"The food is authentic Italian superbly prepared......delicate thin crust pizza, fresh salads, delicious pasta with veal ragu, and outstanding Branzino. Picture a sunny day and lunch in the most beautiful out door garden setting in Chicago. We had guests from San Francisco, who also absolutely loved it!"

"Had a 9:00 reservation last Saturday night but not seated until 9:35 or so. It was a very, very busy night and I know these things happen. But when there is a delay, I expect the front of the house to be polite and proactive. They could have simply told me that they were running behind and sent me off to the bar with a drink or a snack (on the house). Then, after we were finally seated, our waiter forgot to put in our entrees! What a mess."

"I took my parents out to Piccolo Sogno this weekend. They're definitely the foodie types, and always appreciate a good Italian meal. Well Piccolo did not disappoint! As soon as we walked into the dining room, all I could smell was the sweet aroma of truffles! So of course, I had to have them. The three of us shared an appetizer, the baby artichoke salad. Fantastic. It was light and perfect for a shared appetizer. We each had three very different pasta dishes for our entrees. We all shared, and each agreed that all three were equally delicious but different.
Service was also really great. Our waitress gave great recommendations and was always available if we needed anything. This is definitely a good find and I'll be back."

"I surprised my wife with the choice of restaurant. She has been to Piccolo Sogno Due a few times and likes it a lot. This was my first time at either restaurant and I am glad I made the choice. We received great service from the moment we walked in. I mentioned to the waiter that we were pressed for time and he made sure to stay attentive. At one point, I was looking around the room taking in the ambiance and one of the other waiters came over thinking I was looking for assistance. I appreciate when the wait staff is alertly scanning the room to see if a patron needs help even if it is not their table. The food was tasty. We are definitely coming back!"

"The patio is excellent, food great - branzino was perfectly prepared. I would've given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the timing. Management needs to allow their servers to quit hurrying diners and slow down. We were interrupted way too many times to make decisions, wine was overpoured, plates pulled away quickly (complete opposite of a true Italian dinner experience) The entrees were brought out before we were even halfway through with appetizers. It's not the servers fault - I noticed they were being pushed. Allow your diners to enjoy your great patio and food."

"I made reservations to celebrate my wife for Mother's Day. She and I went on a beautiful Wednesday night and, upon our arrival, everyone from the valet attendant to the front of house staff greeted us warmly. We asked to be seated on their highly regarded patio, which did not fail to impress, and ordered drinks and an appetizer. Things seemed to decline from there.
We did not hear from our server for at least 30 minutes after he took our order. To be fair, the restaurant was busy but the wait wouldn't have been an issue had he simply updated us not to mention we both ordered dishes (duck & salmon) that typically don't require a long cook time. Instead, he seemed to be put off when I questioned the wait and my wife's duck was overcooked."

"The food was excellent! We have been wanting to try this restaurant for a few years and kept choosing other restaurants over it (too many Italian restaurants in Chicago to choose from), however, I am so glad we finally did! The special pasta with truffles and ricotta was unbelievably good and the hazelnut dessert is my new fave. Can't wait to go back!"

"Patio was great atmosphere for an unusually warm evening. It was annoying that we wanted a later reservation but open table said it was booked. The restaurant was empty and available tabes still remained throughout our meal. We would have preferred to come later. Makes me wonder if opentable is not as accurate as a phonecall to the restaurant."

"My first visit to the new restaurant but it offerred the same fine food and service. As a matter of fact enjoyed the boars meat sauce with homemade pasta I had enjoyed on Halsted and it was just as I remembered, delicious. We sat near the river, still not summer but it was nice to be semi outside. The service was supurb. I had artichoke and ricotta filled ravioli, the serving portion was right I suppose but I could have used a few more. We came back after a show for desert and had the gelatto with a nightcap, super.

"I love this restaurant. Their food is so authentic Italian! One of the best in the city. I try to come in the summer to dine in their garden area, which is like being transported to the countryside. But come anytime for real Italian food - and waiter too. I had the special of the day which was a lamb ragu over wide noodles. It was rich and satisfying without being overpowering. They sauce their pasta more lightly than many Italian places. But this is how it is done in Italy. I also had the calamari as an appetizer and it was tender, flavorful and not overly breaded. The chickpea "fries" were interesting, but somewhat bland. I wouldn't get them again. Over all a wonderful lunch experience."

"My wife and I shared the signature sea bass entree and the halibut. Both were cooked perfectly. The flavor of the vegetables that accompanied the sea bass were equally satisfying. For desert we shared the gelato special w/ an espresso. The wait staff was attentive - but not pushy. Too, we had an early reservation but did not feel hurried as the dining room began to fill up. We will return soon."

"Despite having a reservation and being on time, we waited almost a half hour to be seated. The restaurant was very loud and the tables were so close together we were practically having dinner with the couple next to us. The food was ok but not great. Overall the experience was not a good one."

"The food and service was excelent. But the noise was deafning, you could not talk at all as it was so noisy. Also the tables were on top of each other so it felt like you were dining with strangers. Unfortunately even though the food and service was excelent our experiance was ruined by the ambience and the fact that the tables were on top of each other that we will not go back."

Excellent Italian food (we have lived in Italy for several years)! Unfortunately, the noise level is so bad that one cannot talk. The atmosphere is very frantic with multiple waiters running around to get a new table ready the minute somebody stands up. We will only go back very early or very late, not around 8 like we did on a Friday night.
They need to do something about the noise level!"

"I have heard great reviews of this restaurant. I went during a work lunch, and I was actually disappointed with the food. It's not that the food was bad, but I was expecting it to be so much more flavorful & high quality. The restaurant was very slow when I went and I kind of felt like I was being attacked by the servers. It got a little irritating because there were 2 different servers who were asking the exact same questions one after other (e.g. do you want any thing else to drink besides water, would you like something for dessert).
Overall, I'd be open to trying this restaurant again. I think I just ordered the wrong meal - it was a little dry and flavorless."

"Another excellent dinner at piccolo sogno! We had great service this time (have had snooty waiters a couple of times), all our entrees were fantastic. Lovely biscotti and panama cotta for dessert. Aperitifs and wine selection guided by waiter were all excellent. We just live this place for special occasions or dinner with friends!! Sensible portions, good bread, olive oil, balsamic and Parmesan. Very authentically Tuscan."

"Everything was completely outstanding...and it's not like this was our first visit. I was initially disappointed they no longer had the Amarone (wine)available by the glass, but the waitperson guided me to a terrific Pinot (not the most expensive on the list, either). Just perfect."

"One of the best meals that I have enjoyed. We split the burrata appetizer - mozzarella and prosciutto, which was excellent. For our pasta courses, we had the spinach gnocchi and cheese ravioli. Both were perfectly prepared, but the cheese ravioli had perfect flavors complemented with pine nuts. For the main course, we selected the sea bass. This dish was simply prepared, but had great depth of flavors. Last but not least, we had the chocolate cake with hazelnut gelato. This was the perfect ending to a great night. Will definitely return on our next trip to Chicago."

"My husband requested Italian food, his favorite which we rarely eat, for his 30th birthday. Given the solid reviews and the easy location, I thought Piccolo would be perfect. It is true the ambiance and service were great. The waiter was definitely on top of his game, quick to make recommendations and pair beverages with food choices. He even read my note and prepared a birthday treat.
However, to be honest, I do not think the food was anything extraordinary. I had the seafood stew and my husband had the steak. The flavors were balanced but did not pop. Neither dish was memorable. Portion size was sufficient."

"I was very excited about trying this place out since I tend to pass by it a couple of times. The food was great but the service not so much. My boyfriend and I felt forgotten at times. The seats are too close together and I could hear the other people conversation. I would go back but probably for lunch."
