"I love the food at Sammy's. it's always very good. I think the waitress station being in the open restaurant takes away from the experience/ambiance there. It's loud when dishes are dropped in the basket and it looks unprofessional. We did have a very good dinner and the staff was friendly. K"

"The food, service and ambience are all below any reasonable expectation. The table linen was soiled, the food was late in arriving, of poor quality and the ingredients of poor taste. The server was disinterested and unhelpful. We had the Maitre'd take our check since the server had disappeared. The TV at the bar was loud. The construction of the dining area (high ceilings, metal surfaces ) makes all sound difficult, intrusive and renders conversation difficult. Although the location is convenient to the Baltimore Symphony Hall, the experience nullifies that benefit."

"Within easy asking distance from the Amtrak station, we have been coming here for an early dinner for years. The food and service is simply great as is the wine list. This is a great find and I can only say great things about the xperience."

"Food was great, extensive menu selections, service very attentive. Great atmosphere, especially with our seat upstairs overlooking the main floor, although floor plan was a little tight. It does get very loud though! Server was very attuned to the fact that we had a 930 show and was efficient. As we were leaving we noticed they had an outdoor dining area and we would most definitely go back in the summertime for that!"

"Due to an event at the Meyerhoff, we waited an hour for our food, which has happened before. I was served my salad but my husband did not get his Antipasto (a cold dish). He told the waitress after about 45 minutes to cancel it. She was overwhelmed. Plus our table was so close to the people next to us you could hear everything they were saying. To add to the misery it cost us $8.00 (plus tip) to valet park. It is extremely hard to find a parking spot within blocks of the place. The good food is not worth the hassle."

"First time at Sammy's. Had a reservation two months in advance prior to a show yet we ended up crammed in a corner next to another table for two that had 3 people squeezed in. So much for ambiance. A large party came in 10 minutes after we ordered and all of our service came to a screeching halt. We didn't get served our meals for over an hour. Food was good but we had to stuff it in and skip desert and coffee to make our show. Not what you expect when you budget 90 minutes for dinner. Also, the waitress made little attempt to accommodate us or apologize. So much for service. Won't be going back to a place that has no concept of customer service!"

"This was the 2nd time that we made made reservations thru Open Table and then got a call in the afternoon saying there was some mixup with Open Table and that we would have to sit at the bar if we still wanted to come. Then we were told that if we were going to the symphony we should always make reservations for no later than 5:45 (2 hours and 15 minutes before the performance) in order to have the proper dining experience. The guy on the phone was not very warm and friendly during the conversation. Then when we got there the guy at the reception stand was dressed in a baseball hat, shorts and athletic jersey when everyone in the restaurant was dressed business casual. Food was good but total experience wasn't."

"I keep going back because I really enjoy the food but the bad service was the waitress this time, not the back up in the kitchen. I don't think she got one think right."

"We had a major problem, unlike I've ever experienced, with service. We ordered straightforward and simple dishes at 6:30 pm and were then told at 7:30 pm that one dish was unavailable. Morever, we had to make an 8:00 pm show at the Lyric and asked to expedite the food, which after one hour still had not arrived. They finally rushed some pasta we hadn't ordered and a salad to our table which we were barely able to eat because of the shortage of time. Adding insult to injury, the check took some time to get, and while we expected some type of accommodation (e.g., complimentary drinks)owing to the unexplained and substantial delay, we found none when the bill finally arrived. Too bad, because the food was good, but service was horrendous."

"My previous experiences fit the bill but for a night when the theatre was open, the restaurant was fully booked yet they only had 2 servers. Had to wait for a wine glass, although our bottle was on the table because they were being washed. The veal parmesan also left alot to be desired unfortunately. Food took 50 minutes to come out so no time for dessert and coffee before the show. Wont be heading back."

"Unfortunately they did not have the wine that we wanted. We were told they are changing some of the details for selling wine. The substitute was good so that was what mattered in the end."

"My husband and I visited Sammy’s this past weekend for dinner before a concert. We had dined there twice before and found the food tasty and the service OK. Well, things have switched at Sammy’s. Our server was excellent; the food however was another story. My husband ordered one the specials which was a crab topped fillet. While the fillet was excellent, the crab on top tasted very old. Had we not been in a time crunch, it should have been sent back. I ordered the veal Masala. The quality of the veal was excellent and tender. The sauce however tasted so sweet it should have been on the dessert menu. For dessert we had the Lemoncello cheesecake. I love Lemoncello but the sauce has so much lemon peel in it was almost inedible. Lastly, I was"

"My Husband and I were pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. We were going to an early movie and were able to get a reservation last minute. The food was great as was the service and atmosphere. The only drawback was a very noisy table of 8 or 10 people. I don't know if there is anything any restaurant can do about that."

"We discovered Sammy's shortly after moving in to the neighborhood and it is - without a doubt - our favorite italian restaurant in Baltimore. We love it so much we'll be hosting our rehearsal dinner there the night before our wedding.Every dish I've had has been spectacular, with special mentions going to the Penne Vodka, Chicken a la Tony & Tina, and the Chicken Parmigiana. House salad is a caesar-like creation that's unique and delicious. The tiramisu is the best I've had, better than anything I've had in Italy. Servers are friendly and efficient. Great atmosphere."

"Terrible experience: we tried to increase reserv to 4 people by phone- man that answered put phone own and never returned. The restaurant did seat us at table for 4 however. We were seated on time. Ordered at approx 6:50. Told waitress we were making a 8 PM show at Meyerhof we were given bread, water, and 2 ordered wine.at 7:35 we left without ever eating any food! 3 of us had ordered salads! We were told that our food was nowhere near being ready. Perhaps we wanted to return after the show??? Maybe patrons need to be told to allow 3 hours or more for dinner!. We also kept trying to get attention of hostess and/or waitress- they would see us waving and ignore us! We finally got up to confront the waitress! One positive note- we were com"

"It wasn't even that crowded on a Sunday night & very poor service! Wait staff needs to learn how to wait tables properly. Waiter wanted to take our order before we got our drinks. Bartender was also seating people & answering phones. Food quality was okay........a big disappointment for what they are charging for their meals! They need to get their "act together"!!"

"I really wanted to like Sammy’s. I’ve lived in Baltimore for 4 years and had never been. I took my husband for his birthday on a Sunday evening, 6pm reservations. When we arrived (on time) we stood at the host stand for almost 10 minutes before being acknowledged by anyone, finally the bartender came out to greet and show us to our table. There were only 4 people (2 couples) at the bar at this time, so it didn’t appear to be extremely busy. We asked to sit upstairs as it seemed more intimate; the main dining room had a fair amount of people. Shortly after we were seating, a gentlemen came over and placed bread on the table which was warm and yummy. There were already full glasses of water on each table (not a fan of that). About 20 minutes"

"Food was good, as always. However, a very large group and other large tables contributed to not only a noisy evening but a very long wait for our meal. First time we've ever had a less than positive dining experience here."

"Celebrated my boyfriends birthday here and he enjoyed every part of the experience. Our server Josh was very busy but he didnt let it show and he was veyr attentive. He even brought out the cake with the candles at the end of our meal and sang happy birthday to him! Our cocktails and wine were very satisfying. The portions were absolutely filling and not your typical portion size for a restaurant of this caliber. The evening was special from begining to end. Even the valet was wonderful! This neighborhood gem is not to be missed!"

"We have been to Sammy's several times and enjoyed a wonderful meal, maybe this visit was just an off night. Our food was good but not a delicious as our previous visits and our service was somewhat less than expected. However, all this being said we would give Sammy's another try."

"No service the first 15 min. Then Wrong menu was provided. One of three cocktails brought ten minutes later. Long time until dinner order was taken. Not well advised on items they no longer had. Took a very long time to serve dinner. Yet this is located close to the symphony and theatre, so is an option before that. The whole meal had a plus - the suspense of whether we would order our food and actually be served it before we had to leave."
