"A famous restaurant brings expectations of the best in food and service. When they don't deliver, even if they offer amends, it is disappointing. We were seated at a window table but inquired about patio seating. We were told that the day before rain was a problem so today they decided not to chance weather again. Within 10 minutes others were lunching outside. Explanation -- a "special" group. I ordered a hamburger done medium rare and the soup. The hamburger was overdone & tasteless. A second ice tea came sweetened not unsweetened requested making the third strike! They offered a fresh burger but we our of time time. Our biil was adjusted but our expectation for a lovely lunch was left with the feeling we should have booked elsewhere."

"We went to Castle Hill for our anniversary on Sunday brunch. Flowers we ordered were on the table, everyone knew it was our anniversary and greeted us, manager came by for special greeting and offered us complimentary drink while we walked outside and enjoyed the music and view. Food was very good, setting is spectacular. All in all, a very memorable meal."

"Going to a Relais and Chateau designation, our expectations were high. The food was not exceptional. The foie gras was the best course and the chocolate peanut butter mille feuille was very good. Steak was overcooked and sent back for a redo. Overall a disappointment and not the first time. Mushy heirloom tomatoes in the tart. No valet in the pouring rain, no doorman with an umbrella."

"Everything about the reservation exceeded our expectations! We went for brunch for my mom's 60th birthday. She was impressed. Had a mimosa on the lawn before we sat. The food was fantastic, the view was breathtaking, the service topnotch. Will be going back sooner than later. No need to go just for a special occassion, just go! You will be glad you did."

"A very special part of our Newport experience. Lovely inn & setting. Excellent menu & wine list. Every seat has a nice view of the water. I had foie gras and scallops. My husband had scallops and a fillet. We both had the wine pairings, which were excellent. My 21-year-old daughter and her friend had lobster risotto, starting off with scallops and red pepper soup, respectively. For dessert, we had the chocolate souflee the blue cheese cheesecake. We all thought every dish was superb. Our waiter was wonderful, as were the other wait and inn staff. The chefs are to be congratulated, as this experience competes with top restaurants in any major city. The inn is warm and welcoming and the setting could not be more beautiful."

"While the food was quite good here (though NOT as great as it should be for a Relaix & Chateaux), the real issue was service. Our overly-familiar waiter glad-handed guests at every table. But he did not focus on basic and crucial things like refilling water (even when we asked it did not come and I doubt we finished the bottle of Pellegrino we paid for), replenishing wine and generally assuring the smooth flow of a 5-course tasting menu. Other staff from the kitchen (the ones actually doing the serving) seemed anxious, understandably so with no one in command of the tables. By the end of the evening we assumed our water had left as the check was presented by another staff member. Turns out we saw him at the bar as we were leaving."

"Castle Hill never seems to disappoint its customers. As a previous employee of the hotel, it was joy being able to return with my family for a lunch that was pure excellence from the quality of the food to the welcoming and knowledgeable staff. This restaurant is truly a gem of Newport, offering an exquisite dining experience unlike so many other restaurants throughout New England. "The venue was undoubtedly beautiful! Gorgeous view of the water. The staff were friendly and informative. However I was slightly disappointed with the food. Our entree came out room temperature. It was as if our food had been ready in the kitchen but the staff must've been busy and didnt get a chance to bring our food out right away. I expected perfection from a high end restaurant. Unfortunately it fell short on the food for me. I did love their scallop appetizer and chocolate soufflé though."

"My family and I recently dined at Castle Hill Inn on a friends recommendation and it was nothing short of perfect. We were celebrating a graduation and a birthday and were congratulated right on arrival. Our waitress was very kind, knowledgeable, attentive to detail, and available when needed without being overbearing. We all had appetizers that ranged from Kielbasa to Scallops which were all amazing. My main course was the Lobster Roll with a side of fries which was the best lobster roll I have ever had in New England. Overall, the service, beautiful setting, and great food are reasons I recommend this restaurant to my friends and and family and look forward to returning soon!"

"Since the Relais et Chateaux takeover, this has become one of the best tables in town. Marrying an already exquisite setting with food worthy of what have always been prices near the top of the local market, thus is my favorite. Far from the madding crowd downtown, one can almost always get a table in the evening. During the day, it is packed and the bar crowd spills over onto the lawn."

Although a buffet is not usually my preference, this one was handled beautifully, beginning with the selection of 3 appetizers brought to the table and the menu listing the buffet table's options, to the truffle at the end of the meal.
The view was spectacular, an important enhancement to the delicious food.

"The ambiance and service was amazing.
I had the scallops and my wife had the red pepper soup which were both amazing.
My wife had the Hake which was average at best.
I asked for the beef (to be cooked medium)which was tasty but very, very dry.
Everything else was so good that I think I would go back one more time believing it was just a bad night for the beef."

"I took my daughter and family to this lovely restaurant to celebrate her 1st communion. We were 45 minutes early for our reservations and to our surprise were accommodated within minutes of our arrival with a a table with a great view. The food on the luncheon menu was reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. I had a lobster sandwich and it was by far the best I have ever had. The only negative was our waitress. She was slow and disorganized. I am assuming she may have been new. However, the rest of the staff took note of this and helped us with whatever they could take care of. A lovely day was had by all and I am sure will be a beautiful memory for my daughter. We definitely plan on returning!"

"We had not dined at Castle Hill in a few years and were hoping that it had not lost its luster. We were not disappointed. Although it was a rainy evening, the setting is still spectacular, overlooking Narragansett Bay. There are a number of dining rooms to choose from and each offers its own interesting setting to enjoy. Our server has been with the restaurant for a number of years and he was excellent. The food was very uniquely prepared and also excellent. Overall, a great dining experience."

"While the ambiance, service, and food were all excellent, the restaurant fell a tad bit short on being on par with the best (which in my opinion is Le Bernardin). I think the portions were cumulatively a little bit too large and the lack of a true sommelier made the difference. That being said, anytime you are being compared to LB, you are in an elite class. I greatly enjoyed my meal at Castle Hill."

"First time visiting Castle Hill and it won't be our last. The food was excellent and all the servers were wonderful especially River.We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and went there on the advise of friends. We had a long leisurely Brunch and really enjoyed the Lobster Hash which River recommended.We were not dissapointed. Can't wait to go back."

"Amazing spot, amazing sunsets, great food, pretty expensive. Was caught off guard a bit by fix price being the only option but worth is for a special occasion. Wine list for the non-elite was a bit limited. Found a "special" for chardoney at $40, next was $62 an then rapidly moved to $100+. I'd go back in a heartbeat for an anniversary but would be afraid to bring a group."

"We dined here during restaurant week. We enjoyed our meals & our server was great. Our waiter had an accident with the wine bottle slipping & breaking some glasses-we were fine, the table needed to be made over,so we waited in another room. We were fine with it-accidents happen, but I was a little surprised when we received our bill that I was charged for the wine. I thought it would have been a nice gesture to not charge us for the glass of wine,but I didn't say anything. They were very apologetic & the rest of the evening was great. Overall, we would return ,but probably only during restaurant week-very pricey."
