"We had dinner here before the ballet. The food was wonderful, the service exceptional. However, the desert portions were small and the coffee was horribly bitter and strong. it was served "French Press" style and that may account for its undrinkability. If you go, know that this is an expensive restaurant and that you should order tea rather than coffee."

Dinner menu - interesting, but side portions are inadequately small, Just one spoon of mashed potatoes is definitely not enough. Dessert menu - NOT IMPRESSIVE, too simple cakes, too small sizes, highly overpriced, not suitable for a special occasion."

"We have eaten at the Grand Tier restaurant at least a dozen or more times over the years. My wife and I have always enjoyed coupling the dinner with the program. The service is usually excellent, but an unfortunate service problem occurred the last time we were there, two days ago. While the waiter was very good for about the first one-half hour, he completely left us hang out to dry for the final hour, which was not correct. Also, YOU NEED TO TRAIN THE BUS BOYS TO BE GENTLE WHEN THEY BUS TABLES!!. I will also add that the food is only mediocre. You could do a lot to improve this and the menu hardly ever changes from one opera or ballet to the next. Needs work here!!!"

"Reserve in advance to get a table at the front of the dining room, or w a fountain view. Our server tried too hard to be his idea of formal, and was too cold and impersonal for my taste. Regardless, I will return. Quality, preparation, selection, and portion size was perfect for pre-performance dining. Location can not be beat."

"It is a pleasure to dine here before a performance: the service is attentive and welcoming from the minute of arrival, the food was delicious (exceptional soft shell crabs) and deserts were expedited so we could make the curtain. With only 20 minutes left before the ballet, we followed our server's recommendation to fit in desert since the intermission was even shorter than that time frame. The space is just beautiful, under the Chagall painting overlooking the fountain on the plaza. It is an expensive meal, but convenient especially on a rainy evening. The round banquettes are comfortable for a group of 6 and conducive to conversation."

"A delicious meal in a beautiful setting, you can actually speak to your dinner companion(s) and not have to compete with music or loud patrons. Yes, it can be had at the Grand Tier Restaurant at Lincoln Center. We had a wonderful server. I spilled part of my cocktail in the bread basket, and he immediately got us more bread. He was congenial and very attentive. It was one of the nicest dinners I've had in Manhattan in years.
A Cosmopolitan, chilled and delicious. The food was perfect - a salad of arugula, endive, feta, & grape tomatoes - cod that was sublime -the flavors bursting in my mouth.
A decadent piece of Devil's Food Cake to celebrate my entry into senior citizenship and espresso. What else is there?"

"We so love the civility of dining at the Grand Tier prior to the ballet! It is such a relaxing time, in a beautiful setting, excellent service and incredible food! "As always, my daughter and I attend the ABT Gala at the Met as part of our Mother's Day celebration together. This year, half of the Grand Tier was closed off for a Private Reception - sadly, the best part - however, having said that we still had a window table which I had requested. The screens that provided a privacy barrier for the reception were very unattractive to have to look at for the entire meal - just plain untreated wood! We're a little disappointed that there will not be a Prix Fixe this year on the menu, but that will not stop us from enjoying the delicious offerings. The Sommelier was particularly friendly and helpful, staying focused on all guests."

"The main reason to dine here is the restaurant's wonderfully convenient location (within the Metropolitan Opera House) for pre-opera dining. Some diners had a great view of Lincoln Center Plaza, but we were seated along a side wall without a view. Most tables had roses on them; ours did not. Service was excellent when the waiter was available, but he was busy with many tables so there were intervals between service. The food was good but pricey for the quality. It was an interesting experience to see what the restaurant inside the Met is like, but overall it was a bit disappointing."

"In a word, Fabulous.
The food, service and timing was simply amazing. Patrick, our server, was terrific, recommending courses and making our dinner great fun. The food and presentation was excellent. And, as promised, they had our dessert and coffee ready for us to walk in and enjoy for the second intermission of the opera.
The Grand Tier Restaurant makes the Met experience complete!"

"The Grand Tier is the perfect complement to a great night at the Met. The food is a solid B+ with an easy to order from menu that covers the basics of fish and fowl ( with a filet as well ) but the luxury of dining a three minute walk from your opera seats and enjoying dessert at intermission is A+. I plan to make this at least an annual event to either kick off or end my opera season !"

"We arrived 1.5 hours prior to the performance having made reservations via the web earlier in the day. We were seated immediately in a secluded part of the very-large seating area. The waiter was excellent and our food arrived promply. We ordered desert to be served at intermissiong and our table was waiting for us."

"Pricey but food quality, ambience, and service make this worth the visit. Good values can be found with quality lower-priced bottles of wine. Having a relaxing dinner under an enormous, colorful, original Chagall paiinting, with the vibe of Lincoln Center under your window makes this a special experience. Food choices were limited and expensive, but a six thirty reservation for an eight thirty opera gives you ample time to relax, share a bottle of good wine and enjoy the scene."

"The restaurant is located right in the opera building and the ambiance is amazing. My favorite part of the restaurant is the ability to order desert and coffee, which is served during the first intermission of the show. An amazing experience!
Unforutnatley, both times i have eaten at The Grand Tier, I have been dissapointed with the food. The menu is very expensive and the quality of the food does not match the prices. The first time I at there, i sent a steak back twice because is wasn't properly cooked. The second time, our food was fine, but nothing special.
Next time i go to the opera, i will go to the restaurant but probably stick to desert and drinks."

"From the moment we arrived, we received first class service. The food, table, service and wine were excellent The whole evening was very special, made even more memorable by the dining experience.
