"I took my wife here for her birthday. The place was highly recommended by several people. We got the tasting menu with wine pairing. Overall the food was great but some dishes were lacking. I really thought only two dishes out of the 7 stood to the level of this price tag. In retrospect I would have went with an a la carte selection.
The service was good and the waiter was very knowledgable on the wine pairings."

"I was very lucky to get a reservation at Babbo by calling the restaurant a week prior. It was a surprise dinner and we both enjoyed the ambiance and the food. Amuse bouche was excellent. Chianti Stained Pappardelle and Neci Con Funghi Misti were spot-on. Steak and guinea hen were fabulous and savory. Servers were attentive and friendly. I would high recommend Babbo for anyone who appreciates the romantic and intimate dining experience with excellent foods."

"As usual the food was excellent as was ther service. I truly apprericated that we were accomdated after arriving late from our play. The only problem we had was as we were ordering dessert ( and I realize it was late due to our late arrival), heavy metal music came began playing which almost made me jump out of my seat. When I asked if it was possible to turn down, I was told that Mario likes this kind of music and he was in charge of the music selctions.

This I thought was extremly rude answer to our request!"

"Sat upstairs, restaurant was full and ambient noise was high. Space was tight. Serving staff were helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. Sommelier made an excellent recommendation. Two primi, one secondi and one contorni with wine was enough for two. Food was excellent and well-timed. Not rushed. Not inexpensive but worth it."

"Babbo was one of the BEST restaurants ive been to. Compared to the food served it is very fairly priced and service was absolutely great too. i recommend this restaurant. The pork chop, gnochi, steak and desert were all amazing."

"Our group was seated a full 30 min beyond our reserved time. At 1 point, hostess (after we had waited 15 min) told us that the table was being cleaned off and be ready immed. We waited another 15 min beyond that.

The sommelier tried to up sell us an expensive bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. The most expensive on the list, for Sauv Blanc. Wine ordered 4 main course came after our entrees, it came 5 min late

The Ravioli with meat was terrific. As was the grilled octopus. As was the striped bass. That last dish was inspired, with morels and very fresh fava beans. The best I have ever had. The fettucine with Vongole was not respectful of the delicate flavor of the Vongole. It was too spicy, and covered up the flavor of the clams."

"The food was wonderful as expected but the service was really poor - disinterested staff and we had to continuously waive down a waiter to get parts of our meal, etc. Even getting our coat took several attempts. Also the pop music is really loud and seemed out of place at such a pricey venue."

"You can tell that the "diners experience" was truly sought out from the moment we walked in. The staff was polite and friendly. The food was spot on in flavor, size and presentation. As a thirty something, I do appreciate all kinds of music, but I do have to say that ACDC blaring in the background did turn us off a bit!"

"I've been wanting to come here since the place opened. Finally, I got lucky got a reservation on my birthday weekend. My partner and I had the pasta tasting menu and every single thing was divine. Divine. My only tip is to leave a little bit of each dish as to save some room for the insane deserts. It is going to be hard to go back to regular dining."

"You could have saved us a lot of time and some money by simply telling us that you didn't want our business.

What is wrong with you guys?

You make my parents - 86 and 84 years old - wait to be seated because the 4th member in the party was parking the car.

Your empty into 2 glasses the contents of a carafe intended for 4 so we're forced to buy the second carafe.

My parents shared a $60 veal chop and when I asked that the waiter have it sliced to make the sharing easier I am told that they don't do that?

Are you guys nuts?

We will NEVER go back to a Batali restaurant and I will tell at least 500 people that the food was mediocre and the service was downright hostile."

"I'm not sure why this place is still packed and tough to get a reservation. Service was sloppy, the pasta was mediocre and oh, if you order the whole branzino (which looked delicious), bring it out to the table and show it to me, have someone who knows how to de-bone a fish handle the job. I ended up eating 1/2 the fish (taste was good - nothing spectacular), tiring of finding bones (I stopped after 6!!) in almost every bite. Isn't that kitchen 101? I would expect more from this place and you can find much better food at a place like Marea or Il Gatopardo (where they seem to know how to de-bone a fish). Don't even get me started on the rude the waiter captain who wouldn't divide up the pastas we ordered for the table."

"We were looking so forward to our dinner at Babbo. Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by the host - we were early for our reservation so they asked that we sit at the bar. The bartender was inhospitable - I felt that he did not want us at his bar.
Our waiter in the dining room was pleasant. Our meal was a let down - The goose liver ravioli, the balsamic vinegar was overpowering. The octopus and rabbit were mediocre, even the bread and the olive oil were disappointing.
I cannot recommend this restaurant."

"I ordered the beef cheek ravioli, grilled octopus, and olive oil cake with olive oil gelato. We shared a side dish of green peas. The ravioli was excellent. The octopus was extremely salty. The cake and gelato were pretty good. The peas were meally and bland, not sweet like I expected; not sure why Babbo even offered it.

I loved my first experience (for dinner) at Babbo so I brought guests this time. They seemed fine with their selections: crostini, branzino, gnocchi, saffron panna cotta but they weren't blown away."

"We had a wonderful experience at Babbo. The wine list is extensive with plenty of varieties and price points to choose from, the menu was vast without being overwhelming, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and unpretentious. My husband and I arrived early for a drink at the (very small) bar followed by an absolutely delicious dinner. Everything was cooked just right - the octopus was the best my husband has ever had, the pastas were fantastic - we tried the bucatini, and the Brasato al Barolo was one of the most tender meat dishes I've ever had. We will certainly make our way back!"

"We ate at Babbo as a family of four with two children (7 and 3). We are used to some of the more energetic NY places finding children a nuisance. Babbo unfortunately is the same. When my wife showed up 5 minutes early the response of John (Maitre D) was "go and stand at the bar"...with two children. After pulling faces like he was constipated he let them sit at the table. When I turn up the greeting I received was.."take your jacket off" (he presumably thought it was a coat). Just overall not a good feeling for what was a 500 USD meal. The food was divine and the service was good after that. I cant help but think the fact we were the only non white people there was factor in our treatment. Sad to see such attitudes still exist."

"We were there for mid-week lunch and the place was busy but had a relaxed vibe. My beet salad was very good; the black spaghetti was too dry and bland but improved greatly with a few squeezes of lemon and some salt. My dining companion's cockles and orrechiette were both very good. Lunch portions were on the small side but satisfying."

"I took my friends from out of town there for a weekday lunch. We ordered just the right amount of food for 3 hungry people, 2 apps, 3 pastas, 1 seafood, 1 meat dish and 3 deserts. Everything was good but not necessarily memorable. However, I order a pasta dish that was probably one of the best I've had - Pappardelle with Chanterelles. I was trying to stop my friends from eating off my plate. It's a simple dish but the cheese and the mushrooms went great with fresh pasta. highly recommended.

The service was great as expected. The waiter chose an excellent bottle of wine that was exactly what I asked for at a very reasonable price.

Definitely go back and just sit at the bar for a good pasta dish."

"Babbo lives up to the hype. I took my parents who are very picky eaters and it was a wonderful evening. The food was delicious. Staff was really educated on the menu and very hospitable. I haven't had that pleasant of a dinning experience in a while."

"Pasta was dreadful. Perhaps the kitchen staff was ready to go home. Worse yet the music was ear splitting, impossible talk over or escape from. Some sort of heavy metal style. Perhaps the wait staff controls the music. The food was mediocre at best. We've eaten there before but will not revisit"

"The food was very bland, we all thought so. There was nothing we could recommend to anyone to eat in the future. Very disappointing since we are big foodies and love to try all the famous resuarants. There are a lot of Italian restaurants that are far better than this one."

"My wife and I went for lunch to celebrate her birthday and we had a great time.The service was excellent,food was great and we enjoyed ourselves.Although pretty crowded for lunch we never felt rushed and had time to taste and talk about each others choices.We would definitely go again."

"Finally made it to Babbo and it was a great experience!

My favorite dish was the papardelle with wild boar ragu, but everything we tried was great.

The staff was excellent.

Wine menu was extensive.

"We were excited to eat at Babbo, having heard glowing reviews since the beginning of time and having enjoyed other Batali treasures. Babbo was incredibly disappointing, the food was just okay- there wasn't one dish that stood out, not even the famed Beef Cheek Ravioli, and, while our server was wonderful, the sommelier was rude and painfully bleak in every way. He put a damper on our dining experience from beginning through the end, scolding me for bending the wine list (what?!), addressing my male dinner partners over me (I'm female and have formal wine training), and trying to cheerlessly up-sell us at every point. We were very disappointed, and won't be back. On a positive note, the desserts were delicious."

"Andy Hayler gives Babbo's food 3/10 and Jean George a 7/10. I much prefer Babbo's food. Batali delivers simple straight forward rustic Italian food that has a ton of flavor using top quality ingredients. All three of our main courses received an A rating which is very rare even at Per Se or Le Bernardin. The house made Garganelli with “Funghi Trifolati” was excellent, the Spaghetti w/ ramps had a wonderful smokey flavor and perfectly adente, and The Red Snapper w/ pesto and Black trumpet mushrooms was fantastic. I do not care much about service but here it stood out without being overbearing. The Chocolate Hazelnut Cake with Orange Sauce and Hazelnut Gelato was an "A "desert. For those who care about flavor over pretense Babbo is it."

"Has Babbo lost its Verve? Getting a table at Babbo is difficult so it should be an extraordinary. Maybe our expectations were too high but we found the food to be quite good but neither a cut above other area Italian restaurants nor a transcendental experience. We had the tasting menu which consisted of excellent buffalo mozzarella, a few grilled ramps and a big piece of toast with some good olive oil. Second course was a minute portion of pasta with stinging nettle pesto- good but not fantastic. Third course was a quite ordinary piece of thin pork with a nice onion marmalade. Finish was an olive oil/almond cake- ok but again just not spectacular. Service was excellent, the wine pairing very nice and there was a celebrity sighting."
