This beachfront cafe boasts indoor and outdoor seating, a causal but sophisticated bar and fresh California dishes from Seared Ahi Tuna and Shaved Prime Rib to the popular Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. Open early morning to late evening, with an impressive Happy Hour, savory weekend brunches and Wednesday Farmer's Market dinners, Coast is the place to dine, drink and relax at the beach.
"Went there for breakfast with high expectations given the reputation of the hotel. Nice location but overrated and overprized. Were with 6 people placed at a 4 person table in a shabby corner (despite reservation). No match at all with what the hotel wants to be. Service slow, hugh sucking up but has little to do with service. Food was okay but overprized ($6 for a single boiled egg, what kind of chickens do they have?), Can better go to Urth cafe, Jack & Jills or Jinky's for breakfast if you are in Santa Monica and want to stay in this hotel,"

"It was really good food, there was just nothing that particularly stood out to us. We went for my boyfriend's 21st Birthday and all of the waiters were pretty nice (however they did not sing). It's more of a casual bar place because it's attached to the Shutters hotel on the beach."

"We frequented Coast for the Sunday night movie special and we were pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was super romantic (bring a blanket with you to keep extra cozy on the outdoor patio), the lighting was really cute and the choice of film excellent (E.T was playing). The only reason I wouldn't give it the full score is that they started the film a bit too early (the sun wasn't down just yet) so it was difficult to see the screen for the first 30 min of the film. The waiters were a bit scarce in the beginning too and with the movie munchies menu being so delicious (excellent value for money too) I was pretty disappointed when my chocolate cake arrived and it was stale (I have eaten at Coast numerous times before and never had a bad bite."

"Outstanding "sitting" venue. Mediocre food for the price but no one goes to Coast for excellent food - it's for the views and ambiance of sitting steps from the Pacific Ocean."

"Service was very poor in the beginning. Then the manager ask how we were doing. We told him we were very dissatisfied with the service, especially since a friend of his told us what a great place it was. From then on we were treated like royalty. He comp'd desert, a round of drinks, and even drove us to our hotel in their lemo. The food was very good."

"The staff was great, they called to confirm and held our table even though we got stuck in traffic. Tough night as the hotel was full of young people in for nickelodeon awards, but they handled it well and we stilled enjoyed our evening, dang those were some cute kids! Shrimp cocktail was a tad iffy, tough and fishy, sauce was amazing and the calamari salad was super yummy - my companion had fish and chips, tender and flavorful, we would totally go back, the lounge had a great vibe and sexy dj, just have to choose a different weekend next time!"

"I like the view of the ocean and the food and service were great. A tad pricey -- I had a soup/sandwich combo (half a sandwich and small bowl of chowder, diet coke; she had a small plate and tap water) -- the bill came to $40 with tip. Parking is also a pain $7 valet WITH validation and little to no local street parking."

"The setting is perfect. What made the day excellent was our server. My gf's salad was doused with an unexpectedly tart dijon mustard dressing that wasn't described on the menu. He quickly replaced it with another salad with a different, and much better, dressing on the side. His graceful response was much appreciated!"

"Upon arrival at 5PM the hostess seemed unfamiliar with Open table. Regardless our party of six we was shown a lovely corner table by the window with a beautiful view of the beach and evening sunset. The cocktails and wine were all served perfectly. The Tuna Tartar appetizer was excellent. As was the chicken salad which I shared with my dinner guest. The portions are ample and definitely capable of being shared. The Flat Iron steak and sauteed spinach were cooked perfectly and tasted very good. Our food server was friendly. attentive, and very helpful. we were given plenty of time to enjoy our meal and still make the 8PM performance of a local show."

"The hostess could have done her job better. I gave her my name and instead of looking for it she read everyone's name and had me listen for my name and select it."

"I am always a fan of Shutters and Coast is the perfect spot for a beach-side dinner. The chips and guacamole are simply amazing. The salads are a bit on the smaller side so I always order a side as well to add to the salad. The new CoolHaus partnership is a great option for dessert lovers!"

"On the beachfront. Shutters. What more do you need? Attentive, professional staff. Food is fair for the price, but it's the location that drives folks to eat here."

"The worst experience I've had at a restaurant. The restaurant was completely empty and our food took an hour and fourty-five minutes to come to the table. The manager was extremely rude when we acknowledged the slow service. We received no remorse. I would absolutely not recommend this restaurant. The food was mediocre and the service was awful."

"Went for Dine LA. Had reservations at 7 and they stuck me and my wife in a corner table With a view of the wall. We asked for another table and we had to wait. There shouldnt be tables in certain places in the restaurant. Chicken was so-so. Clam and linguine was good. But I have to say the deserts were amazing. The butterscotch pudding was amazing."

"really mediocre food - we all had the dine LA menu - the beet salad was good, a little skimpy on the goat cheese. the rotisserie chicken was a big slab of bland bird, the shoestring potatoes were soggy and limp, the spinach was over garlicky. the only good thing was the butterscotch pudding. my friends had the ice cream sundae which they said was a blob of whipped cream on vanilla ice cream with a tiny bit of chocolate sauce and a few burnt nuts. the martinis had ice cubes in them! what a disappointment."

"Service was poor - drinks orders took two reminders and half an hour to come. Main courses - a burger ordered as well done came oozing blood; one main came with the wrong order, and then came out again with the same (cool) vegetables despite those vegfetables not being with the ordered meal. There were no apologies and staff attitude was poor. This completely spolied a Christmas evening meal for our family. Over priced and under-serviced."

"Really good food, great upscale casual cafe, wonderful ambience. However our waitress seemed aloof and preoccupied, lost her attention a number of times. I read other reviews about the service not being so great but our experience confirmed it. if you go worth spending a couple Minutes setting clear expectations with the wait staff."
