"Great Greek food, similar to that which I've had in other US cities, and in Greece. Negatives were the noise level, and the price. However, I've not found comparable Greek food in the Bay area at any price. So...bite the bullet, enjoy the food and service, don't try to talk, and enjoy the experience."

"My partner and I went to Evvia for his birthday dinner. We had a salad and a selection of mezethes (small plates). The food was excellent, although a dinner of mezethes turns out to be very rich. I thought The crispy zucchini cakes and the swordfish skewer were particularly good. The sokolatina dessert was delicious. The restaurant seems quite noisy but we actually had no trouble hearing each other. The service was excellent; friendly and attentive."

"A disappointment. We had a reservation but had to sit at the end of a communal table. The waiter nearly insisted we try the most expensive glass of wine which was like Gallo jug wine. The calamari was spongy. This place seems to have gone down hill."

"The place was hoping when we got there so we had to wait about 20 minutes after our reservation time. When we did get a table the service started immediately. We were undecided which entree to start with so the waiter asked if he could surprise us, he brought us 5 different dishes that we finished with delight. Of course for our main course we had to try the lamb chops also which were perfect. 2 hours later we were finally finished eating and enjoying ourselves, we both could not believe how much time had past. As we looked around to finally notice the place was almost empty and had been closed for 30 min we made our exit. We had no idea that the place closed as none of the staff came over to try and get us to leave. A perfect experience!"

"Valentine dinner was fabulous. "We had a very tasty dinner. The roasted chicken is wonderful. We also had the special of the evening, roasted leg of lamb. Also very good, but might have benefited from a light sauce. We had to wait for about 20 minutes for our table even though we had a reservation. The management was very apologetic and offered us champagne cocktails on the house.
All in all a lovely evening in a warm and pleasing atmosphere."

"We thought that the food was great but the service poor. The waiter kept forcing family style on us no matter how much we protested. He rushed our ordering - interpreting every question as that was what we wanted. Finally, he got both our orders completely wrong. And we realized after getting home that he billed us for his mistake - had us eating 3 entrees rather than two when he brought us the wrong entree. When we called the restaurant to get it taken off our bill, they just took down our information vs. doing it immediately. We asked them to call when they had done it and still haven't. Huge pain after a bad experience to begin with."

"We made a reservation for a thursday evening. we arrived 30 min late, partially due to the difficulty in finding parking. they do have valet for $6.00.
we were seated within 10 min but warned we had only one hour to dine as our table was reserved for another couple.The restaurant is very tightly packed and it was full. so the volume was loud for my taste. I had anticipated an evening with intimate conversation. it was difficult to speak at a normal low voice. the privacy factor was non existent due to the crowding so I was conscious that what I was saying could be easily overheard.the food was very tasty, arrived in a timely matter, the waiters attentive. the cost was a bit high for the amount of food.the servings on the small side."

"Can't go wrong for upscale Greek at Evvia. If you like lamb then Evvia is a must. Their fresh fish dishes are also tough to pass-up if lamb isn't your fare. Salads are divine and big if you want greens. Enjoyed the Morgan Pinot too as they have an extensive wine list from $20 - $200+.

Dessert? Never did anything other than the filio dish with pistachio ice cream and their classic greek coffee."

"The restaurant was noisy with somewhat loud music, but my companion and I were given a simple corner table in a nook, which blocked out some of the noise. We found this table to be just right for us.
The waiter was also likable and helpful with our menu and with the specials for the evening.
We had two appetizers and two special entrees of roasted whole fish. The food was excellently prepared. Our house wine of Chardonnay was a good accompaniment.
We ended our meal with the delightful expresso cup of Greek coffee
All in all, a very good experience."

"Our waiter suggested an excellent Cab and Port, and was very knowledgeable about food choices and pairings. My sea bass was slightly overcooked, but the beans and mushrooms in truffle oil were fantastic, and my dining companion's beef was cooked perfectly. As always the saganaki was amazing! My only real complaint was that our reservation time was at 8:30 and we weren't seated until 9; additionally the bar was very crowded so we were unable to sit at the bar and have a drink before dinner, and were stuck in the narrow space in the entryway, on a very cold night."

"I usually order the lamb when I'm at Evvia and it's excellent. We ordered the lamb riblets (?) appetizer and it was so good. The calamari wasn't as good as I remembered it being the time before. This is another restaurant where the bartender knows how to make an excellent mojito -- so hard to find. Evvia is a little tight and noisy for my taste, but nice to do lunch."

"We booked our reservations online and requested a "quiet table," despite reading reviews that this was a noisy restaurant. Also read that the food was quite salty. We were delighted when the hostess seated us at a quiet table for 4 in a sea of noisy, tightly located tables. We did not find the food to be salty. "Evvia is an energetic, Greek/country home ambiance-filled restaurant perfect for a special occasion. The service is attentive and personal, with the Greek-born owner/manager showing an easy laugh and unassuming nature to make sure everything is going well, or a great wine recommendation. It is pretty pricey (for 2 w/ 2 apps, 2 entree's and a dessert, $70 bottle of wine and a good tip total a tad over $200). Worth it for a special occassion, and definitely didn't have to spend that much. Much energy with an open kitchen with remarkable, subtle, Greek-country style decoration, but subdued enough to have a conversation easily. Memorable dinner without a doubt."

"Unacceptable 20 minute wait for a 6:30 p.m. reservation for two, but, after complaining, apologetic manager comped us free cocktails and appetizers and ensured we had an efficient and attentive waiter. Food has always been very good here but I stopped coming for a while on principle because there have been many times when I've had to wait for 15 to 20 minutes with a reservation. "Guests stay longer on a Friday night" is not an excuse. If they know that's the case, then they should space the reservations accordingly. If I arrive 20 minutes late for a reservation, they would have given my table away on a busy night."

"My wife and I have been patronizing Evvia's for some time now. The service is outstanding and very attentive. One could make a dinner out of the plethora of tasty appetizers. Three or four appetizers with a salad and of course a beverage of your choosing would be the direction to take if small plates are your gig. The main dishes of course, are to die for. Anything from the grill is going to be a melt in your mouth experience. From the grilled Napa Lamb to the slow roasted lamb shanks there is not a bad choice in the bunch. If chicken or fish is your thing you will never be disappointed. I highly recommend a visit to Evvia and make sure you make reservations. Don't forget to save room for dessert.

"The host was very patronizing and rude. I have dined at this restaurant for many years and have always been greeted with respect when checking in. This time was an exception. The host appears to be a 'new' addition to the staff. I requested a booth for dinner since my daughter was sleeping. The host cut me off mid sentence with an extremely rude remark. I was so upset and irritated. The restaurant was only about 20% capacity when we arrived and he could not accommodate my request or refused to do so. My husband wanted to leave and dine elsewhere, but since we were meeting friends there, decided to stay. Although the food and service was better, we will no longer be patrons at this restaurant."

"Food was excellent. This was our 4th visit to Evvia and we will go back again for sure. The service was very good with attentive staff. Ambiance was good with a warm and welcoming feel to the decor and seating. Noise level was high and it has always been high in this restaurant. But this is not much different from other similar restaurants these days. On the menu we have always enjoyed the grilled whole fish as well as the rotisserie selections. They do a great job with all the meat selections in general. The appetizers are also great especially the swordfish skewers and lamb meatballs."

"We love the sister restaurant Kokkari so everything was on a high level of competition. It came in a close second to Kokkari. The lay out of the restaurant is a little cramped and the bar area isn’t a sufficient waiting spot for your table. But overall it was excellent from food to service. Once we sat down it was very comfortable with great lighting and the Mediterranean feel took me back to the big Sea."

"It was a pretty cold night when we were dinning at Evvia. Our table was directly facing the door. Ever time someone open the door, the cold breeze blow directly into us. "This restaurant was just exceptional in every way. The greeters are friendly, the wait staff efficient, and the food fabulous. We started with the appetizer sampler (not on the menu but volunteered by our server), which consisted of three dips and two dolmas. It was tastey, fresh, and beautifully presented. My only regret was that I would have ordered more dolmas, they were that good. My lamb sandwich was served with a side salad with a wonderful oregano-lemon vinagerette. The lamb was well seasoned, and my husband enjoyed his ahi tuna sandwich too. We will definitely be back. Be sure to make a reservation, as the place was packed. And do save room for dessert. The concoction filled with semolina custard with pistachio ice cream."

"Evvia continues to be one of the most outstanding places to dine in the Bay Area. No matter what the choice of food for a particular meal, we have never been disappointed. The service is also outstanding.
We are so glad they are open again after the fire and that they have retained everything as is. There are very few places one can return to that are as good as they remember - Evvia is one of them."

"Our waiter, Matt, did an excellent job despite having to deal with large party next to us and another party being in rush. He was still attentive to our needs and made the experience very pleasant. The food was excellent - this was our first time; but everything we tried tasted very fresh and flavorful without being overly seasoned."
