"Cafe Routier has been our "go to" destination for some years for special ocasions. The food, ambience and personnel have maintained a high standard and continue to live up to expectations. My wife I appreciate both the conistency and inventive nature of the menu. Sorry you no longer serve lunch ( I eat out alone frequently) but still a great place for dinner. The waitstaff, especially Dana, on our most recent visit was exceptional."

"I have read about Cafe Routier for many years and finally got the chance to go on Mother's Day. I expected a light and airy place near the sea with outstanding food and service. The decor is confusing at best. What are you trying to be? The entry room looks lighter than the rear room where we were seated. Dark--dark-- with pictures of big city buildings??? Aren't we by the water? The dark room with cob webs in the recess lighting was disappointing. The PLUS --the seating is roomy and comfortable. The staff who helps clear etc needs instruction and training. Wiping a finger on a bread plate to remove ? whatever not acceptable. The bread crumbs cleared into our lap...not good. Most dishes were good NOT fried oysters awful. Moules SPECTACULAR"

"We've been enjoying Cafe Routier for years and always look forward to our next visit. The menu changes frequently so you can choose from old favorites or try something new from the regional or seasonal menus. All dishes are deliciously prepared and beautifully presented. There were so many lovely dishes on the Vietnamese and spring menus, it was hard to choose. And, we were thrilled with our meal. Bravo. Encore, Routier!"

"Food is very good with a varied menu. Fried oysters are excellent, as is the steak frites dish. Desserts are also good, although the flan is small compared to other desserts, e.g. turtle cake which can be shared by 2-3 people. The restaurant is attractive, but casual. Our friend noticed some spots on the cloth back of the booth in which we were seated. This can spoil the ambiance of an otherwise attractive restaurant, and should be attended to."

"We arrived early and had drinks in the lounge. We enjoyed the lounge atmosphere, everyone was having a good time. The dining room was not too busy being that it was a Tuesday night. Our waitress was excellent. We ordered a 2nd bottle of wine and when she told us they had run out, she made an excellent suggestion for a substitution. We ordered scallops, duck and rabbit stew. Everyone was very happy with their meal. We dine at this restaurant a few times a year and they never disappoint. We will be back."

"Having patronized the bar/lounge several times in the past for an after-theater bite, I finally had the opportunity to try the full dining experience. With 3 menus (Regional, Seasonal, Traditional) to mix and match from, there was plenty to ponder. So much so that I nearly overlooked the extensive and inventive cocktail menu. For me it was mussels in a magnificent sauce of tomato, garlic, and (lots of) saffron followed by pefectly cooked duck breast in apricot sauce. My wife opted for French onion soup and swordfish with a pesto butter. We will certainly be back! Oh, and "Pliny's Tonic" a cross between a mojito (muddled mint and lime, sans sugar) and gin martini (with cucumber) has now joined the "my top five faviorite martinis list""

"Cafe Routier has been consistently outstanding for years. The service is attentive but never intrusive and the decor is lovely. They have an impressive wine list, and the servers do a fantastic job in helping you choose the right glass or bottle with your meal. The three separate food menus are always a combination of well conceived and inventive new additions, as well as timeless classics. The steak and frittes here are always a revelation, and they have been the centerpiece of a number of wonderful memories of great meals with cherished friends and lovers. The desserts are also first rate, and always end the meal on a satisfying high note. I have eaten at almost every Michelin starred restaurant in NYC, and Cafe Routier is their equal."

We were a party of 6 and everyone in the group loved their appetizers and entrees. It was especially nice how all the entreest were brought to the table at the same time, the staff really work together as a team to make the customers happy..i have dined here many times and I look forward tony next visit.

"We had a lovely dinner with friends. My husband and I arrived early and enjoyed a drink at the bar prior to dinner. I noticed the bar menu and the couple eating next to us. I had a drink with jalepeno infused tequila and the name cactus in the title. I loved it! however it was very strong and the rest of the meal is difficult to recall! I did ask to order off the bar menu and that request was happily met. We all enjoyed our meal and the exceptional service! Will definitely visit again soon."

"This was our second visit. If we lived closer, it would be a weekly sojourn. the mussels mariniere were succulent, huge, juicy and garlic heaven. Steak frites (best outside of Paris!) and rabbit stew were also to die for. Great wine, too.
Service is knowlegable and professional. A definite keeper! I listed the noise level as energetic bc it was a holiday weekend. the last time we were there, it was much quieter. Nevertheless, the food is worth it regardless of the noise level."

"Overall good dining experience. Did not like being stuck in a table for two in an area where everyone was lined up side by side and very close to each other; made for a noisy environment, not at all cozy and warm.
Service was professional but very ordinary. We were an early seating and I felt rushed; entree arrived well befor we were finished with appetizers.
My wife enjoyed the winter salad and thought the seared scallops were very good. I thought the onion soup was a bit sweet for my taste and that the hanger steak was done exactly as I ordered (medium rare)and very tender and tasty. The lemon poppy seed cake was not exceptional at all."

"Four of us celebrated a birthday dinner last week, and we were all most pleased with our experience. The food was delicious, the service efficient and friendly and the cozy booth we shared warmed up a cold winter night. I loved the idea of three menus, regional, seasonal and specialties; we were allowed to mix and match! The arugula and endive salad and the pasta starters were perfect, flavorful and fresh. We all tasted each other's choices. My rabbit stew was classic, a sweet, spicy perfection! The scallops were tender, and plentiful, and the two who enjoyed the chicken and dumplings raved over the flavors. The bananas foster bread pudding and profiteroles disappeared in a flash. Our server was delightful. Overall, the best!"

"This was our first time at Cafe Routier and we weren't sure what to expect. The website indicated that this was going to be upscale and trendy, which sometimes indicates a whiff of snobbery, but that was not the case at all. We were politely greeted by everyone, and our waitress always had a big smile. The ambiance was warm, romantic and inviting.
The food we had was amazing! Mussels were full of flavor, the chicken and dumplings was the best I'd ever had (with a deliciously creamy tarragon sauce), and my fiance enjoyed his rabbit stew.
We finished up our meal with some good coffee and gelato, only to be surprised with some chocolate covered strawberries on the house for Valentine's Day. Overall a fantastic experience, we loved it."

"Being new to the CT shoreline my wife and i had heard great things about this place. We even bought a gift card for a friend because of its rep. When we walked in no one was at the door to greet us. We ended up walking through the bar until someone told us the dining room was on the other side. This is ok for an American Pub, but for a restaurant that holds itself in high regard this seemed unusual. When looking at the extensive drink menu, we asked the waitress for suggestions...she seemed a bit annoyed and told us to read the descriptions and make a decision...really?! Besides the first 30 min or so the food was excellent, but would certainly not go out of my way to go back based on this experience."
