"The location and decor make this a really good choice for date night. Right on Sunset, it's the perfect spot to launch a night out. The restaurant is very dark inside... a lot of stone decor, which is cool. You're greeted by the many sushi chefs as you are being seated. I think the tables are a little too close together, but that's just me. The seaweed and cucumber salad is delicious and a nice way to wake up your taste buds. We ordered the lychee flavored sake which is heaven on earth. You've gotta like it sweet though. The sushi is fresh, beautifully presented, and tasty. The waiter was very good about recommending dishes. It's a very busy restaurant and I think some of the wait staff was overwhelmed so don't be in a hurry. Recommended!"

"Katana never disappoints! It's one of my favorite restaurants. My husband and I go there for all our special occasions. This time it was my husband's birthday. We always let our server pick the menu for us which guarantees that always get to try something new and different and don't fall into the habit of having the same thing every time. All the servers there are wonderful and great at what they do."

"Katana is my favorite sushi place! Not only is the food good, the service makes everything even better :) From nice hostesses like Francesca to servers like Josh and managers like Eiji and Josh - Katana's got your party covered. I'm a creature of habit so I always order my regular dishes: hanabi with spicy tuna, suzuki (seabass skewers), maguro carpaccio, shiro maguro (seared albacore sashimi with crispy onions), and I found a new one I like - inakaya roll with light rice and add shrimp tempura :)"

"I come here often whenever I'm in town. The staff at Katana (cooks, servers, hostesses, and managers) really make this a stellar experience! From the minute you walk in and walk out, these people will make you feel like VIP :) Highly recommend the spicy tuna hanabi, sea bass skewers, any of the tuna carpaccio dishes (maguro with pesto and shiro maguro with crispy onions are delicious), also highly recommend grabbing a roll and the kitchen is very good about customizing it as needed (I always get light rice, so I can taste more fish AND eat more of course, and like to add shrimp tempura sometimes). Josh Hering is the bomb and is always my favorite server!!! :)"

"They didnt have my table when i arrive so i had to wait 30 min and they gave me a very bad table so they ofer me to wait more so they can give me a better table so i had to wait another 15 min and the table they gave me was not so good"

"Hostess out us next to a loud group. There were a lot of tables and could of sat us elsewhere. Server was slow...forgot about outer drinks. Sushi rolls ere small and other dishes sushi did not seem fresh. Server was more interested in describing the dishes than if we liked it. Then the server spilled the coffee and said " oh sorry should I bring you another one". Really? Not a great experience....over priced for fair sushi."

"Went to celebrate a friends bday dinner..EVERYONE was awesome and the manager Josh went out of his way to make us feel special. The night was indeed memorable and set the bar extremely high for other restaurants. "This restaurant is not for me. It's a pricey, pre-party place with a crowd to match. We had the "katana feast" which offered a tour of the chef's favorite menu selections and a sake sampler. With a few exceptions, the food was over-sauced, over-salted, and generally unremarkable. The sushi was pre-cut and had dried out on the outer surface.. The sake sampler came in a little tray accompanied by a laminated(!) card to explain the selections. This and the fact that the server had to refer to it when describing the selections was the icing on the cake. This place is cheesy and overpriced due to its massive overhead. Not a place for anyone who likes to go to a restaurant for the food, a good chef and a knowledgeable waitstaff."

"I really like the food at Katana and it is a gorgeous restaurant. However, when you want to spend an evening out at an expensive restaurant, I find it rude that they tell you that you only have your table for 1 hour and 15 minutes. I will probably not come back because of this. It is a turn and burn kind of place."

"The food was great, the atmosphere was great, even the server was great. The overall management of the restaurant leaves much to be desired. After waiting an hour past our reservation time, we are finally seated and then at 10pm, they drop the check and won't let us order any additional food because "the next reservation" is there. So basically, we were told too bad, you need to pay the check and leave. Regardless of how much we liked the place, we won't be going back."

"This place was truly a disappointment. They were not able to seat me. I left after waiting a half hour for a table. I made a reservation at 10:00 pm with opentable and they still were not able to seat me by 10:30. The hostesses kept suggesting I wait at the bar or sit at the sushi counter. This was not ideal because I wanted to have a relaxed late night dinner. I went to this restaurant years ago and enjoyed it but the service and the atmosphere has changed and it's become really ugly."

"We weren't particularly impressed with the food. Full disclosure, one of the members of our party doesn't eat fish so we didn't order as much sushi as we might have liked. The fact that I can't really recall anything that 'stood out' speaks for itself. The hanabi was decent but the portions were pretty small. The ambiance is good but we got kind of a crumby table near the kitchen (guessing this is because we reserved through open table as this seems to be a recurring trend). I'd go back for drinks on the balcony as the ambiance out there seemed great, but save your money and grab food somewhere else beforehand."

"The food was wonderful, our server and the manager were fabulous. The two hostesses were so rude, unwelcoming, and bratty that we almost left. But glad we stayed bc our server made up for it and the manager was very nice. Food came out quickly and sushi was very fresh and full of interesting flavors. As business people we just know that first impressions can be everything, the girls they had at the front need replaced."

"On my opinion, this restaurant, while good, is not outstanding. It is definitely overrated.
There is a Japanese restaurant on West Third Street, Izakaya on Third, which has a menu very similar to that of Katana's, which serves much better cuisine."

"Very cool,young and energetic crowd. A very good vibe when you walk in. The sushi and food are excellent and a great place to people watch. Service is attentive and very nice to make recomendations. This is one of my favorite sushi places and went there twice last week. Highly recomended"

"I took my date to Katana for Valetine's Day 2013. The hostess, Francesca, was incredibly sweet and accommodated our dining preferences. Our waiter was efficient, knowledgable, and genuinely nice. I definitely recommend Katana for all your dining adventures. It was amazing experience for both my date and I."

"Katana is one of my favorite places. We visited LA last week and went twice. The sushi and food are great combined with the atmoshpher and crowd make this a must. We shared the special Striped bass and it was awesome."

"Staying at the Mondrian across the street for our third year in a row during a weekend getaway, we decided to try Katana, as we heard it was fun and hip. I made dinner reservations for 5 on a Saturday night. We were pleasantly surprised at the setting, it was very hip and had great energy and ambiance. Our server was wonderful and recommended popular sushi items. Now for the food...WOW! Unbelievably good! The flavors were unique, layered and delicious!! We had a couple of foodies in the group and everyone was blown away at the amazing dinner we had. Will be back!"
