The city’s top-rated Italian restaurant for over thirty years, Il Mulino New York offers an unparalleled fine dining experience, with an emphasis on authentic preparations from the Abruzzo region of Italy, the highest quality technique and ingredients, and flawless service. Dishes first made famous here appear on our menus throughout the United States and Tokyo as “West 3rd Street New York City favorites.”
"My bride and I celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary with a fabulous rack of lamb and Paglia E Fieno Alla Papalina that I swear was homemade. We ended our meal with one of our favorite desserts: Mascarpone and fresh berries. To add to the quality of the food was the excellent service we received: attentive, friendly and impeccable.
"We will be back," I told the Captain, and I, we, meant it. A great meal; a wonderful memory."

"You'll feel like time has stopped when you enter the simpatico but homely dining room. Prices have more than kept up to date though (in fact they are 2020 prices). Some of the classic pastas are executed well, and the baked sea bass under salt was delicately and perfectly cooked. Sadly, the appetizers, breads, and side dishes are swimming with oil and garlic and literally left a bad taste in my mouth. Service is attentive and personable."

"The food is very good here, but seriously overpriced. The service is very friendly, but there is a distinct 'production line' feel about it. The wine list is small but contains many good wines. However, the list is insulting to diners, with more bottles over $1,000 than under $100, and very few choices under $150. Tables are poorly placed. My chair was bumped into regularly by the staff during my meal. I have not had this problem at restaurants with much greater crowding of tables. We are not going back, as there are so many other truly excellent, not overpriced Italian dining options in Manhattan providing a more satisfying experience overall."

"We had been told to go to this restaurant and so glad we did--it was fabulous! The service was absolutely the best from our brief drink at the small bar through our meal to the moment we left. The food was "over-the-top" good! We would (and already have) recommend this to everyone we know! LOVE the flowering branches at the bar and wooden wine crates dividing the bar from the restaurant. Love all the "tastes" of food as we sat down."

"Very expensive, good food but probably not worth the price. $28.00 for Fettucine Alfredo?? I've travelled a lot in Italy for business and this restaurant is NOT the way they are in Italy. Fun to try once."

"This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The overabundance of waiters should have tipped me off that this is nothing but a clip joint. I'll cut to the chase. One of the numerous waiters came and rattled off a list of "specials" The gimmick is that they don't tell you the prices so when the bill comes you have no recourse but to blame yourself for being. such a sucker. The prices are so inflated that even at 1/2 the price it would still be over priced. Even if the food were spectacular it would be expensive but the food is mediocre at best. I don't know how they stay in business but I can only guess that they cater to a tourist crowd that thinks that being taken to the cleaners is a "Real New York Experience.""

"Lots of good Italian in NYC - this one better a little better than the rest for hearty fare (not a foodie place). Service is what makes it great - white tie classy but very fun, top notch. Too expensive and pain to get reservations to be a regular place but special occasion it's good to go."

"This is my favorite restaurant in the city. The food is sensational and the environment is quintessential New York. Their little ritual of plunking delectable little antipasto items onto your plate the minute you sit down is both unique and delightful. Long live this gem!"

"We have been going to il Mulino for years and we always enjoy coming back with all the scenery happening there, even before the meal started your table is already full of food, and the list of specials is always so long you have a tough time remembering everything. True Italy in Greenwich Village"

"Il Mulino doesn't try to be anything except what it is, old school with exceptional food, and service. Granted I was there for lunch on a Monday, but I truly appreciate how welcome they make you feel. Not with words, but with action. Within a minute of sitting down we had water, a basket of bread, and a hunk of cheese. That was soon followed up with some delicious Italian meat, garlic bread, fried zuccini, and a chopped tomato and mussel dish.
My wife and I loved our meals, I had fresh pappardelle & sausage, she had halibut w/ broccili rabe.
One word of advice, you may want to ask how much the specials are. We ordered them and were surprised how much more they were vs. the menu."

"My second visit, took 3 people that have never been, all three felt it was one of the best dinners they have ever had! The amount of food before you even get your entree is incredible. Wine prices are high, but it is NYC....so all was phenomenal. The service and food both are amazing."

"This place is off the charts. The food is unbelievable which is topped by the service. The cost of eating here is not for the weak of heart, but the free appetizers they throw your way from the second you sit down, definitely helps to soften the blow. No need to get appetizers, unless they're scallops wrapped in bacon, which I had to get and were awesome. The main courses were fantastic, as well as the wine selections. We will undoubtedly come here again. If you have a special occasion coming up and you still have some time, make the reservation now, and you'll be happy you did. Enjoy!!!"

"Everything about the food is correct: totally outstanding. Service was professional but somewhat cold in presentation. No acknowledgement of it being my wife's birthday, although mentioned on arrival to maitre'd. No offer of grappa after meal."

"Amazing from start to finish. Everything we had- bread, cheese, meal, wine, and dessert were all amazing. Superb food and service. Price was maybe on the expensive side, but beyond worth it. Service was also perfect. This was truly one of the best meals I have ever eaten."

"Everything was great. BUT, the amount of food you'll end up eating here is so much that you'll be uncomfortable for the next 24 hours. They keep sending things to your table to eat before your dinner arrives - all good but TOO MUCH."

"The service was exceptional. They go over-the-top with amuse bouche and bread. Very traditional Italian dishes, excellent wine and VERY expensive. One scoop of orange sorbet was $30.00! It's a great dining experience for a special occasion, but prepare to spend."

"I had a lunch reservation but the place was packed and so they had to sit me at the bar. Service from the maitre d' was nice enough but the waitstaff was excellent. Food was excellent and plentiful. Would definitely go back."

"I enjoyed my salmon which they made rare as I requested. The flourless chocolate cake was wonderful! There was a lot of wait staff, probably too many. I thought they should have had a restaurant week wine that was reasonably priced to go with the restaurant week menu."

"Went for restaurant week lunch. Service, portions, and the food were all excellent. One of the better meals we've had in our lives. The veal was amazingly tender, not like what we get from the supermarket! Can't say enough good things about the original Il Mulino."

"Il Mulino is such a delight. It feels very comfortable and home-y in its atmosphere. It gives you the feeling that you could sit there all night. The food is fabulous the flavors, scents and freshness. You couldn't ask for anything more. Also the menu does a great job of telling you enough about the dishes taste to give you a complete idea of that each dish will be. The product you receive matches the description +1 in taste! I would recommend it to anyone."

"Il Mulino serves classic Italian food that is perfectly fine but nothing special. The cannelloni was bland. The gnocchi with bolognese had more flavor but was not anything to write home about. Honestly, I cook a lot of Italian food and can make better pasta at home."

"From start to finish it was a model of fine dining. The maitre d' seating us the serving of drinks the presentation of the day's specials the ordering of the meal with excellent guidance from our waiter to the serving of each course did I say the food was stellar to our delicious desserts washed down with quality coffee.
yes, we shall come again.

"I felt very rushed by the wait staff, which for me is a non-starter. Restaurant week entree menu was generous as were the portions (veal was good), but the caesar salad was somewhat less than average. I judge a restaurant by its attitude and offerings during Restaurant Week - I will NOT go back!"
