Café Centro is a bustling midtown brasserie with a stylish look that echoes the glamour of Paris in the 1930's. Guests can watch our chef as he prepares French-inspired cuisine with Mediterranean accents and sear top quality steaks. Pastry chef Ken Larsen's sumptuous desserts are not to be missed. The well priced wine list has received numerous Wine Spectator awards and has been voted "Best Beaujolais Bistro". Regular wine dinners are well attended. The attached Beer Bar is a great place for New York’s best burger, a casual lunch or to unwind over craft beers and cocktails. "Very pleased with the venue and the food. Service was attentive and noise level allows to to have a conversation during dinner. We've been back twice and enjoyed both! Pre- fix also a perk!"

"I frequently go to Cafe Centro for business breakfasts and lunches and am always delighted by the excellent service and tasty food. A meal is no bargain, but I never feel ripped off. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The menu has plentiful light options, good for people like me who love fine food but are always looking to trim calories."

"I'm a breakfast regular at Café Centro and have been for the past 5+ years. It's an ideal location, setting and menu for a business breakfast. This morning was the usual 8:30am reservation. Service was great as usual and the food arrived promptly. Halfway through my eggs benedict there was a loud crunching sound and a pain in my tooth. I had clearly bitten into something foreign, sharp and hard. it looked like an egg shell but felt like a rock. After politely calling my waitress, the manager arrived, comped the meal, offered to remake it, extended sincere apologies, spoke to the kitchen staff and apologized again. Things happen but it's how you handle them that makes the difference. I'll keep coming back for breakfast. You should too."

"We needed a restaurant for a dinner meeting and Cafe Centro was perfectly located in the MetLife building, reservation process was simple and easy, staff was accommodating in finding us a quiet table, the food was excellent, great service....exactly what I was hoping for. This will be my defacto place going forward."

"We met for lunch with a relative whom we had not seen in 25 years. The staff was extremely accommodating in allowing us to extend our meal time without rushing us in the least. We were so thankful to have the opportunity to spend this time together."

"With approximately 50% of the tables filled for breakfast, one would think service would be acceptable. However, it was slow as molasses. The servers did not even offer a refill to our coffees !"

"Knowledgeable pleasant server assisted with wine choice; my spouse ordered the fixed price dinner and enjoyed all three courses; I ordered a la carte and found the filet mignon perfectly done. I had the beignets for dessert and recommend them. They also knew how to make a good dark cappuccino. I'd go back in a heartbeat."

"I gather the joint is jumping at lunch, but I have found either in the late afternoon or early evening this is a great place to bring a friend or a small group for a quiet conversation, a truly rare find in NYC. The mussels are terrific."

"It's always a pleasure dining here. The food is always great and it's always a comfortable dining experience. Plus, it's kind of cool getting to watch the pastry chef make your dessert. If I had to list a negative is that the service can vary from visit to visit. Our head waiter was spot on great but some of the supporting staff seem like they need to be re-trained. However, service is never an issue that would prevent me from returning."

"During the early evening the after work crowd absolutely slam jams the Beer Garden part of this largish restaurant. Part of the Patina group and one of four Met Life building restaurants, Centro is deceiving. With the often tumultuous outdoors action, the small interior section is lost. But, it is worth discovering. The prix fixe menu is really great, less than $40. The duck and filet mignon were super as were the deserts. The knew about the anniversary in advance and ended the lovely service with a plate of goodies, lit candle and anniversary wishes written around the plate in chocolate. We would go back any time."

"We are not New Yorkers, but were visiting for my birthday--a big one. I ordered a salad and mussels for dinner. The vegetables in the salad were overwhelmed by the dressing, which had way too much whole grain mustard in it. The mussels were overcooked, which ruined them. I sent them back (and I NEVER do that) and asked for a single crab cake (the appetizer size). Maybe I'm spoiled by Maryland style crab cakes, but this one didn't measure up: too much celery and the same whole grain mustard used in the sauce. Desserts were good. Wine by the glass was a generous pour, but you gotta eat, too. The saving grace was a generous coupon, so at least the evening was not expensive."

"I booked Cafe Centro for six people. The restaurant was very accommodating and assigned a round table which allows all diners to participate in the conversation. The food was good, the service was excellent and we were able to be at the theatre matinee on time. We walked because the theatre was on the same street, but there is a taxi stand across the street. All the diners said they would come back soon. We particularly enjoyed the chopped salad, the pan seared trout . The waitress responded quickly to all special requests ( i asked for lemon wedges for my fish dish, we asked for the check to be split between the three couples). I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation."

"I have been coming here for years. Food and service usually good. Did not find it that way this time. I ordered a bottle of wine and the waiter thought it necessary to keep filling it after each sip. Ordered the onion soup, the cheese topping was so hard it was like eating a cheese cracker. I ordered the steak frites. It came with a 1/2 stick of garlic butter on top of a steak that was fatty and tough. I barely ate any of it and when the waiter came to take away the dishes and asked how everything was I told him about the steak. He said he was sorry and I should have let him know earlier. Never asked if he could get me something else."

"$8. for 6 oz of grapefruit juice? Fresh squeezed but still a little overpriced. Even for NY. I ordered the omelet and it was OK at best - quite runny. The rye toast was bordering on stale before it was toasted so it was inedible. It was tough even to pull it apart to try to eat. If I wasn't meeting someone for the first time with the point of the encounter being discussion and not food, I would have sent the entire breakfast back."

"We have eaten at Cafe Centro before. The food was excellent, as was the service. This last visit was very disappointing. Our server was nice but we saw him just four times, to take our drink order, our dinner order and dessert order and when we asked for the check. The appetizers were good but the main courses were cold and we had to hunt down a server (not ours) to take them back to be heated. The risotto came back cold again. What was most frustrating was that there were a lot of open tables and a lot of servers but most were just standing around, talking. Again, a very disappointing experience."

"A grown-up restaurant with table cloths and tables big enough to accommodate all the plates. Very good modern French cooking without weird surprises. A good loaf of bread starts the meal (something most restaurants now seem to omit). Service is casual, but professionally proper. It is a bustling lunch spot, but I like it for a relaxed dinner. Excellent balance of food, service, and atmosphere at a reasonable price."

"interior reminded me of restaurants in a nice boston back bay hotel, so it was perfect for a post-business dinner with colleagues. the menu has moroccan inspiration (bisteya in the appetizer), and the meals were nicely presented and portioned slightly on the large side, but not excessively so. there is a nice prix fixe for $35 with a nice selection of dishes for every course. the cost was quite reasonable and special requests were fulfilled without any kerfuffle. space was comfortable, food delicious, spaetzle made perfectly, service was prompt and polite. we hear they serve breakfast, too!"

"Incredibly small portions for the price fix lunch. Food was tasty but if you are using an expense account (who doesn't at this place) get food off the main menu so portions will be bigger than the palm of your hand and you wont be hungry after you eat."

"We always enjoy eating here. The menu is nice and caters to all appetites; prices are moderate and varied; waiters are efficient and non-intrusive.
This is a large space, but the decor is nice and one does not feel the vastness of it. I believe it gets a busy lunch crowd and week night crowd"
