"We were visiting DC and went to Firefly on a recommendation. We had no idea what a treat we were in for. Our children (6&8) received cookies to decorate as soon as we sat down. They bake them and return them at the end of the meal. My husband and I were thrilled to get some fantastic cocktails. The food was over the top, everybody was happy. We travel a lot as a family but this has been deemed the kids' all time favorite restaurant. Absolutely brilliant!"

"Our dinner at Firefly was great. I had organized a few client events there in the past, so knew the food was good but my girlfriend had never been. To start, we didn't have a cocktails but did have a mocktail, which was equally good. The cosmos weren't overly sweet and the juice was fresh. The food was great- we had the seasonal potato soup (the crispy kale garnish was a nice touch), the kale salad (this was a favorite for both of us due to the smoked nuts that gave it a great pop of flavor when you hit one), shrimp and grits, and the eggplant moussaka. Very vegetarian friendly although the meat dishes also looked good. We could easily talk to one another without yelling even though the restaurant was busy."

"Always happy to find a place with a lively atmosphere and decently sized portions of carefully prepared, delicious food. The seasonal menu offerings are pretty diverse. There was something for everyone in our group. We're looking forward to the spring menu!"

"Reservation was for 7:30 and we called to come earlier which was not a problem. Food was "good" but not great. Terrible acoustics!! Noise level increased to the point that the 4 of us were screaming our conversations. Not sure that we would go back again."

"Took my parents to Firefly for Mother's Day Brunch. It was very crowded and felt cramped- almost as if they brought in extra tables for Mother's Day. I ordered the Chesapeake Eggs Benedict (eggs Benedict with a crab cake). At $21, it was the most expensive thing on the brunch menu but was TINY- only one small crab cake, one egg, and hardly any sauce. My dad's salmon burger and mom's pancakes were huge, but I was very disappointed in the portion size and proportion of sauce."

"This restaurant has wonderful food and the wait staff is very attentive. But, for such a nice place, it is EXTREMELY noisy, so much so that everyone is shouting in order to be heard. If they did something to mitigate the noise problem, I would consider dining there more often. But when the ambient sound level is so high it wears you out."

"I came with a brunch group on Saturday around 12:30 and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. This is my 4th time in as many months having brunch there, and I've never been disappointed. From the moment I walked in the door the hostesses were very welcoming and upbeat, checking me in for my reservation even though my whole party wasn't there. After half of us arrived we were seated and the server immediately came by with coffee and told us about Firefly's weekend special of $2 mimosas.

The food was excellent, I got the sausage gravy and biscuits with thyme and bacon on the side. French toast is great too and 3 people ordered (and loved!) the "Snake Eyes" meal with the eggs on the toast!

Thanks to everyone at Firefly for a great brunch!"

"I quite enjoyed my meal at Firefly. The ambiance is very sweet and Southern. The food is elevated down-home cooking. I ordered a braised goat and grits meal, which was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the house specialty mini pot roast, which was perfect. Each of us didn't need to use a knife because the meat was so tender. We capped the night off with a very tasty red velvet cake. Everything was prepared perfectly.

We both ordered cocktails from the bar, too. Both of our drinks were fun and inventive takes on classic drinks.

As per service, we waited a very, very long time between our salad and our entrees. It was a busy night and we were enjoying ourselves, but we were quite ravenous when our food finally arrived."

"Very good food with surprising variety given the relatively small menu. Not a place for a romantic dinner as tables are very close together and noise leval resembles the Verizon Center during the third period of a close Cap's game. However, if you are looking for a fun place to have dinner with a small group of friends and you do not want to break the bank, Firefly is a solid choice."

"It took 15 minutes to get cocktails but once the matire'd knew we were displeased he and his staff followed through with much generosity (two free rounds of drinks after that!). The steak was well-seasoned if not the best cut of meat. The kale salad and stuffed dates are excellent! Carrot and ginger soup a little bland... and unless you're really into something fishy, I'd avoid the Octopus quinoa.

The ambiance is gorgeous but I think we were there on a rowdy night-- not a place for quiet conversation."

"Firefly has delicious, comfort food to feed the soul! The atmosphere is very lively and a great place for small groups to dine, at a table or the bar area. The decor is delightful and cozy, with a giant tree in the middle of the restaurant with "roots" and "branches" that extend throughout the restaurant. I'd recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious meal, that is well portioned and served quickly."

"Very trendy bar scene and great sounding menu. Decor is a super cool tree/ wood theme, bar is trendy and busy but the food was very expensive and not good at all. I ordered some deep fried cheese balls that when presented were plated to look amazing, but I sent them back because they were frozen inside. I also got a lettuce wedge which didn't taste fresh.. The lettuce tasted bitter like it was about to spoil and finally my husband got risotto ... He said it was good but wasn't the best he's ever had and for $27 it should have been amazing... After all $27 for some rice is expensive. Bottom line... Go for the bar scene, don't go for the food."

"This was the second time I went for dinner and it proved that the first time was not a fluke. This place has outstanding food. My wiffe had the pot roast which she said was fabulous and that's high praise considering she set her grandmother's recipie as the ba--which is a high one. Fun atmosphere and great farm to table menu. Don't overlook the deviled eggs as an appetizer--they were a great start to a fun dinner."

"This was a really nice place to take my family to. They had a good selection of menu items for everyone. I had the market fish (salmon), but the squid ink quinoa was tasteless. My family had better luck with the halibut. The desserts were nice, as was the salad. But overall really pricey for the serving size. Would probably go back but not order dessert."

"The menu does not have a big variety, especially for non-meat eaters. The Parmesan truffle fries are amazing though. I would eat at the restaurant again but would for drinks and bar food. Restaurant was pretty noisy (even for a Saturday night)."

"If I can make a better poached egg, crabcake, and french toast...then the chef needs some new recipes or this cute restaurant needs to hire some help for the chef. An overwhelmed chef is a poor chef. The poached egg yolks were solid, the crabcake was over done, the french toast was soggy, and the polenta cake was so thick it wasn't even warm. Also, $6 for a cup of tea, seriously? Tea, even loose leaf, should not be that expensive. Finally, we were first sat in the back room where it was blowing cold air. The restaurant was clearly not full and I made a reservation. Reservation should mean prime seating, not in the back corner where it's cold. We did ask to turn up the heat and they moved us into the main dining room."

"Locally grown/organic and supports local area farms. Food is great and always has great flavors. Service however is sub-par, SOLELY because I do not think the waiters have good etiquette. It seemed have never waited at this type of restaurant before. We were constantly interrupted so he could ask us questions. He was friendly and nice, but literally, we would be in the middle of a conversation and we were interrupted every time he came to the table... even to refill water. Typically I do not make these types of posts and by no means am I saying not to eat here. But I would like to see better service for a place where entrees are $25-$32 and average meal is over $70/person if you eat three courses and have a drink or two."

"The food was excellent and the ambiance was nice. It had a rustic feel which I enjoyed. However our server was a bit slow getting us the drinks and checking to see how the food was. It was not til the end when we were almost done with everything that he asked. Also, when I asked for a second mimosa it took him 15 minutes to get my drink which I had to flag him down to even ask for a second drink and he seemed annoyed that I wanted another drink, probably because of the $2 mimosa special at brunch. It was not even that busy when we got there. Overall food and ambiance was good but service leaves little to be desired at all."

"Firefly can always be counted on for a great meal. With that said it is pretty pricy for what you get. The noise is also an issue. This is not a place I would go for a romantic dinner, but the food is excellent."

"A friend and I decided to try Firefly after seeing it featured on Open Table. From the reviews and pictures it looked like a hip, cozy place. I have to say, the decorations are the place's best feature. We were seated by the windows, which was a nice, out of the way location, but maybe would also explain the long gaps in check-ins from our waiter. My friend is a vegetarian, but not an adventurous one, so she had a little trouble choosing a meal. The salad she ended up getting was tiny - definitely not meant to be a meal (despite costing $14). My burger was a better value at $18, but a bit overwhelming - with a fried pickle pinned on top and greasy extras inside. It was also very loud. DC definitely won this round."

"great food, but service not great. we ordered drinks at the bar then were told that our table was ready and the bartender said she'd have them out to us. Well, when we sat down the server said he had our drinks coming, then asked us what we ordered. Long story short, we didn't get our first round of drinks until after we finished our first course of 5 appetizers. The server was obviously very busy, and he was very personable and attentive, but it looked like there could have been a little better leadership."

"They accommodated us nicely when we showed up as 9 instead of 6. Two LOVED the pork cheek stroganoff, and 2 very much liked the pot roast. One overdone burger was the only clinker. Noise is a problem in the restaurant, but it shouldn't prevent you from going. Highly recommend."

"Went for dinner and it was so loud I could not hear the people beside me. I requested a table away from the kitchen and we were sat next to the kitchen. It took a long time to get drinks and the "family style" sides came when we were almost done with our entrees. I had been there for lunch a few times and it was more quiet. I'd go there again for a one on one lunch, but go before the rush to ensure quite and better service. The food was SO GOOD but the experience was not worth it. There is also no parking near-by so that is a nightmare."

The food is delicious; they're always updating their menu to highlight new seasonal dishes, the cocktail menu is innovative, and the service is always top notch.
