"I really liked the atmosphere of the Cannery. The old warehouse is very cool from the time you walk in. However, the dining experience itself was just ok. We were seated, but then waited for over 20 minutes before anyone stopped at our table. Apparently our table had not been assigned to any of the wait staff. We got over that and ordered appetizers. We started with some of the rolls. Crunchy roll was great, 911 roll was fine. For dinner, I had the halibut, and the fish was dry and rice was undercooked. That seemed to be the consensus at the table, things were just a little off. Overall, it's not a bad restaurant, the ambiance was great and it has a fun vibe. The food, on the other hand, is just ok."

"The Cannery had sold out the inside dining room to a single groyup and we were worried that it would effect the service and food. The staff did a great job in planning for this event and it in no way effected the high quality of service and the excellent food we received."

"We've dined at The Cannery multiple times both for dinner and for brunch. This time it was for brunch and it was 3 courses -- appetizer, entree and dessert. I had the clam chowder and my husband the salmon for appetizers and for entrees we both had the prime rib with two poached eggs with holandaise and roasted potatoes and cherry tomatoes. For dessert it was a panna cotta with strawberries. All were quite good with the prime rib being somewhat tough, which was strange. We'll definitely be back for dinner and brunch."

"Had a great meal here the other night. Requested patio seating a few weeks ahead of time, and were seated next to kitchen, so not close to patio, but it was cold so didn't complain. Food was good. Mahi was just okay (and I LOVE fish); the chicken was the best I've ever had and also the polenta. They brought out two bday desserts (bc we were celebrating 2 bdays) and I thought that was a nice touch. The desserts were delicious too. Overall, a great meal. We will be back, but probably to order the chicken!!"

"Made reservations for out of town guests and The Cannery wowed them. The food was excellent, the service impecable and we were not rushed. As always, we were treated to excellent choices from the menu, the cocktails and wine were served perfectly. Our waitress was knowledgable and professional with just the right degree of friendliness. "I have have always thought the Cannery provided a great ambiance for the social scene and unique blends of culinary excitement. "after checking in with the hostess, we proceeded upstairs to the bar
found a table and sat down for several minutes without any service, a waitress even walk by us a couple times and still no service, i finally had to approach a waitress and she served us well from that point on. when our dinner table was ready we approached the hostess who just stood there staring at the computer screen and did not acknowledge us . we were there for the Lawry's menu. our waitress was ok but the Lawry's waitresses were fantastic, much more friendly and attentive."

"We met here in the middle with friends who are from the San Diego area. (We are from Los Angeles.) It was the PERFECT place for us. The food was delicious and the ambience was beautiful. It was two moms and two 10 year old girls. The girls thought the place was so cool inside and the staff was totally inviting and accepting of our mommy-daughter brunch. I saw a lot of families there. All having a great time. Food was delicious."

"My review is for Open Table. I originally made my reservation for 5 for Sunday April 21, 2013. I had to go back and change it to 6, and I ONLY changed the number in the party, nothing else. Not niticing that it also changed the date to the next day. When I arrived at the resteurant, it was not pleasant. There is something wrong with you software if when all you change is the number in the party the date is inadvertantly changed too. Fix it please."

"We went on Easter for a $40 fixed price menu. Few choices available. My kids ordered short ribs with brussels sprouts, which they dislike, because it was the best among the very limited choices, however they didn't like the short ribs, said they were too fatty, so basically they had nothing for lunch for which I paid $40 except one deviled egg. My scallops were cooked perfectly and I enjoyed them. However, the chopped salad that preceded them was just strange: Like chopped salad you'd buy at the 99 Cent Only Store with some proscuitto and sliced radishes dumped on top. Very odd. Dessert was nothing special. I paid $180 including tip for myself and two kids for very unsatifying meal. On the plus side, staff was friendly."

"The Cannery never disappoints and this Easter brunch was superb. We had the clam chowder and the calamari for appetizers and for entrees the scallops on a bed of artichokes and white polenta and the salmon on a bed of sweet pea risotto. The angel food shortcake with berries and whip cream were a great ending to a fantastic brunch. The prices here are quite reasonable for a holiday meal as opposed to others where a holiday signals overpricing."

"We had a great meal. We ordered the sea bass special which was outstanding. Our waitress brought a free desert at the end of our meal since it was our first time there. It was a wonderful, not skimpy desert, and we ate every bite.
we were celebrating a wedding anniversary so it was a bit noisy for intimate conversation. However considering it was a Saturday night prime time. it was probably not going to be a quiet spot. We will come back but maybe for a brunch or with a larger group."

"New chef + new menu = less of a good thing. Yes we loved this place stopped by once a month but, where did the Cannery seafood salad and all the fresh fish go (3 seafood and trout) go? The new menu must be trying to please the foodies. Bring back the simply grilled fish, let me decide on the sides and were happy. Except...

The really big issue I have is the kitchen server interface, in our case there was over a HOUR delay from when we ordered to when we were served. ONE HOUR!!! After 45 nim and the 3rd time I asked the server how is our order coming along, she says I''l check....no update, i ask yet again comes back "OPS! it somehow got lost."

So it seems... and so did my ability to add in a tip for this waitperson."

"Hadn't eaten here in years, but was great, if not better than the years gone by. Sat outside and was warned by hostess of noise level due to large parties. It did not bother us. Our servers were attentive and polite. The food was excellent. Crabcakes, Mexican Coctel, Salmon and Mussels were great. Mexican dishes very spicy, but I like mine that way. Most dinners having Fish and Chips. It looked great and hope to go back to have that one day!Highly recommend!"

"We had a family Sunday brunch in the patio area. The service was great...thanks to Nicole our server. One of our party was running late but we were not hurried by the restaurant, and simply ordered appetizers and a bottle of wine until our party was complete. This was the fourth or fifth time we've dined there, and it's always enjoyable!"

"Everything we ordered was fantastic! We were on our honeymoon and decided to give it a try and it was a perfect setting for local food an great drinks. The fish was fresh and the waiter made great recommendations to what we were looking for. We were not rushed and would return if back in the area."

"None of us had been to The Cannery before but all of us would go back in a heartbeat. The food was creative and spectacular, as was the service...our waiter was world-class in every way: extremely knowledgable; tactful; conspicuous when needed, otherwise not; attentive; professional and courteous. Back to the food...there were some very imaginative ideas/mixings that I never would have come up with nor have seen before. Those who had the Ocean Trout raved about it, while the rest of us who had Halibut with a ridiculously great risotto were more than happy. No one had Entree Envy, we were all too pleased with what we ordered. My only caveat: it is NOT a quiet place...there's a healthy buzz so don't go if you're looking to whisper."

"We liked everything except for an overpowering waitress. While very efficient and seemingly knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairings, , she was somewhat presumptuous in her interaction with us. Hearing our conversation about real estate, she, uninvited, became part of the dialogue questioning and telling us about her own real estate ventures which we preferred not to hear about. Later, when our appetizers were served, she took the spoons out of the hands of two of us and proceeded to show us how to eat; stirring the spoon in our food. Lastly, with desert served, she described how one person should go about eating it. I believe she meant well, but her actions tended to intrude and to infantalize us."

"Well-rounded menu with absolutely fresh fish. Apps we had were shrimp cocktail, calamari and 911 sushi roll. Entrees we had were swordfish, halibut and filet. Everything was terrific. I chose this spot for out of town guests and was not disappointed. Service was friendly and excellent."

"If you are looking for a place for a special night out, this is it! the service was amazing as was the food. this is a 90 year old restaurant in Newport Beach and I remember coming here growing up and took my husband there for the first time,he thought it was amazing too. The food and service couldn't have been better!"

"Was one of my favorite Resturant now with a new chef this old gem will never be the same. The Bouillabaisse was the best in Orange County now with the new chef not worth the money. The portions is about half of the size of original bouillabaisse and new sauce is just butter. Very Disappointed and definitely not worth the price."
