Chef Christophe Bonnegrace will delight you with French classics, taking you on a journey through Provence and reflecting the surrounding coastal Mediterranean flavors, including the chef’s and owner’s family recipes. The atmosphere is 1920s Parisian Brasserie with original décor from the period; designed and built by hand by owner Angelo Peruzzi who grew up in France.
The 74-seat dining room is wrapped by 21 French doors that provide panoramic views of the neighborhood and 59-seat sidewalk café. The bar features one of the largest seamless pewter countertops in the country and warm custom backlighting fabricated by the owners. The triangular shaped room and giant handmade mirror collages provide unique and wide views to every seat in the room while retaining an intimate feel. Guests dine on luxurious red leather banquettes and cushioned chairs while they listen to music programmed on one of the finest restaurant sound systems and room acoustics in the City.
"Have been to La Vilette several times and this was my first time for brunch. On a nice day,the outside seating is lovely. Service is good, friendly and food does not disappoint. The baked pastries are okay and the waiter was kind enough to bring us a fourth. Only comment is that I love jam with my croissants and none to be found.Hardly a deal breaker!"

"A friend and I decided to give this place a try for dinner. We arrived at 6:30; happy hour is until 8. Bizarrely the waiter (who was extremely nice) at first told us that we could not order happy hour drinks where we were sitting (outside) as they were only served at identical tables a few feet away from us (which was not the bar - I could have kind of understood that). As we were planning to order dinner too, this seemed really silly so he agreed to let us have happy hour drinks AND dinner. The cocktail was delicious; the food less so - overcooked, very large mussels and very oily fries many of which were extremely hard. Service was excellent though. I recommend this place for happy hour; if you're going to eat, avoid the mussels."

"We've dined at La Villette 5 or 6 times this year, and every dinner has been very enjoyable: wonderful food, prepared to perfection with fresh ingredients; service that is attentive, yet not overbearing; relaxed atmosphere; and acoustics that make conversations at the table easy on the ears. It's everything a restaurant should be; a true "neighborhood gem" that we travel far from our neighborhood to enjoy. Although I seldom eat dessert, I can't resist La Villette's "tarte aux pommes", it's better than any I had in France!"

"We made a reservation through Opentable for 9:15 pm and were not seated until 10:30 pm!!! They did not give us enough information when we got there to even give us an idea that it would be this long of wait. Don't trust this restaurant when booking on opentable."

"The food was outstanding. I had the Lapin(rabbit)which was a large portion of meat in a delicious and unusual very delicate mustard and olive sauce. My wife had the veal tenderloin which was cooked perfectly medium rare and presented on a bed of interesting vegetables in a delicious sauce. As an appetizer we shared the rillettes of duck and rabbit. In place of desert we had a cheese board which was beautifully presented with three cheeses and sliced pear and other fruit. Our waiter immediately noticed that one of the cheeses was not what we ordered and he swiftly came back with the missing cheese. Overall, our French waiter was very friendly and helpful and his support staff were also very efficient."

"The room is very comfortable and well lit. The floor staff was polite and attentive; the kitchen needs help. With a half empty dining room it took 45 minutes for appetizers and another hour for entrees. Lobster and scallop tartare had raw scallops and cooked lobster. I asked why. The Chef (through the waiter) explained that the lobster "oxidizes quickly" and would actually be unsafe to serve as a tartare. Not actually true; just needs to be very fresh. A rabbit dish was overcooked to the point of being substantially inedible (The saddle shredded when I took a knife to it). A veal dish was unremarkable and arrived cold. Salad Nicoise and salmon dishes were well executed. Far better experiences are available for the same money nearby."

"La Villette had a real French bistro feel--and that was exactly what we were looking for. Food was very good--the main courses we had were filet mignon and salmon, plus we had appetizers/side orders of octopus, mushrooms, grilled peppers, and an excellent creme brulee. My friend and I had met in France and this place made us feel like we were almost in Paris again. (Plus there were a lot of French people there, always a good sign.)"

"French bistro style restaurant in an attractive room previously occupied by 10 Downing Street. Although our drink orders were taken quickly we waited 20 minutes for bread, even after asking for it, and the overall service was generally poor even though the restaurant was less than half occupied. I started with grilled octopus, which was fine. Main course was poulet, which was tasty but a very small portion, and spinach which was oversalted. My wife had the leeks, which were drenched in sauce and not particularly good, followed by the salmon which she enjoyed. Just 2 glasses of wine and no dessert or coffee but we still exceeded $100, which is no bargain. The music was too loud and the tables are pretty cramped. We are not rushing to go back"

"We were delighted with La Villette. It's not Paris, but it's got the Parisian charm and a very good (although not extensive) menu. The leek appetizer was outstanding, as was the lobster and escargot (yes!) vol au vent. The entrecote main course was bigger and better than what you'd normally get in a French bistro, and the accompanying herbed butter and two sauces were overkill. A veal tenderloin steak with mushrooms was also fine. Prices are reasonable, given the quality. The service is exceptionally attentive and warm."

"My wife and I visited on a recent "day in the city," and enjoyed our restaurant choice, and having chosen based on previous reviews. It was a popular spot at 7:15 on a Saturday evening, tables mostly filled with a good energy in the room. The wait staff was good, and helped us decide on our order. Overall the food was prepared and presented well, definitely with a French flare for creme sauces, butters, and cheese. We were in the mood to re-experience some fond memories of a trip to France, and felt like for a couple hours, we did."

"I am so happy that La Villette opened up in my neighborhood. Finally I have a spot that has GREAT food, GREAT booze and a GREAT ambiance. It's hard to find a place like this that's not $32 for a scoop of raw tuna.
Insider info: their baguette is from a French patisserie. Aka. It's a real baguette."

"La Villette is a true French bistro, simple and elegant. The menue reflects the taste of the owners, good French home cooking brought to a restaurant level. Musts on the menu is the beef tartare, rabbit and veal to mention a few. Excellent wine list and great bartenders who will whip up one of the signature drinks or your personal favorite."

"We had reservations for 8:30 and didn't get seated until 9:15. They kept apologizing but didn't make any effort to make us comfortable. The least they could do was offer us a drink from the bar free of charge. The food was good but the service was really atrocious. It took us forever to even get menus let alone bread when we were already starving.
Then when we just wanted to leave it took forever to get the check. Very disappointing for the ridiculous price we paid."

"This is bistro fare not haute cuisine and this will be your new favorite place. The decor very cool the room is curved so that you look out on a busy street without feeling anything other than an upbeat urban setting without the noise. Our table had a view of the Empire State Building. Management visible without being imposing. They really want this place to work and they talked to us after the meal about our experience. My cocktail La Villette vodka fruit basil balsamic was crisp and light. The tomato tart had a mustard undertone and the salmon was delicious and a good portion. The steak was flavorful. It's cliche but the flavors are layered and subtle. Price is reasonable if this is in your neighborhood you are lucky!"

The restaurant is very attractive and comfortable. Don't be put off if it's not packed with people...hopefully this place will catch on due to the excellent quality of food."

"Not expecting a special, limited menu so at first we were upset. However, the choices were good and they were willing to make some small changes to accomodate us. Besides everything was simply delicious. We cannot wait to go back and order off of the full menu. We also had a wonderful, friendly waitress. A good wine by the glass list was also a plus."

"Food was amazing. Service was below average for this price range. Had a reservation for 9:00, wasn't seated until 9:10. Waited almost an hour after our appetizers for our main course to arrive. Inattentive service. Rude waiters pushing past people to rush out food because the floor design is terrible. But... romantic atmosphere, delicious food, and great wine."

"Extremely expensive! It was St. Valentin and that had a pre-fixed menù of 50$ But then I ended up paying 180$ in two!!!!I asked for 2 glasses of prosecco and the waiter made fun of me in front of my wife saying I should get champagne instead (20$ per glass instead of 10! Which at that point was embarassing).Food was mediocre with limited selection. The place has nothing special. Just a room facing the street with some French poster.I do not recommend this place. It is horrible."
