The most exciting sushi restaurant in the triangle area. Serving extensive varieties of fresh fish from around the world and exotic fusion dishes, Sono is sure to please even the most discriminating palate. If that is not enough, we have daily chefs specials that are created using fresh seasonal ingredients to keep customers excited. Come and see what all the buzz is about and also enjoy the full service bar with wide array of premium sakes and wine. You will agree that this is the best Japanese restaurant in the area.
"This was my third time going to Sono, and I've loved it every time! I always get sushi and Skittles roll is a must every time! It is a fruit sushi, very refreshing and awesome! Sake "G" is also my favorite!"

"This was our third visit because we have enjoyed it so much! With the valet parking it makes dinner out a breeze downtown. A favorite is the tuna tartare is to die for and could literally be your meal!"

"So this is the fourth time we've been to Sono. Our experience has been increasingly LESS enjoyable each time. This trip may very well have been our last. It mostly has to do with the service. We all know that you can always overcome mediocre food with exceptional service, but if you get lousy service, then no matter how good the food is, the entire dining experience is dminished. Needless to say, our dining experience was severely dminished by our server who made us feel completely unwelcome. As if he was doing us a favor. It's a shame because I do like the Sushi at Sono and they have some unique rolls and such which we enjoyed in spite of the service. I'd rather have gone to their other restaurant Zinda, and enjoyed my self immensely."

"Used to go to Sono more often and we were excited to go back for a special occasion. Since we were last there, they have cheapened their sushi roll quality-- smaller rolls, less high-quality fish options (like Salmon/Lobster) and cheaper prices to reflect that. Many area restaurants constantly advertize BOGO specials on their rolls and Sono never has done that. We expected much more with the food. The service was fine and so was the overall experience, but we could save money and a drive and get higher quality food elsewhere. Not planning on making the special trip downtown again too soon for this place. We ordered 4 rolls and ended up ordering a 5 (something we NEVER do) because the rolls were so small, they left us still hungry."

"This restaurant is in downtown Raleigh so parking is a major issue. Be prepared to pay to park and to walk to the restaurant. We enjoyed our meal very much. We just wish they were open for lunch on the weekends."

"Fantastic Sushi! All of our rolls and sashimi were excellent! The "Secret Garden" roll was an unexpected delicious choice, recommended by our waiter."

"The food was wonderful and the service was outstanding! We took several suggestions from our server and she was perfect! We were sat at a table near the bar and unfortunately there was a very loud group standing at the bar. Once they moved away our experince couldn't have been better!"

"Loved my first dining experience at Sono! Attention to detail was amazing. Upon hearing we were first time diners, the master chef came out to speak to us and make suggestions. How often does that happen any more? Our waitress was invaluable in guiding to things she thought we would like and she was spot on! Don't miss the seaweed salad!!!!"

"My husband and I love sushi and since we don't live in a city we don't have access to high quality sushi. He was home on leave from the army last weekend and we were meeting a friend who lives in Raleigh. I had heard commercials for Sono on the radio and checked it out on line. The menu online didn't show the specialty rolls so they had more choices then I thought. We had a reservation so we were seating promptly. Our server was very polite and attentive. We ordered edamame, the Screaming O, the Pink Floyd (and another I can't remember) and the Creme Brulee Cheesecake. Everything was fantastic. We sat and talked for a while. Since we arrived at 6:30, the noise level increased throughout the night but other then that, the evening was great"

"This has become my favorite restaurant after just two visits. I live about an hour and a half away and am more than willing to make the trip just to eat here. The food is very fresh, cooked thoroughly, and served with a very appealing visual presentation. The wait staff was attentive, and quick to ensure my wife and I were being taken care of."

"This was not our first time to this restaurant, and up to now we have kept going back because they have great food. This last time was the only one where we have been to a later dinner (after 9:00pm). Unfortunately, the other guests at this time of night seem to think that Sono is their personal playground or they are in a zoo. I have never seen so many people that kept jumping from chair-to-chair and table-to-table totally unaware of others around them. It's a shame they spoilt it for us, and we will probably not go back to Sono, but equally management didn't try to calm the rabble down, so they must endorse that behavior. I do not wish to participate thanks."

"I had my reservations concerning Sono based primarily on a number of reviews I has read but gave it a try anyway. To state it simply, we'll be going back! Having tried 5 other Japanese/Sushi resturants in the area, I have to say this is the best. The four of us had a combination of drinks, appitizers, entrees, sushi and dessert so we were able to sample Sono's performance across their menu. Everything was excellent. The service was very good, very friendly and very accomodating. I have to admit that I was surprised that Sono was quite crowded. I didn't expect that in downtown Raleigh on a Sunday evening but that may speak to how good Sono really is! I highly reccomend Sono."

"Sono has the best sushi that I have ever tasted in NC. The food was great and the service was outstanding. The waiter was great and friendly. I would recommend Sono to anyone that wants to have great Japanese food with a wonderful atmosphere."

"I got the teriyaki chicken like I did before but the chicken has changed. Instead it was cut up on this mushy white stuff and the chicken was mostly fat, then the waiter wouldn't take it off the bill!"

"The sushi was just mediocre considering the price. While the restaurant is accommodating to special requests/designing your own rolls, we walked away with a huge bill and a "whatever" experience. We would not go back."

"Sono remains my and my wife's favorite restaurant in the CH/Durham/Raleigh area. The key reason is creativity. While the sushi is outstanding and well sourced, we drive in to Raleigh more for the creativity of the entrees. The menu is constantly evolving and has continued to improve over the 2 years that we've been regulars. Head of Madai and Tuna Tacos are two favorites."

"We finally found authentic Japanese food in downtown Raleigh! We choose restaurant week for our first visit and ordered off the prix fix menu. We selected the deconstructed ramen (which was very different - in a very good way) , the sushi (fresh!!!) and a beautiful creme brulee cheesecake. The food was incredible, the wine was lovely (although I would have enjoyed a bigger pour) and our waitress was personable and efficient. We'll definitely be visiting again."

"Sushi was out of this world and the presentation was great as well. I only wish they had a better saki selection. They didn't carry our favorite saki and they were out of the first saki that our server recommended. Otherwise, if you love good sushi and a nice quiet spot, this is the place to go!"
