"Usually one of my Chicago "go-to" restos....but on Tuesday night, May 14, this place was a mess. the music was blasting-- destroying any of the usual wonderful cafe ambience. The service was slooooooooooow and the place was empty. The waiter was unenthusiastic. My gorgeous, and I mean gorgeous piece of salmon was so oversalted than I was unable to eat more than a few bites...this has never happened to me, ever. And I eat salmon regularly. the kale salad was wonderful. The dessert was wonderful. And once someone turned down the music and we could converse and hear each other, the ambience was very nice.
Note to chef: pay attention to your food and staff at the cafe on Tuesdays...they're not as wonderful as they used to be."

"We loved Cafe Spiaggia for its food, atmosphere and energy. The pasta fungi was perfectly cooked as was the roasted salmon with artichokes and fennel. The tiramisu was also outstanding. The energy level is quite robust so don't go if you're looking for a quiet, romantic evening but if you want to be transported to Rome, here is the place. Service was outstanding as well as the gorgeous, rich marble laden interior. We'll be back for sure!"

"Everything was delicious! The restaurant was extremely accommodating and the food was fantastic. Despite being full, the noise level was low - a rare find. We had the primavera salad, mixed salad, ravioli,meatballs, and donuts! Yum!! The food is simple and prepared to perfection, with handmade pasta and delicate ingredients. We will definitely be back."

"Hostess misread our reservation and had us standing around for 15 minutes since she thought we had arrived 15 minutes early, when we had, in fact, arrived on time for our reservation. Waiter was pushy and repeatedly urged us to order a variety of additional dishes than we did not request. One appetizer, one main course per person and wine for everyone is more than sufficient; it wasn't Thanksgiving. Finally, we sat in the back room where the acoustics are terrible. Loudest dining experience that I've had in a long time. Not an enjoyable dining experience."

"Our server was fantastic, very knowledgeable about the menu and even accommodated two of our guests (1 being a vegetarian and 1 who wasn't) and they were sharing a meat sauce dish that he split so the vegetarian received the gnocci, but not the meat.
Food- Olive Garden's better. Spent $110.00 for 2 of us, we left unsatisfied and hungry. Food wasn't bad just nothing exceptional, if you want gnocci go to Little Italy, where its done right for half the price. I was surprised the ambiance was not as stuffy as I thought it would be and the little half booth tables are cute, so not worth the price. All 5 of us decided we'd never come back."

I had come from California for a business meeting,and this was the one restaurant I wanted to visit. "I took my wife here for her birthday and it was a great experience. A couple of days before they called to confirm and asked me if it was for a special occasion. I told them about the b-day, and when they brought the menu that had a happy birthday note for her on the menu itself. Cute touch. We had a window table which provided a great view of Michigan Avenue. Food was outstanding. Only minor complaint is that the waiter could have been better. When asked what he recommended he didn't really note anything other then to say its a "really solid menu." Could have used a little more help there. Otherwise, a great place."

"One of the best kept secrets in dining in Chicago! Food and service is awesome and the price point in perfect. We made an early reservation and brought our little girl. THe manager made sure to come over and tell us that we could get anything for her, we just had to ask. Usually we come here for lunch, but dinner is great too! Rick is a terrific waiter!"

"The gnocchi were light and tender. The wild boar ragu tasty, The butternut squash-filled pasta delicate in flavor, while substantial in texture. Our only (slight) disappointment was with the ribollita. The flavor was right on target, but the soup was thin and could not possibly have been re-boiled with day-old bread in the Tuscan fashion."

While the food is perfectly prepared and beautifully presented you won't leave hungry as in some gourmet restaurants. Portions are generous without being excessive. "We stumbled onto Cafe Spiaggia and it wildly exceeded out expect ions. The bartender turned us on to an unlisted drink, "aperol spritzer", which was super delicious. Equally as great was the la Spiaggia. Every food selection was terrific - the gnocchi, the scallops, and the to-die-for, unbelievable, octopus. We felt so privileged to have such a great dining experience."
