"We shared a seafood special and the gnocchi which were both great. Portion size was just right and allowed us to have salad, bread, and dessert without feeling overstuffed. The key lime pie was delicious. Service was excellent."

"The prior two times we ate there, the service was good and the food was very good. This time, the service was slow and unenthusiastic. The rib-eye was tough and vegetables were bland. The best item on the memu was a roast pepper soup, which was quite good, as was the ceaser salad. As it is in The Plains, near Middleburg, which we enjoy visiting, we will try it one more time to see if they were just having an off day."

"IMHO there are three types of restaurants: the ones where you don't remember what you are and you don't remember what you paid for it, the ones where you don't remember what you ate but you sure DO remember what you paid for it, and finally the ones where you'll never forget how good the meal was that you ate, but you have no recollection of what you paid for it because it was so good.
I have dined at The Rail Stop probably over a hundred times over the last few decades, and it has never ever been anything other than money well spent on a wonderful experience."

"The Rail Stop is always consistent with great food and service. Love their menu and wines. They have a heavy local following and always make outsiders feel very comfortable and welcome. Worth a trip out to The Plains."

"It's a nice little small town restaurant but I would not suggest it for kids. The menu is short, which is not a bad thing and they also offer a few specials. Always make a reservation as it gets crowded quickly. You can tell that the food is homemade. Mine was very good! I would recommend!"

"low key, decent food, comfortable atmosphere, friendly but untrained wait staff, very reasonable prices, all made this a pleasant stop for a casual Sunday brunch."

"My family and I have eaten at the Rail Stop on a few occasions, so we decided to try out their Easter menu. I have enjoyed their food in the past, but today things were off. Turns out the Easter specials weren't so special. I had the pork with green salsa, which was very bland. My wife had the ravioli, which was pretty good (is it hard to mess up ravioli?). I don't think this place really wants children in their restaurant. Only 2 options. Noodles with butter sauce or some kind of grilled chicken dish. I don't know many kids who would find this very appealing. I don't expect them to have chicken nuggets, but would it be too much trouble to add a simple spaghetti dish? No real comfort food options."

"Very relaxing environment. Server was extremely well versed in all the dinner items. Just a bit pricey for the quantity of each item served. Regardless, the dinner was very nice and the food was excellent."

"Four of us went on Valentines Day. Seated promptly. Bread was great. Soup was luke warm. Main course portions were small; only four lobster ravoli for a main entree; this is an appetizer size portion. My filet was ordered medium rare; it was totally rare throughout. Service was average."

"I like the ever changing menu. That speaks volumes to me. Service is great, friendly & timely but it does lack quiet places. I requested a quiet table for a hearing impaired guest & we ate in the bar area. It was ok but not the best with other tables filled close by & the door opening all the time. All in all, we had a very good time!"

"I love the Main Street Ambiance. The place was great with one small yet BIG issue. They opened at 5pm and I had a 6pm reservation. We were there when the doors opened. The hostess was a bit anxious and there was only us and another couple and the place was empty but it loads up early to be fair. Told her I was early. She sat us in the least most unattractive place with no ambiance. I have eaten all over the world and so I simply went up to her and said, "we would like to have another spot." She was a bit anxous but polite and moved us to a nice scenic locatin. Date's crab appetizer was fair and more mayonnaise than crab..my curry mussels were outstanding. Beautiful and quaint...SLOW down though... I will ret"

"Unfortunately, this restaurant was very disappointing this time. The service was, at best, fair and the food was poor in quality. We were the first people in the door and were given the worst possible seat even though every seat was available. People, who were obviously regulars, were seated at these tables even though they came in after us; this was made very obvious in that the couple that was originally seated next to us in the second worst spot were immediately spirited away to a much better table after one of the servers recognized them. We had used this restaurant as our go to restaurant for every Valentine's Day and Easter for the last 3 years, but never again."

"This was our second visit to The Rail Stop and it was every bit as good this time as our first. The soup of the day, cream of carrot and curry was hot and tasty. The Ahi Tuna special was made to perfection. The creme brulee and the chocolate gingerbread cake with lemon curd were sinful. Recommendation: One dessert is enough to be shared by two. The only disappointment was they were out of the Malbec we like. Our server brought over two wines for us to sample. The Pinot Noir we chose was excellent. It was interesting to note that the restaurant was filled with regulars. Our server new many of them by name and what drinks they preferred. Speaking of reservations, make them. The place was packed the day after Valentine's Day."

"This is a nice quaint restaurant in the small town of The Plains. It was wonderful for Valentine's Day. They had nice specials and a good menu. Given that it was VD, it was crowded and the staff was busy. We were in no hurry and had a wonderful time and we will be back."

"My husband and I have wanted to try this restaurant for a while and were happy we did. My husband had the snapper, I had the spinach salad and squash gnocchi with ox tail, all fresh and delicious. wonderful bread which is baked there(could be a little warmer). shared the apple tart which was also delicious. we appreciated the size of the menu. so glad to find another good restaurant choice in our area, definitely will be back."

I only wish I could eat there two times a week or even more. Everything is freshly cooked to order. The wines by the glass are outstanding, well chosen and a good value."
