Since its very first review in 1981, when Joanne Kates of The Globe & Mail raved both about the food and the unstinting attention to detail, Scaramouche has gone from strength to strength for over twenty years - no small feat in a world obsessed with trends and novelty. The food reflects chef Keith Froggett’s belief that less is more; that the finest ingredients classically combined result in a purity that transcends fads and fusion. The service is unobtrusive and faultless yet furnished simply, without pretense. The restaurant’s longevity is a testimonial to the pursuit of quality and the gracious welcome one receives at Scaramouche. "The reservation system was easy to use. Free valet parking which was a + . Food was great. The view was decent but I thought the decor was just average. Service was excellent. The day I went, the place was so so warm.. uncomfortably warm! I would recommend this place for a special occasion as it is way to expensive for your average joe."

"There is doubt in my mind as to why Mr. Frogget's restaurant is consistently rated at the top of the Toronto fine dining scene - for decades! I took my 20 year old son and 16 year old daughter for a special occasion dinner, and everything was exquisite - the food, the service, the general professionalism of all of the staff ... my daughter had never been before, and I am afraid I have set the bar at its very highest for her future dining experiences!My son chose to take his girlfriend there for their anniversary, and whenever he manages to save up enough spending money again he is planning on taking her back there. And the coconut cream pie...there are no words..."

"The food, the ambience and the service have always been among the best for many years but not the last time I was there.
It is a busy place and the staff at times may not be so attentive. Also due to workload or some other reasons the waiting time for the food may be a bit longer than usual but I was surprised to see that the quality of food in this specific occasion was below the standard of a common and anonymous restaurant. Compromising on the quality of food that has been always exceptional is not a nice thing to do.
Hope that it was just one exception."

"Once a year we liked to splurge on fine dining. After much recommendation, we went to this restaurant. I had the halibut and my husband had a white fish (forgot what it was called). It was excellent. Pricey wine list. $14 for a 6 oz. glass of California Chardonnay but it was delicious nevertheless. We ordered one piece of coconut cream pie for dessert. We could not finish it. It was the BEST tasting pie I've ever eaten in my life! So rich and filling! Highly recommended. Expensive but a good place to try. Only negative is the atmosphere. Kind of dull and plain. Lacks ambiance and warmth."

"Very deceiving from the outside... It's in a residential pocket! Service s impeccable from the minute you walk in. Amazing menu. We did the bufalo mozzarella, the ham hick ravioli to start (amazing). Scallops and the venison for the main. Absolutely incredible in terms of taste, cut and quality! $150+ tip . Could use a renovation, as the decor is extremely dated, but it fits the clientele.
Very knowledgeable, energetic service staff! Waiter was amazing."

"First time here and had a very nice dinner meeting. The atmosphere, service was excellent. Good advice from the wait staff on menu selection. I had the specials of the day: Sicilian Eggplan soup, blackened sea bass and a carmelized pineapple dessert (don't know the name). Delicious.

"Without a doubt the best meal I have ever had. Kudos to the chef and staff. The four of us really enjoyed our evening. The salad I had was excellent with many layers of taste. The filet mignon was delicious. Probably not a sauve thing to do but I made the plate shine by dragging my bread to lick up all the tasty cheese and sauce. The coconut cream pie made me feel guilty it was so so good. Can I stop by sometime to pick up a pie only?"

"I was looking for a special place to celebrate our anniversary and googled Toronto's most romantic restaurants. Scaramouche was in the top ten. While most importantly, the food was beyond amazing, all other areas were somewhat lacking. We ultimately left feeling not upset, just underwhelmed. I found the lighting just a couple notches too bright to be considered romantic, and while initially ecstatic to receive a coveted window seat, it was so cold I spent the majority of my meal with my coat on. So perhaps maybe just better suited for a business dinner or friendly get together than a "romantic" night."

Couldn't figure out how to get our car back at the end of the night because the valet had gone home. Finally we went into the condo building and got our keys from the concierge at the front desk. "A special occasion was made so much more special. The absolute best meal from start to finish!! Without a doubt- the appetizers, bread that came with the appetizer, in-house mineral water, mains and desert - my partner and I both agree, were all to die for!! The best dining experience we have ever had!!

"Even though it is an uptown restaurant, it's location seemed very remote. It is almost hidden, not viewable from the street. The food was very good. The ambiance was very minimalistic. It looked a little drab. If you sit near the windows, you get a great view of the city. It is a little on the pricey side, but worth it."

"We've been coming to SCaramouche for decades and can always count on a wonderful meal and attentive, sensitive service. The wine list is very good and as we get older, we appreciate having a choice of excellent wines by the half bottle. Great pecan bread!"

"I went there for my 40th birthday. What a fantastic night! I gave 5 stars to everything except food. Overall food was well executed except for one dish (I had 6 courses tasting menu). The filet mignon was a bit disappointing. I had high hope because I love beef. The meat was very soft but lacked flavor and not juicy enough. However I still enjoyed the rest of my night with hubby!"

"My wife and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary with dinner at Scaramouche.
The restarant, has a great view of the city and the couples tables are placed well so that you can experience this view, making the evening more romantic.
The food was outstanding and full of flavour. Portions were also nice for both courses.
For what I would consider an upscale restarant, there were a couple things that surprised me. First the chairs while comfortable are outdated and do not suit the restaurant at all. Also the water glasses were very tacky for an upscale restaurant.
Also the restaurant is quite loud which takes away from the ambience of a romantic dinner.
If all I can comment about is the decor, the restaurant is doing well."
