CHAYA Venice is located in the heart of the Venice beach community and imparts a neighborly feel to diners. A well-loved dining destination for 22 years, Executive Corporate Chef Shigefumi Tachibe creates innovative cuisine that blends European and Asian flavors. A lively and comfortable atmosphere, the spacious dining room features high ceilings that draw attention to the dramatic hand-painted Japanese-inspired mural overhead. Expansive windows allow diners to have a full view of Main Street. From a variety of Euro-Asian dishes to a full sushi bar and full service bar, there’s something for everyone at CHAYA Venice.
"I brought friends who were coming through from out of town. We wanted to 'catch up' over a good meal. The array of food choices was perfect - everyone had a different taste and all were well pleased. But it was nearly impossible to hear each other without shouting. We started at 8p on a Tuesday night and sat in the main restaurant (not the bar, which I would expect to be noisy.) Perhaps if we had been there earlier it would have been different?"

"I highly recommend eating here. Sushi is as fresh as you're ever going to get...The raw fish in the sashimi salad is about the best I've had. The pasta arrabiata we had was amazing. All of the food is great...even the warm sour dough bread. It's a hot spot in Venice. Only thing is it can be very crowded but even so...when I've eaten there on Saturday nights..it wasn't a problem. I recommend sitting in the back far away from the bar."

"My family and I go to Chaya Venice and celebrate all our special occasions. We are far from the Venice hipster or part of the in crowd, however we are always made to feel welcome and given wonderful, gracious service. Our experience is always pleasant and memorable."

"While I typically enjoy happy hour at Chaya, I celebrated my birthday there with my boyfriend and his kids. We had to wait a long time for our orders to be taken, to get our drinks, etc. I don't usually mind slowness, but with two hungry kids, it was a problem."

"Love it. Chaya Venice is one of those rare restaurants that manages to provide superb food and great atomosphere at reasonble prices and in place that you won't feel uncomfortable bringing your kids. For that reason, I call it a neighborhood gem, but that might understate it. It is more than that."

"Our reservation at 8:45pm for four people was not seated until 9:25pm, our compensation was a free spicy tuna roll to share. Additionally, my drink order was messed up and the waiter stuck a straw into it, pulled it out, tasted it, then pulled my drink off the table and proceeded to go remake the exact same drink."

"Every time I go, always a great experience with a varied menu so that I have never eaten the same thing twice.....except their Kobe Beef and Lobster sushi roll which is not on the menu, but what I come back for time and again!
I book every time I am in Santa Monica and this is my stop away from home in NYC."

"Restaurant does not know what it is. Confised menu. Is it Japanese? Is it a steak and pasta restaurant? Decor from the 80s with tables too close together. No real welcome or farewell - entry area needs attention."

"Ridiculously loud environment. Ruined the evening especially when they added loud music. I mean, really. The wait staff must have hearing problems after working there awhile. You have to shout to be heard even in the dining area."

"Chaya Venice remains one of our favorite restaurants for all occasions. However, we were very disappointed that, despite having made a reservation far in advance, we were seated in the bar area - not the main dining room. We were insulted that we were not, at least, given other options. However, given that the bar has the only TV in the place, there was some consolation in being able to watch the NCAA Basketball tournament during our meal. Otherwise we had a very enjoyable experience, as usual. The service was great and made up for much of our disappointment regarding the seating. The food is always enjoyable and the never-ending creativity of the chefs is always something to anticipate."

"Chaya is one of the few restaurants that has been around for many years and the reason is you can always depend on the food to be excellent and the ambiance lively - Chaya always comes thru and never disappoints. It's our go to restaurant with friends or as a couple It is a bit on the loud side so if you are with anyone who is hard of hearing it is probably not the best choice"

"I liked the restaurant menu and food better before they changed it. The Lamb Chops and Chaya Steak were better before. Our service was wonderful, except for one of two hostesses. This hostess refused to hold our table open for thirty minutes while we ordered wine and appetizers at the bar. This hostess was rude and totally unlike Chaya's known service. I do not think Yuji or Yuta would hire a rude hostess as this one. Our waiter was exceptional... made up for the awful hostess, who was not at the front when I left at 10:30 pm and after spending $200.00 for two."

"Nice experience once we finally got seated and got a server. I had a 9:15 reservation on a Friday night, showed up at 9:25, and they gave my table away. Ordinarily I would have called to say I was running late, but open table sent my email confirmation with "instructions from the restaurant" that said they would keep my table for 15 min after the reservation. We then had to wait 25 min for the next table to open up which was very frustrating. Our waiter then took 10 min to come say hi after we were seated. The food was good and the ambiance was really cool. I just can't understand why they would give away my table and have us wait when they explicitly sent me those directions. They need to either change that message or honor it."

"Food was delicious, Scottish salmon and the miso sea bass, preceded by a beet salad that was the best part of the evening. Service good though waiter was just a little bit arrogant as if we shouldn't have had so many questions about the menu. Also could have shared that the house chardonnay was $13 a glass, no wonder it was so yummy! Definitely will return and hope for better wait staff."

"We have celebrated Valentine's Day at Chaya Venice for the past 5 years. We were quite disappointed to discover that they had changed policy and were NOT serving from the regular menu. We felt forced into a more expensive evening and couldn't have the dishes we had specifically gone there to enjoy. Since I had made the reservation through Open Table there wasn't any information about this presented to us beforehand!"

"Just Okay for me,not sure I understand the sushi menu, there isn't a sashimi platter, or anything that resembles this, which is my usual way of ordering sushi... Paying for the scene, but I think there is much better local sushi to be had..."

"Chaya Venice had been one of my favorites in the area until last Saturday night. Bread was never offered to our table the entire night (I thought they had stopping servicing bread until I saw it at our next table at the end of evening)and dessert was forgotten by the waitress which I reminded her when she brought the check (the dessert was part of prix prefix 3-course meal of LA Dineweek-was ordered from the beginning of the evening). We waited at least 20 minutes for it. (a delicious bread pudding - the best thing we had that night!) Then we (4)waited at least 35 minutes for her to bring the same bill back to us - all without apologies (no bread, forgotten dessert and delayed bill). For the first time, I tipped only 15% instead of 20%"
