For the price tag of nearly $240 (including wine)there are far better options in Carmel."

"We selected Grasing's because of the great reviews and we had passed by the restaurant many times during our trips to Carmel. We usually avoid dining out on Valentine's Day for obvious reasons. We were seated at the worst possible table. They obviously decided to squeeze in an extra table which placed us two inches apart from the adjoining table and directly in the pathway of the servers who had to turn sideways to get past my husband. He was bumped numerous times through out the evening, not to mention the patrons who had to pass by as well. My husband's steak was alright but nothing fancy. My sea bass was cool, dry and overdone. They ran out of the lemon tart which we had pre-ordered for dessert. Overall we couldn't wait to leave!"

"This restaurant never disappoints...and we will always come back for more! The service is outstanding...awesome attention to details. Food is delicious, generous amounts, creative and pleasing menu--something for everyone. We didn't like our table when a loud party of four sat next to us, and they moved us without delay and extremely discreetly. We so appreciated that! Nice wine list too!"

"The food was very good and the staff did a very nice job in being attentive to our needs. Overall it was a very nice experience. The only issue that disturbed me was the arrogance of the manger in greeting us as we arrived. We arrived early and felt our party was admonished for arriving ahead of our reservation time. We felt he was very rude and our only intent was to let him know we had arrived and have a cocktail in the bar. As it was we left and went to another bar down the block and returned for our dinner reservation. He should be given a lesson in courtesy and a pleasant smile as customers arrive!"

"Staff was friendly. Our server was not the best. She talked us into ordering the abalone appetizer (most expensive) which was full of oil. I know what delicious abalone tastes like. This was greasy and tough. She also pushed us to order the most expensive wine. The main dish was very good and the dessert was delicous. I would not return."

"Overall it was not a great experience. First, there was no one at the door to greet us or the two other parties that arrived at about the same time. We then waited 10 minutes to be seated for our reservation when there were many open tables including the one where my wife and I were sat. The food was good including the Onion Tart, Spinach Salad and entrees.Poor service continued at the table, unfortunately."
